RE: Special Track "Smart cards and e-Government" within e-Smart 2004;
22-24 September 2004, Sophia Antipolis (near Cannes), France
e-Smart has been established as an annual Forum of the industry and
application
experts to present and discuss the state of Art, the challenges faced and
the
opportunities opening. More on the e-Smart line of events is given
on http://www.strategiestm.com/conferences/esmart/04/
In e-Smart 2004 a Special Track "Smart cards and eGovernment" is being
organised.
Relevant topics include: defining demands from the governmental area,
capabilities
of the smart card in administrative tasks, presentation of relevant
projects, and
concerns of usage particular to the administrative realm.
Authors are invited to submit until 22 April an abstract of one page
(including
title, author's name(s) and affiliation(s))to the Chair:
Prof. Dr. Roland Traunmüller
Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria
email: traunm(a)ifs.uni-linz.ac.at
-------------- Apologies for multiple postings --------------------
Dear Colleagues:
As you may recall during our meeting in Cape Town, you supported TC5 in
establishing the Special Interest Group on Bioinformatics. You also
directed me to send my presentation to you electronically for possible
dissemination of this information to your Working Groups. Some of you felt
there maybe some interest from WG members to join this Bioinformatics
effort.
The following attachments represent the Aims and Scopes, the Steering
Committee Members, as well as the current membership. Please review the
information and share with me and the Chairman, Prof. Hasan Jamil, any
comments you may have. If any of your WG members wish to join, I suggest
they contact the SIG Chairman, Prof. Jamil directly.
Regards,
Gustav J. Olling

Dear (almost) all.
"Almost all" since Ioannis has been banned from this list
just for this message!
Meeting 1/2004 is approaching and of course we will have a TC6 dinner
on Friday, May 14.
After the special tombola ceremony in Lisbon (Oct. 2002) the following
idea came to my mind:
We might give some small presents to our local host Ioannis
Stavrakakis. (At least I suppose that Ioannis will be the concrete host
since our still offical Greek TC6 delegate is invisible, inhearable
and in-email-able since the end of 1998).
My proposal is based on the following:
There is a German saying which reads "Eulen nach Athen tragen",
i.e. "carry owls to Athens" and which characterizes the most
superfluous actions. The British equivalent of this saying is
"carry coal to newcastle" (or to Coventry).
Now my suggestion is:
Wouldn't it be nice to bring owls to the TC6 dinner in Athens?
Owls of different species: as wodden toys, as pictures, as stuffed animals,
as book-end, as ... (I found already one version at a flea market
which is not mentioned in that list).
The only kinds of owls which would be not allowed are:
- living owls (which would probably create problems at the immigration
department of Athens airport)
- the Greek EURO coin which displays an owl at its back side
(since that would just be too easy; nevertheless it just how common
owls are in Athens).
Perhaps we could give a special premium to the owl which would
be selected as the most original one.
Thus: Have fun when doing the search for owls.
Best wishes
Otto

Dear all,
hereby I invite you to IFIP TC 6 meeting 2004/1 in Athens, Greece (May
14+15, 2004).
The meeting is held in conjunction with the TC6 conference Networking 2004
(also in Athens, May 9-13). Please check <http://www.ece.ntua.gr/
networking2004>
for details about the conference. We hope that many delegates will attend
both the
conference and the meeting.
The meeting will be held at the Old University building of the University
of Athens
in Plaka (Old Athens), below the Acropolis.
Its address is: Tholou 5, Plaka, Athens.
The meeting will probably start Friday morning at 9.30 a.m. and continue
until
6.30 p.m. or so.
We should try to finish Saturday at noon.
Friday evening we will have the traditional TC6 dinner.
Ioannis Stavrakakis <ioannis(a)di.uoa.gr> will provide information about
meeting logistics.
His first meesage dates march 11; please tellme whether you have received it.
Moreover, he will write a formal invitation letter.
If you need a paper/fax version of that letter or if you need special
arrangements
for your stay:
please contact Ioannis.
The preliminary agenda for the TC6 meeting will be sent by mid of April.
Please communicate agenda topics to me before that date.
Your participation at the meeting (and also at the conference) is very
important.
IFIP's rule is that a national delegate should automatically be expelled
if he/she has failed to participate in three consecutive meetings.
I look forward to seeing you in Greece. Please inform me (and Ioannis)
about your attendance; see below.
