I see a valuable ressource for this "smartlist" group: membership configuration is available on a website.
(*sigh*) This "'smartlist' group" (actually the smartlist mailing list) is NOT run on smartlist. Smartlist does not have capabilities out-of-the-box to permit "disable mail" (receive suspension), "receive digests" (smartlist deals with digests as seperate lists), or "receive copies of their own posts" (there is no way for a subscriber NOT to receive copies of their own posts). There are various add-ons around, and of course you're welcomed to write your own additions.
Yes, I find it ironic that the smartlist mailing list is not operated by smartlist, but it was changed so long ago that I've gotten used to it. For those who must depend on web pages to administer a mailing list or their own subscriptions, smartlist isn't likely the best solution. For those who use email or shells to handle their mailing lists, and who want to fine-tune their list every which way to Sunday without having to launch bloated intepretive systems (python, perl) every time a mail comes in, smartlist is the lean, mean, listing machine.
