All, I am trying to use rc.local.s10.mhonarc from http://www.ha-schneider.de/software/smartlist/ to set up an archive for a mailing list. I have renamed rc.local.s10.mhonarc to rc.local.s30 and added following line to rc.custom RC_LOCAL_SUBMIT_30 = rc.local.s30 rc.local.s10 and rc.local.s20 are already in use and since I do not know how to merge the recipe in rc.local.s10.mhonarc with either of the two, I renamed it to rc.local.s30 and added a new line in rc.custom. Could someone please help me understand as to how it all works. Thanks Nishi

modify the subscribe/unsubscribe-mail

hi! how can i modyfiy the text for the automatic subscribe/unsubscribe-mail? The possibilities of a *subscribe.txt*-file in my folder are not enough for me. But you're right, it's been _years_ since he's been around. However, the list belongs to the maintainer (or at least the machine's admin), not the members. You'll get no argument from me that the list should be moved (I believe I said exactly that a couple of times), but to suggest the admins need to take a poll to ask what they may or may not do with the existing list is silly, to say the least. They are certainly able to move this list to mailman without the list subscriber's permission - indeed, they _have_ done so, which makes my point for me. Whether we should move this list to a SmartList server is a completely seperate issue...one which Philip should probably weigh in on, since he is now maintaining the procmail/SmartList source and as such the de facto head of our band of merry wanderers... arch_retrieve modifications?

Folks; Ok, I'll admit it. I can shell script, but arch_retrieve has me crossing my eyes and praying for salvation. While I struggle to chart and understand the complete flow of the script, I'm curious to know if anyone here has made modifications to it (not extensions through the retrieve.local mech) they are willing to share as learning tools. A few things that come to mind (in no particular order) are: 1) Ignoring maxfiles; having a guy set maxfiles to 0 and then requesting a few hundred files is probably not a good thing. 2) Disabling body commands, and limiting to a single subject command. (Ok, this is a little silly, but might be useful for underpowered servers.) 3) Limiting ls/get on a per-directory basis. The latest/ directory in an interactive list contains the archives...but for a digested list it contains the parts for the _next_ issue, and I'm not sure it's a great idea to allow subscribers to arbitrarily pull latest/digest.body. (A great reuse of an existing directory that, in retrospect, was probably _not_ the way to go - I'd argue the digest build should be outside the archive tree. But that's an issue for the digest shell script instead, so nevermind.) 4) Dropping searches. Again, a little silly, but I could imagine some situations where I'd want to restrict or remove searches. I'm certain there are other possible modifications I haven't thought about that someone might have found useful; I'd think almost anything would be helpful in learning how to alter the behavior of arch_retrieve. install smartlist on OS X
