hi! how can i modyfiy the text for the automatic subscribe/unsubscribe-mail? The possibilities of a *subscribe.txt*-file in my folder are not enough for me. Archives?

But you're right, it's been _years_ since he's been around. However, the list belongs to the maintainer (or at least the machine's admin), not the members. You'll get no argument from me that the list should be moved (I believe I said exactly that a couple of times), but to suggest the admins need to take a poll to ask what they may or may not do with the existing list is silly, to say the least. They are certainly able to move this list to mailman without the list subscriber's permission - indeed, they _have_ done so, which makes my point for me. Whether we should move this list to a SmartList server is a completely seperate issue...one which Philip should probably weigh in on, since he is now maintaining the procmail/SmartList source and as such the de facto head of our band of merry wanderers... blocking a reply

Greetings, Is it possible to block the reply of certain individuals from being distributed to a mailing list? Their accounts have been removed and it is only possible for certain people to post to the list. However, neither one of these options eliminates the possibility of these unwanted individuals from responding. Thanks in advance. Tom O'Rourke

html attachments

I want to remove html attachments from postings but the links in the FAQ don't work and seems to be quite old. Could someone give me a working solution for the removal of this garbage? Werner

fixed my own problem

here's how to block attachments: go into rc.init and uncomment the line that points to rc.local.s00 go to http://www.hardlink.net/Support/Smartlist/contrib/reject_garbage.txt create the rc.local.s00 file using the script on the above web page copy and paste the two scripts (rejectmsg / rejectquote) into two text files (don't forget to edit the e-mail addresses) upload everything to your smartlist directory So far, it appears to be working, but I'm continuing to test. blocking attachments

I'm having problems with folks in China sending virus attachments to a couple of my mailing lists. Is there a way to block attachments from being accepted? I've looked in the FAQ but the two links to additional information are broken. Thanks in advance, Irwin

two questions

1. Does anyone know if it is possible to block all archive retrievals of a list? 2. Is it possible to stop all automatic unsubscription for bounces?...I recently have had a few addresses removed by the server but I dont have automatic removal unchecked in rc.custom, I presume that there are cases which overide the rc.custom settings..... correct? regards David

Remote admin. NO WEB?

Hi I am administrator of a few lists were all members are direct subscribed or unsubscribed by me, mostly it is to one way alpha pagers were they get notification, I use a T900 2-way pager to send messages to the list, I would like to use the 2-way pager for administration of the list like to subscribe and unsubscribe, i did not see in the manual I downloaded from list.org any details on how to do that, sorry if I didn't see previous post on this issue

Deleting Undeliverable Messages

We have a one-way newsletter-type list. One thing we hate is that when we send out the newsletter, all the undeliverable messages get routed to the list maintainer even though the list is smart enough to determine it is a bounce and remove the bad e-mail address off the list. Is there anyway to have the list not forward the undeliverable messages? On that same note, we can't seem to configure it so the recipient can just reply to the newsletter with the subject 'unsubscribe' because the list sees that it is a reply and just passes the message to the maintainer since they don't have permission to post to the list. What code do we need to delete from which file to allow the list to go ahead and try to process the message. Will it still process if if unsubscribe is the subject of the reply, but the original message is quoted in the body? Jeff Crist "You can't steal second base and keep one foot on first."
