Dear All,
Please feel free to circulate to interested colleagues:
1. The preliminary program of ICN01 (International Conference on
Networking) (see http://iutsun1.colmar.uha.fr/ICN01.html ) which will be
held at Colmar, France, from Monday July 9, 2001 to Friday July 13, 2001.
If you would like to Chair a session during ICN01, please contact
lorenz(a)ieee.org
2. The call for papers of ECUMN'02 (see
http://iutsun1.colmar.uha.fr/ECUMN02.html ) scheduled from April 8 to April
10, 2002. The deadline for this CfP is September 1, 2001.
Accept our sincere apologies if you receive multiple copies.
The appointment of an IFIP Working Group Chairman is formally made by
the Technical Committee. It is a pleasure to announce that TC6 ratified
the nomination of Raouf Boutaba as the new chairman of WG 6.6, the
former chairman's, Wolfgang Zimmer's maximum time-in-office, having
expired under IFIP rules.
This ratification took place after a search made by a committee of three
(Wolfgang Zimmer, Augusto Casaca and Harry Rudin) and a polling of the
members of WG 6.6.
We congratulate Raouf, thank to the WG 6.6 members for their active
support, and wish WG 6.6 continued success.
With best regards
Augusto Casaca,
Wolfgang Zimmer,
Harry Rudin

Call for Papers
2nd Workshop on Quality of Service in Distributed Object Systems
Workshop #2 at ECOOP 2001
http://www.dist-systems.bbn.com/confs/2001/QoSDOS/
Budapest Hungary: June 19, 2001 (Tuesday)
The workshop addresses the state of the art and the future of
Quality of Service management in distributed object systems.
The objective is to provide presentations and discussions
about the influence of QoS provision on the object model.
An additional focus is put on component-based systems and
the influence of QoS provision on the component specification and
proper mapping to the underlying distribution infrastructure.
Topics include, but are not restricted to
- Modeling QoS: suitability of object oriented modeling
techniques, influences of QoS provision on the object
model, e.g. type systems
- Specification: Use of containers to specify and enforce QoS
properties for a component.
- Structure: AOP, open implementations
design patterns, or contract aware components
- Implementation: Use of components for implementing ORBs
- Scope of QoS-integration: generic integration, multi-category
support, impact on architecture and underlying object-model
- Management: integration of QoS management and network and
application management
- Experiences: of QoS integration in OO-Middleware platforms
- Specialized QoS platforms vs. extending existing platforms
- Bind-time QoS integration: Naming, Trading, and Negotiation
of QoS in open distributed systems
- Accounting and Pricing of QoS
Submission Process:
A one to two page extended abstract describing your research is
required. The paper will be distributed to the other participants
and published on this website. The preferred format is
pdf or html. Participants should also be prepared to give a 15 minute
presentation on their research. To facilitate discussion, workshop
is limited to 15-20 people.

Dear TC6 members,
I forward you the message I received from Mr. Lim Chen Yam from the
Malaysia Computer Society, nominating a new representative for TC6.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Soo Hoe for his past
collaboration with TC6 and for having successfully organized Seacomm
events, in which many TC6 members participated.
Best regards
Augusto Casaca
Dear WG 6.6 members,
In addition to announcing the new chairman of WG 6.6, I would like to
extend sincere thanks to Wolfgang Zimmer for his efforts during
chairmanship of WG 6.6. This period has been an excellent period for WG
6.6. This was also evident in the many comments of appreciation and
thanks that WG 6.6 members expressed during the nomination process.
Best regards
Augusto Casaca
(Chairman TC6)
