7th IEEE International Symposium on Cluster Computing and the Grid
14-17 May 2007, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
http://ccgrid07.lncc.br
Call for Papers
Scope
CCGrid 2007 is the seventh in a series of successful international symposia and
for the first time will take place in South America - in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil. Grid Computing started as a generalization of Cluster Computing,
promising to deliver unprecedent levels of parallelism to high-performance
applications by crossing administrative boundaries. Subsequently, this vision
evolved to support on-demand access and composition of any computational
service, provided by multiple independent sources. Under this new vision,
Clusters gained renewed importance as the "super-servers" of the emerging Grid
infrastructure. Meanwhile, the use of computational and data resources in
high-performance applications, undertaken over Grid infrastructure, have
started to now become a reality.
Today we face the huge challenge of making on-demand access to any
computational service, the "computing as service" vision, a wide-spread
reality. The CCGrid Symposium has been part of this journey, bringing together
researchers and practitioners and enabling them to share their insight,
results, and experience in the multifaceted areas of Grid and Cluster
computing. Selected papers will be invited to a Special Issue of Concurrency
and Computation: Practice and Experience.
Topics
The areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
Grid Architectures and Systems
Middleware for Clusters and Grids
Grid Architectures and Systems
Middleware for Clusters and Grids
Resource Management
Peer-to-Peer Systems
Grid Trust and Security
Community networks
Scheduling and Load Balancing
Parallel and Wide-Area File Systems
Grid Economies and Service Architectures
Grid Economies and Service Architectures
Utility Computing Models for Clusters and Grids
Programming Models, Tools, and Environments
Performance Evaluation and Modeling
Grid-based Problem Solving Environments
Service Composition and Orchestration
Community and collaborative computing networks
Scientific, Engineering, and Commercial Applications
Support for Self-Managing/Self-Configuring Grid Infrastructure
Authors are invited to submit original papers of 8 pages maximum. Papers should
be double column text, using single spaced 10 point size type on
Letter(8.5"x11"), and follow the IEEE manuscript guidelines.
Submission is on-line only at the symposium web site or directly at the JEMS
site. File format must be PDF. Proceedings will be published by the IEEE
Computer Society. Electronic only submission at
https://submissoes.sbc.org.br/ccgrid2007 Submission implies the willingness of
at least one of the authors to register and present the paper.
Workshops, Tutorials, and Posters
Workshop proposals should be 4 pages maximum. Tutorials are 4-four pages long
and require a 5th-page description including the presenters' vita and contents
to be presented. Poster submission should be 2 pages maximum. Submission is
on-line only at the symposium web site or directly at the
submission site. File format must be PDF. These rules should actually be asked
to the appropriate chair.

Dear TC6 member
Please find attached the pdf documents from Otto Spaniol and from Guy Leduc
supporting their candidaciy to chair the TC6 for the next three years from
2007 to 2009.
TC6 national delegates of official members of IFIP and WG6.x Chairs are
invited to vote.
Remember that an official representative being also chair or co-chair of
a WG will express his vote as official representative, leaving to the
remaining co-chair(s) if any to cast their vote for the WG (Maximum one
vote per WG will accounted if several co-chairs express their vote).
The list of persons eligible to vote is also attached to this email. This
list is based on the last IFIP TC6 List distributed on October 2006.
The last attached document is the " Ballot for TC6 Chairman"
Prepare an email to
- Brigitte.Brauneis(a)ifip.org
and
- Peter.Radford(a)logicacmg.com
with "TC6 chair election" in the subject line.
These two persons will check them, count them, exchange their results,
resolve discrepancy if any and announce the results of the vote in the
first days of December.
Fill the "Voting Ballot for TC6 Chairman" and attach it to the email.
The voting period will be closed on November 26 at 17H00 GMT but do not
wait to the last minute to participate in this important event of the live
of TC6.
Best regards,
Andre Danthine
TC6 honorary member
Dear all,
there was a little uncertainty concerning the dates of meeting 2007/2
and the preceding conference.
My proposal together with Kiril Boyanov is as follows:
-----------------------------
Conference; BCI 2007: Balkan Conference in Informatics
TC6 + BAS (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences);
26-28 September, 2007; Sofia, Bulgaria
Contact: Kiril Boyanov boyanov(a)acad.bg
URL: http://bci2007.uni-sofia.bg
Meeting; 2007/2; TC-6;
28+29 Sept, 2007; Borovez, Bulgaria
-----------------------------
Thus the meeting would be Fri+Sat including a one day overlap
with the preceding conference, but this overlap is not serious.
Talks by TC6 delegates would be arranged for Wed+Thu.
The meeting location (Borovez) is a very beautiful small typical
Bulgarian town. Transport from and to Sofia or from Sofia airport
is a little more than one hour and wil be arranged by buses and by cars.
We would have a possibility of organising the meeting also on Sat+Sun
if the majority of delegates prefers that scheduling. However, my feeling is
that Fri+Sat (as proposed) is better. Please comment on this.
There would be also a possibility of a joint bus excursion on Sunday.
Best regards
Otto
Prof. Klaus Brunnstein,
IFIP President
Dear Prof. Brunnstein,
Many thanks for your mail regarding hosting the IFIP World Computer Congress
2010 in India together with the traditional TC-6 conference "Networking".
The Computer Society of India will be honoured to get the opportunity to
host the IFIP WCC in IFIP's 50th year, as also the TC-6 Networks Conference.
We have had many of our senior members working with IFIP and its TCs over
these 50 years and we will marshal all our resources and the support of our
government to make the World Computer Congress 2010 a grand success.
Professor S V Raghavan of the Department of Computer Science and
Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras will work with me and
our Manager - Conference Management Services to prepare a formal bid for
this purpose.
You will recall that I met you at the SEARCC EXCO at Sydney last year. We
are happy to have your support; we will surely gear up to put up a good set
of conferences / events.
With regards,
Lalit Sawhney

Thank you very much for your offer to organise WCC 2010 and networking 2010
in India.
I have forwarded your request to Klaus brunnstein (IFIP president
and chairman of the congress selection committee)
and to Eduard Dundler (IFIP secretariat); both of them get a copy of
tis message, too.
Eduard told me on the phone that exactly today the official procedure
concerning bids for WCC 2010 will be started by informing the
National Societies. Thus an official reply and a formal bid for WCC 2010
would have to come from the National GA Representative of India.
With respect to Networking 2010 the committee TC6 will discuss your
request at the occasion of the next meeting in May 2007. As you know,
Networking
2008 will be held in Asia already (Singapore), Networking 2009 is still
open (maybe in London). There might be some discussion whether we should
return
to Asia just two years after 2008. But, personally I think that this would
be a possible option.
Another discussion point is that traditionally Networking XXXX is held in
May
whereas WCC YYYY must be held in end of August or in early September
together
with a IFIP GA Meeting. We would have to discuss with TC6 whether we go
away from our
traditional date and whether we want to combine Networking with WCC;
here I see some
potential for conflicting views.
A last point is the weather situation in India during August/September;
as you told me
in Paris, there is still some heavy monsoon rain in some parts of the
country
during that time of the year; this would make the organisation of a large
congress less convenient. On the other hand, you said that
in some other parts of India the weather would be quite good at that
time of the year. You didn't indicate a town where WCC 2010 should be held.
So you see that this and other points deserve thorough discussion.
Thanks once again for your initiative. I look very much forward to it.
Best regards
Otto

Dear Otto,
As TC-6 Representative from India, I would like to formally request IFIP and
IFIP TC6 to hold WCC 2010 and Networking 2010 in India. I did mention it
informally while we were together in Paris last month.
After the Paris meeting, I have discussed the possibilities with President,
Computer Society of India (CSI) and he conveyed that CSI supports this idea.
Computer Society of India will be formally approaching IFIP GA and Council
for WCC 2010 and I have been authorized to approach TC6 and the Working
Group for Networking 2010. Our (CSI) Public Relations will make the Country
Presentation whenever it is scheduled.
The current thinking is that we will make it a unique showcasing experience
of Technology, Service, and India. Perhaps, multiple locations, video walls,
and immersion technologies!
Kindly guide me as to what needs to be done next. CSI is in the process of
forming the Steering Committee to prepare for 2010.

Aims and Scopes
-------------------------
Pervasive computing has emerged as a new computing and
communication environment with the aim of providing services
anytime and anywhere for everyone. To facilitate resource sharing
and support group communications, pervasive computing devices
should be able to support ad hoc communications and networking.
With ad hoc communications, seamless and transparent access to
services and applications can be achieved while providing
mechanisms for establishing spontaneous and interactive networking
among communicating entities. Despite considerable progress in
mobile computing and wireless communication technologies, new user
demands and emerging applications introduce challenges in several
areas including security, privacy, processing, auto configuration,
scalability, software infrastructure, communication models and
networking infrastructure. To support flexibility and unlimited
mobility, services and applications should adapt to heterogeneous
networking environment supporting multihop communication in hybrid
wired/wireless environment.
This symposium will bring together researchers and practitioners
from industry and academia to present their current research
results and discuss future trends in pervasive computing and ad
hoc communications.
