Dear friends,
Many of you certainly remember Liane Tarouco. Recently I have received
the attached mail from her.
Is anybody of you interested in participating at the action she is
proposing? Does anybody of you know any group in your countries
interested in this action?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards
Ramon

Subject: [IFIP] Women & ICT
Dear All,
ITU tells us that women have expressed overwhelming support for the
importance of Information and Communication Technology (ICTs). A survey of
women from all regions of the world shows striking solidarity in the belief
that ICTs are critical to women for meeting their personal and professional
goals, in overcoming the inequality of the 'Digital Divide' and as
entrepreneurs The survey was released on World Telecommunication Day, which
commemorates the founding of the International Telecommunication Union in
1865.
Women make up 42% (on average) of all the Internet users globally, ranging
from less than 30% in Morocco, India and Turkey to more than 50% in Canada
and the United States. 99% of women surveyed in 6 geographic regions have
expressed the view that access to information and communication
technologies are important to women entrepreneurs. When asked if ICTs
helped them meet their professional goals, 97% have agreed that they
did. The information gathered from this survey will provide input for the
World Summit on the Information Society.
Detailed information and the complete survey is available at
http://www.itu.int/newsroom/press_releases/2002/13b.html
Greetings,
The Delivery Co.

"Men are simple things", said the first.
"That's true", agreed her companion. "They can survive a whole weekend with
only three things: beer, boxer shorts and batteries for the remote control".

Dear friends,
At present I can say, like the French king Louis XIV, the WG6.9 c'est
moi. At present I am the only formal member.
It is necessary to understand that this WG is not specialised in a
precise topic like the others but is oriented to any kind of techniques
oriented to the developing countries.
I would like to have other people in this WG in order to be able to
cover as many developing areas as possible. So I ask all of you to
participate in it or to propose other people interested in proposing
solution for developing countries for participating in this WG.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Best regards
Ramon

Dear friends,
As you know, the Latin America Networking Conference has been cancelled
due to the redced number of paper submitted and to the critical
economical and social situation of this country. However, as we decided
in Saariselka, the tutorials (3 or 4) are maintained. Several of you
have shown your interest on giving some tutorial. As the situation has
changed I ask you to confirm your interest in giving a 6 hours tutorial
some day between September 9 and 13 in Santa Fe (Argentina). Thank you
in any case for your help.
Also, we decided in Saariselka to give some help (as in the previous
years) to the CLEI conference to be held in Montevideo (Uruguay) between
November 25 and 29. Some of you have expressed also your interest but
now it is the moment of confirming the interest. In any case thak you
for your help.
Best regards
Ramon

Dear TC6 members,
As you know from our last meeting we are in the process of nominating a new

Subject: [IFIP] The Day of President Bauknecht
Project: The Day of the President
Dear All,
Paris. Autumn, 1997. The embassy car picked the IFIP President and the IFIP
Executive Director from their hotel and drove them close to pont "Alexandre
III". The two men entered the Bulgarian Embassy and the Ambassador [at the
time also Permanent Representative to UNESCO and member of UNESCO's
Governing Board] welcomed his visitors.
"Bauknecht", introduced himself the IFIP President.
"Aahh", responded the Ambassador. "Bauknecht weiss was Frauen wuenschen"
[P.N. - "Bauknecht" is a company for house appliances - fridges, washing
machines etc. and the famous advertisement to which the Ambassador alluded
translates: "Bauknecht knows what women wish"]. We smiled. It was a good
start.
We then discussed the forthcoming reclassification of IFIP with UNESCO and
requested the Ambassador's assistance for IFIP to get a favorable hearing.
In the following days and weeks we were contacting UNESCO officials and the
Ambassador did all he could to help. IFIP's reclassification was decided
favorably.
This is just a minor episode during Prof. Kurt Bauknecht's tenure as the
10th IFIP President, from 1995 to 1998.
Kurt's interview is now available at
http://www.ifip.or.at/secretariat/presidentday.htm [please click under his
photo]
Kurt remembers that visit to Paris. He recalls other important events
during his term and has interesting things to tell.
Enjoy,
The Delivery Co.
