Dear Otto,
I am sorry I cannot make it to this meeting either.
I attache a few comments on TC6 activites.
wishing you a successfull meeting for the glorious future of TC6.
Villy
Comments on TC6 activities:
Conferences:
* Conferences are becoming of less interest:
(Many specialized papers from Ph.D-students.
The number of Ph.D.-students are increasing
and in many countries it is equired that they
during the study have a minimum number of refereed
papers). many papers are of limited interest to
other people and so the number of participants is
closely related to the number of papers/authors.
* Customers.
Universities: are becoming much more business
oriented (innovation, patents,..)
Research: privatisation: Operators & companies send
far less people to conferences.
(Also sponsoring is much less than earlier)
* Proceedings published in few copies.
It is ridiculous to produce a book which is distributed
in 100-200 copies. There are so many conferences and a
person is only interested in 1-2 papers which he then
download from the Webi or from a CD.
By printing on your own printer you get the colours.
The pdf-fil includes hyperlinks on the screen.
* Competitors: How come that a monkey organisation as
WSEAS can make successful conferences, list a large
number of journals. (Every week I am invited to give
an invited paper ....)?
ICCC died, which organization is next?
* Do we still have an IFIP secretariat in Wien?
I have received (as far as I remember) no mails,
printed material or anything else during the last
2-3 years.
What is the benefit of an expensive secretariat?
(self-contained: organisation for the organisation?)
* TC6 mail-exploder: I get more and more mails (usually in
two copies or more) via the ifip-tc6 mail exploder.
I guess most of them are non-IFIP (but I only read
the ones I already know!).
Why do we offer same lvevl of service to non-IFIP
conferences as to IFIP conferences?
The list should be more restricted.
* The WG's could be more well-defined and focussed.
Two many new conferences instead of using existing
series.
* TC-members as Villy are too sloppy.

Dear all,
the IFIP treasurer (Dipak Khakhar, email see below) has presented
the TC budgets (see annex) and in particular the DCSC (developing country
support committee) funds for 2005.
*** If a TC6 conference wants to get a support from DCSC
then the organisor should send a request as soon as possible
to Dipak (deadline August 16) with a copy to me. ***
DCSC could be interesting for (at least) the following conferences in 2005:
Working Conference on Networking for Metropolitan Area Networks;
Working Conference on Electronic Government
WG 6.2 + 6.11;
March 28 - 31, 2005; Ho-Chi-Minh City (Vietnam);
Open Conference; 7th Conference on Mobile and Wireless Communications
Networks (MWCN'05)
WG6.2 + WG6.8 + IEEE
Fall, 2005; Marrakesh (Morocco);
Email contact: Hamid Aghvami
Best regards
Otto

>Please find the TCs budget in the attachment.
Please note that I have budgeted 20000 EUR for DCSC grants for year 2005
in IFIP budget.
I am looking forward to grant requests from you, if possible before 16 August
so that I can put approved grant in DCSC report.
Please note that the same condition as previous years applies to the grant.
That is to developing country which are full members of IFIP.

In today's mobile society, access to relevant information and to context-
specific services "anytime, anywhere" is becoming increasingly important.
Mobile users are often particularly interested in information about and
services in their immediate vicinity, thus Mobile Distributed Information
Systems must address location-dependent distribution of and access to
services and information from mobile devices. In addition to location,
other environmental aspects, such as the user's current situation, topology
and available bandwidth of wireless networks, battery power and
characteristics of mobile devices, are also relevant for determining
information and service requirements. For mobile applications, a dynamic
re-configurable architecture is thus required to support flexible reaction
to changing contexts and seamless operation in foreign environments, with
little or no need for manual reconfiguration. With mobile devices becoming
more and more popular and powerful, communication and cooperation between
mobile users in an ad-hoc manner are strongly desired. Consequently,
the long-established distinction between clients and servers is blurred,
which calls for an extension of the architectural paradigm towards peers
or alternating roles.
This Minitrack will address current topics in the field of
Mobile Distributed Information Systems, such as:
- Location and Situation Aware Information Services: Modeling,
Architectures and Applications
- Network Support for Mobile Access to Services and Information
- Mobile Ad-hoc Networking and Computing
- Provision, Distribution and Management of Services for Mobile
Environments
- Directory Services, Service Discovery and Service Brokers
- Middleware for Mobile Distributed Information Systems
- Distributed Databases and Data Management for Mobile Applications
- Peer-to-Peer Computing and Cooperation: Scenarios, Platforms and
Applications
- Self-/Zero-/Auto-Configuration, Dynamic Configuration for Mobile
Users
- Mobile Multimedia Systems, QoS for Mobile Information Access
- Management of Groups of Mobile Users
- Mobile Devices: GUIs, Usability and Adaptability
- Location Tracking Technologies
- Security, Privacy and Billing Issues for Mobile Information and
Service Access
- Applications and Case Studies of Mobile Distributed Information
