Dear Otto and all the TC6, Otto, thank you very much for your encouraging words and by your own commitment. Like you I expect the support of all the TC6 members that promised some kind of help in Bangkok and the positive critiques of those that think, for different reasons, that I have taken the wrong decision. I am intending the create the IPC in which there will be the TPC
chairs of
all the conferences that will run in parallel in Santiago. So, as soon
as
you can, indicate the names of these persons. Best regards Ramon
Dear all,
as you have already heard by himself, Ramon has finally accepted to serve as IPC chair for WCC 2006 in Santiago de Chile. This was a very difficult decision for him but we knew (at least some
of
us
knew) that he was extremely interested in this "burden" since his heart beats first in Spain but secondly and not less strongly in Latin America. The topic was thoroughly discussed in Bangkok and TC6 promised to
arrange
events for Santiago:
- tutorials
- conferences (Netcon, MWCN,...)
- LANC 2006
- and, last but not least, meeting 2006/2.
Now we will have to satisfy these promises. I'll do my very best for
that
and I hope that also the critical voices will contribute to a success. Of course it will be allowed to give hints to the Chilean organisors in order to present a realistic budget, hold the conference in decent university rooms which may be available for free (instead as in schickimicki and
awfully
expensive conference centers). By doing so it can be almost guaranteed that the conference cannot run into a deficit from a financial point of view.
Please support Ramon in the preparation of WCC 2006. I believe that
this
can be a very good story also for TC6.
Please find enclose the message of Klaus Brunnstein to the TC chairs where he announces the positive devision of Ramon.
Best regards Otto Spaniol
Message from Klaus Brunnstein:
Dear TC chairs,
it is my pleasure and privilege to inform you that Prof. Ramon
Puigjaner
of University of Mallorca (more exactly: Universitat de les Illes Balears) has accepted my invitation to act as IPC chair for IFIP World Computer Congress 2006 in Santiago de Chile. Ramon has excellent contacts to South and Middle (aka Latin) America where he organized several events and has been an invited speaker at several CLEI conference. He has worked very actively in IFIP for long years, both in major events such as WCC-1992 in Madrid (where he was a member of IPC) as in TC-6 and its WGs. Ramon is the Spanish representative in IFIP General Assembly and he serves as TC-6 vice chair.
Here are Ramon´s contact data: Prof. Dr. Ramon Puigjaner Universitat de les Illes Balears Departament de Ciencies Matematiques i Informatica 07122 PALMA (Spain) Phone: +34-971173288 Fax: +34-971173003 e-mail: putxi@uib.es
At this time, I wish to thank Prof. van Solms who despite his health problems worked hard in preparing IPC work and esp. in convincing several TCs to actively contribute to this event. Our best wishes to Basie for soon and complete recovery.
Following Basie´s engagement, I am glad to notify that the following TCs have agreed to organise some event within IFIP WCC-2006:
TC-2, TC3, TC-6, TC-8, TC-11, TC-12 and TC13.
There are good chances that TC-10 will hold its 30-year anniversary conference within WCC-2006, and we also hope that TC-1 will join. At this time, TCs 5, 7 and 9 as well as SG-14 have not reacted positively and are likely to be missing.
Concerning procedure of forming IPC, may I suggest that TC chairs inform Ramon about a member representing their TC in IPC. Ramon (as IPC chair) and Mauricio (as OC chair) intend to distribute a first Call for Paper early 2005, so soon information would be welcomed.
My best wishes for a active support of TCs to make IFIPs first World Computer Congress in Latin America a success. Klaus Brunnstein (November 29, 2004)
