******* CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION ********
The complexity of signalling, regulatory and metabolic processes taking
place within a cell have motivated a series of attempts at modelling
these processes to facilitate system description and help simulate or
analyze their dynamic behaviour. These attempts have spanned a large
spectrum of formalisms, from discrete to continuous, from systems of
deterministic or stochastic differential equations to process algebra,
Petri-nets, Boolean networks, logical formalisms, state-charts,
rewriting systems, constraint programming languages or hybrid automata.
Simultaneously, the view of cellular mechanisms as computational
processes has been gaining acceptance, not only for its relevance as a
metaphor, but also because of the added explanatory value of concepts
such as syntax vs semantics, abstraction, the relationship between a
specification and an implementation, and of the promised analytical
power of formal tools such as verification techniques or
model-checking.
As the field matures, it is becoming increasingly obvious that there is
probably no 'one-size fits all' formal language for molecular biology,
but rather several modelling paradigms, each with its strengths and
weaknesses relatively to specific analytical goals. Theoretical
arguments supporting one representation over others or actual
biological analyses conducted using a formal language and associated
formal methods are still lacking. Also, while a model of a biological
system should ideally have explanatory or predictive value, and could
have applications in understanding the causes of genetic diseases or
developing new drugs, most modelling attempts are still far from this
degree of maturity.
The CMSB (Computational Methods in Systems Biology) conference series
was established in 2003 to help catalyze the convergence between
modellers – theoretical computer scientists from fields such as
language design, concurrency theory or program verification, as well as
physicists and mathematicians, – and biologists interested in a
systems-level understanding of cellular processes.
Among the conference topics:
- Formal models for regulatory, signalling or metabolic networks
- Formal methods to analyse biomolecular systems
- Qualitative or quantitative analyses of biomolecular systems
- Theoretical comparisons between different formal models of cellular
processes
- Applications of formal techniques to reverse-engineering of
biological networks
- Detailed case-studies on how a biological question was successfully
addressed using formal models
- Definition and study of theoretical properties of
biologically-inspired formal languages

First International Workshop on Broadband
Wireless Multimedia: Algorithms, Architectures
and Applications (BroadWIM)
co-located with BroadNets 2004
Friday, October 29, 2004 San Jose, California, USA http://www.broadwim.org
CALL FOR PAPERS
The emergence and adoption of broadband wireless
access standards, such as 802.16, 802.16a and
802.11a, offers exciting new possibilities for
delivering rich multimedia content over the "last
mile". The workshop is intended to present and
discuss new architectures for delivering such
rich media over single-hop or mesh broadband
wireless architectures. It also focuses on the
algorithms and protocols needed to integrate the
application layer requirements, such as QoS,
security etc. with the base functionality offered
by the standardized 802.16/11 and other WLAN and
WWAN interfaces. Of particular interest are
practical case studies, demonstrations or pilots
of innovative techniques for delivering a variety
of multimedia content over such broadband local
or metropolitan wireless networks. Preliminary
results on interesting ideas and techniques are
more welcome than detailed analysis of existing
schemes.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
* System Prototypes and Experiences with Broadband Multimedia Delivery
* IP-based Multimedia Services over WLANs and WMANs
* Signaling for Converged Multimedia Applications
* QoS for Real-time Voice and Video in Broadband Wireless Networks

Dear all,
please find enclosed the preliminary attendance list for meeting 2004/1
in Athens.
If your name is not in the list (or if the information given is
not correct) then please give me a feedback as soon as possible:
Meeting documents are very heavy and I don't want to carry too many of them
to Greece. The dream of having the documents in electronic version only
appears to be still unrealistic since many parts of the documents (in
particular the papers from Council and General Assembly) don't
exist in electronic format.
Best regards
Otto
Dear WG chairs,
some of you asked whether a template would be available for
the reports. Here is one (see appendix) which is probably
due to Augusto. RThank you very much for that, Augusto.
It is not obligatory to use the template. But the document shows which
information should be given.
Best regards
Otto

Scope
^^^^^
The current shift of Internet communications towards differentiated
services enables and supports a huge variety of prosperous business
models. The resulting combination of support service issues with
technological and economic perspectives drives many relevant and
interesting research topics for application developers, business
architects, network providers, service providers, and customers.
Especially the identification of novel Internet charging solutions,
the investigation and evaluation of their technical feasibility,
and the consolidation of technical and economic mechanisms for
enabling a fast, guaranteed, and efficient charging of
communications services is of fundamental importance for the future
evolution of the Internet, and as such the central focus of the
international ICQT workshop series.
ICQT'04 is the fourth event in this series, following the highly
successful workshops ICQT'01 in Vienna (Austria), ICQT'02 in
Zurich (Switzerland) and ICQT'03 in Munich (Germany). The focus
of this year's workshop is on the economics of Internet services,
pricing for Quality-of-Service (QoS), and the required technology
in support of charging. Besides charging technology in terms of
monitoring, accounting, and security mechanisms, also pricing and
charging models for peer-to-peer applications, multicast, wireless,
and QoS services are of importance. Therefore, authors are invited
to submit work on issues related to, but not limited by, the
following list of topics:
o Network economics and economic models for the Internet
o Internet pricing, tariffing, and billing
o Internet charging technologies
o Monitoring, measuring, and accounting
o ISP cost and business models
o Charging for QoS, services, and content
o Pricing mobile and wireless services
o Application service provider models
o Security mechanisms for charging
o Management of Service Level Agreements
