Dear Colleagues:
In preparation for our meeting in Korea I had an action item to review the
proposed title change for TC 5 and revisit this subject again in Korea
for closure.
TC 5 had long deliberations on this subject and we believe that the
title INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION best fits as a descriptor for
our new AIMS and SCOPE, which have been unanimously approved at our last
meeting. So, that indeed is our first choice.
If, some of you have passionate objection, then we could live with the
title COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY APPLICATION.
Would you please think about this proposal so that we can put closure to
this subject.

Dear all,
a question concerning LNCS publication was directed by Guy Leduc
(thank you very much, Guy, for that) to Alfred Hofmann from Springer.
Even if this quzestion was only for WG 6.1 I think that it is valid
also for all other WG's and for TC6 as a whole.
Best regards

Dear Guy Leduc:
Thank you very much for your mail regarding publication of the proceedings
resulting from IFIP WG 6.1 conferences/workshops in LNCS, now under the
IFIP-LNCS clauses of the IFIP-Springer contract.
I am well aware of your role for IFIP WG 6.1 and of your scientific work
generally; indeed, I had been knocking at your office door when I visitied
Andre Danthine at Liege (now quite some time ago). Your analysis of what out
of the WG 6.1 activities had been published so far in LNCS is accurate and
in accordance with my understanding. I also would take this opportunity to
express my thanks to IFIP WG 6.1 and you personally for publishing in LNCS
at time when this still was not officially agreed upon.
As to your question about the status of the six 2005 events listed in your
mail regarding publication in LNCS, I do not see any problem: some/most of
these six meetings are accepted (at least in principle), and given the
previous publication record of these meeting in LNCS, evaluation of the
inquires in discussion with the LNCS series editors is rather a matter of
formality. So, please take it from this message that all six meeting can and
will be published in LNCS also in 2005. There is other new inquireis
refering to the IFIP Springer/LNCS Agreement which do casue more problems
(due to the less technical orientation of some of them).
Below, I attach the general terms for IFIP-LNCS publication. Roughly
speaking, compared to standard (non-IFIP) LNCS, a list price mark-up of
around 30 % is applied in order to compensate for the publication fee we
have to pay IFIP for these proceedings. Regarding complimentary copies and
discsounts for buying conference copies the same terms are applied like for
standard LNCS; no mimimum underwriting guarantee is imposed to
workshop/conference organizers for buying a certain number of their books,
small workshops in principle can do with the 50 free copies alone.
If you have further questions I would be happy to talk to you on the phone;
I am sure we will have an opportunity to meet in person at some conference
(somewhere/somewhen).
I look forward to cooperating with you and the organizers of IFIP WG 6.1
events for publication of these proceedings in LNCS.
Best regards,
Alfred

As to the financial side, no royalties are paid for editing LNCS
Proceedings, however a standard number of 50 free copies of the book are
given to the editor(s). Additional copies needed for distribution at the
meeting or to contributing authors etc. can be bought at a discount of (at
least) 45 % off the list price; this discount is increased to 47.5 % or 50
%, etc. if at least 100 copies or at least 200 copies, etc. are bought
(respectively). For proceedings with more than some 750 pages, the
aforementioned discounts can be (slightly) improved as well as the number of
free copies.
The list price of an IFIP-LNCS Proceedings essentially depends on the number
of pages needed, as shown in the 2004 IFIP-LNCS Proceedings Price List
below. Please note that, besides the cost for the books also the
transportation cost has to be covered. Please note that, besides the costs
for the books, the transportation costs also have to be covered and that
there might be a slight price increase for 2005.

Betreff: IFIP publications in LNCS
Dear Mr. Hofmann,
I've been the chairman of IFIP WG6.1 since April 1998.
Our Working Group has been the sponsor (or sometimes co-sponsor) of several
conferences and the following proceedings have already been published in
LNCS:
Middleware (IFIP is main sponsor, ACM and USENIX are co-sponsor)
Middleware 5 Lake District UK 1998
Middleware 6 New York USA 2000
Middleware 7 Heidelberg Germany 2001
Middleware 8 Rio de Janeiro Brazil 2003
Middleware 9 Toronto Canada 2004
IWQoS (IFIP is co-sponsor with IEEE Communication Society)
IWQOS 9 Karlsruhe Germany 2001
IWQOS 11 Monterey, CA USA 2003
FORTE (IFIP is full sponsor)
FORTE 22 Houston (Texas) USA 2002
FORTE 23 Berlin Germany 2003
FORTE 24 Madrid Spain 2004
TESTCOM (IFIP is full sponsor)
Testcom 15 Sophia Antipolis France 2003
Testcom 16 Oxford UK 2004
FMOODS (IFIP is full sponsor)
FMOODS 6 Paris France 2003
DAIS (IFIP is full sponsor)
DAIS 4 Paris France 2003
As WG chair I always advised our conference organizers to publish the
proceedings in LNCS (despite the fact that the IFIP official publisher was
KAP).
Now, the new contract between IFIP and Springer Science + Business Media,
and in particular its article 38, specifies explicitely that IFIP
proceedings can be published in IFIP LNCS, and I am strongly in favour of
this.
For 2005 you've probably been already sollicited by several organisers of
our events. Otherwise, I'd like to inform you that we would like to publish
the following proceedings in IFIP LNCS:
Middleware 10 Grenoble France 2005
FORTE 25 Taipei Taiwan 2005
Testcom 17 Montreal Canada 2005
FMOODS 7 Athens Greece 2005
DAIS 5 Athens Greece 2005
IWQOS 13 Passau Germany 2005
Could you let me know if you agree?
Note in particular that IWQOS has been mostly published by IEEE (the
co-sponsor) so far, but some organizers sometimes prefer LNCS. In 2005, they
are contemplating the possiblity to publish in LNCS again, and I would like
to confirm that this is indeed possible.
In particular, I would appreciate receiving the data concerning the bulk
price of LNCS volumes for organizers.
I'm looking forward to reading you.

IEEE International Conference on
Distributed Computing in Sensor Systems
June 30 - July 1, 2005
Marina del Rey, California, USA
=========================================
The 2005 International Conference on Distributed Computing in Sensor Systems
(DCOSS '05) will take place in Marina del Rey during June 30 - July 1, 2005.
DCOSS is motivated by the successful ALGOSENSORS '04 (Algorithmic aspects of
wireless sensor networks) workshop, which was co-located with ICALP and
LICS
in Finland on 16 July, 2004. While the scope of ALGOSENSORS was focused on
algorithms for wireless sensor networks, DCOSS '05 is intended to cover
several aspects of distributed computing in sensor systems such as
high level abstractions, computational models, systematic design
methodologies, algorithms, analysis and applications. The conference will
provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to present their
contributions related to the above high-level aspects of distributed sensor
systems. In addition to contributed papers, the meeting will also include
keynote addresses by leading researchers, a panel discussion, and a
poster/presentation session.
Located in Marina del Rey, a beach side community that is the home of the
world's largest man-made harbor, the meeting venue can be easily reached
from the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Most of the world famous
attractions of the greater Los Angeles area - including the Santa Monica
mountains, the Getty Center, Hollywood, Venice Beach, Disneyland, and
Universal Studios can be easily reached from the Marina.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
==============================
CALL FOR PAPERS
Distributed sensor systems have become a highly active research area due
to their potential for providing diverse new capabilities. Such systems
allow intelligent dense monitoring of physical environments, which makes
them immensely useful for data collection and analysis. While much
ongoing research has addressed networking, communication and low-level
self-configuration issues in such systems, there are also significant
challenges pertaining to systematic design, algorithm development and
analysis, and abstract modeling in order to achieve efficient and robust
realizations of large-scale distributed sensor systems. The large number
of sensor devices involved, severe power, computational and memory
limitations, resource heterogeneity, dense deployment and frequent
failures pose novel challenges to design, algorithms, analysis and
implementation.
The focus of the conference is on distributed computing issues in
large-scale networked sensor systems (including algorithms, applications,
and systematic design techniques and tools), but networking-related
contributions that support high level abstractions are also welcome.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Computation and programming models
- Energy models, minimization, awareness
- Distributed algorithms for collaborative information processing
- Theoretical performance analysis: complexity, correctness,
scalability, fault-tolerance
- Abstractions for modular design
- Languages, operating systems
- Task allocation, reprogramming and reconfiguration

ANNOUNCEMENT and CALL FOR PAPERS
DAIS 2005
5th IFIP WG 6.1
International Conference on
Distributed Applications and Interoperable Systems
Athens, Greece
June 15-17, 2005
http://www.di.uoa.gr/dais-fmoods-2005/
To be held in conjunction with FMOODS2005
(Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems)
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The emergence of 4th generation communication systems, the evolution of
the Internet technologies, the convergence of the telecom and datacom,
wireless and fixed communication systems and applications pave the path
for ubiquitous service and application provision. Innovative solutions
are required for the development, implementation and operation of
distributed applications in complex IT environments full of diversity
and heterogeneity. Today, systematic application development support is
lacking for the emerging wide spectrum of distributed systems ranging
from ambient intelligence to global computing scenarios. Following the
evolution of the field, DAIS'05 will focus on models, technologies and
platforms for interoperable, scalable and adaptable distributed
applications within all kinds of computing environments.
DAIS'05 is the fifth event in a series of successful international
conferences, which started in 1997. DAIS'05 will provide a forum for
researchers, application and platform service vendors and users, to
review, discuss and learn about new approaches, concepts and
experiences in the fields of distributed computing. DAIS'05 will
include talks by invited speakers, full technical paper sessions, and
work-in-progress presentations.
CONFERENCE THEMES
In keeping with the focus on models, technologies and platforms for
interoperable, scalable and adaptable distributed applications, and in
addition to its traditional themes, DAIS'05 especially encourages
original unpublished papers addressing the following topics:
- software architectures and frameworks for application reconfiguration
and adaptation,
- component frameworks (e.g. CORBA Components, EJB,.NET),
- autonomous systems and architectures,
- modelling, specifying, monitoring and management of context-aware and
adaptive applications,
- support for self-organisation and autonomic behaviour in distribution
platforms,
- application infrastructures for Service-oriented Architectures and
Web Services,
- application environments for specific technologies (e.g. GRID
computing, mobile and wireless),
- issues in enterprise-wide and large-scale application integration,
model-driven development and testing,
- application management and tuning,
- development methodologies for ambient intelligence and
sensor net applications,
- semantic interoperability and semantic web services.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
DAIS'2005 seeks submissions for:
- Full technical papers in no more than 12 pages (about 6000 words);
- Work-in-progress papers, describing on-going work and interim
results in no more than 5 pages.
All papers must be original, unpublished, and not submitted simulta-
neously for publication elsewhere. They will be refereed by the Pro-
gram Committee. Accepted full papers will be published by Springer in
the LNCS series. Submission format: PDF using the Springer LNCS style.

Dear Otto and all the TC6,
Otto, thank you very much for your encouraging words and by your own
commitment.
Like you I expect the support of all the TC6 members that promised some
kind of help in Bangkok and the positive critiques of those that think,
for different reasons, that I have taken the wrong decision.
I am intending the create the IPC in which there will be the TPC chairs of
all the conferences that will run in parallel in Santiago. So, as soon as
you can, indicate the names of these persons.
Best regards
Ramon
> Dear all,
>
> as you have already heard by himself, Ramon has finally accepted

> This was a very difficult decision for him but we knew (at least some of
us
