Dear all,
I'm still waiting for your comments concerning the "Open Access
proposal" made
by Springer SSBM.
Until now, I received only one comment made by Adam Grzech
who finds the Springer proposal acceptable. In the same line (basically)
there is a remark made by Arrigo Frisiani (IFIP trustee); see attachment.
Arrigo is sceptical about in-house solutions due to a number of reasons
(which I can fully support and which don't have to be repeated here).
Moreover, he doesn't care too much about the perpetuity of any solution
(since if Springer goes bankrupt then the same is very well possible for
other organisations, too - including IFIP). This feeling is also fully
supported by me.
Basically, Springer would request 20 percent higher bulk sale prices
for the Open Access Prices but: "Nothing is for free" and, to my opinion,
this increase in price is comparatively modest.
TC6 made so many harsh statment concerning the necessity of an
Open Access Digital Library (in particular during the Coimbra
meeting); thus we will now need an answer about whether the
Springer SSBM proposal is acceptable for us or not.
I should give this combined answer from TC6 to Joe Turner
(chair of the publication committee) by November 24.
Best regards
Otto

exciting topics of sensor, mesh and ad-hoc communications and networks.
This year, SECON has been merged with the IEEE International Workshop
on Wireless Ad-hoc and Sensor Networks (IWWAN).
Original technical papers that address the communications, networking,

in designing and deploying large scale ad-hoc, mesh, and sensor network
applications.
POSTERS, DEMOS, AND EXHIBITS:
SECON will also include poster/demo sessions that provide an interactive
forum to present work in progress, showcase real system implementations,
highlight industrial/commercial developments, and discuss key research
challenges in the fields of sensor, mesh, and ad-hoc networks. Details
about the poster and demo submission procedure will soon be available
on the conference web site.
PAPER SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:
Paper submissions will be handled electronically through the EDAS web
based system. Details about the submission process including formatting
instructions and templates are available at the conference website
located at http://www.ieee-secon.org/2007/.

Aims and Scopes
---------------
Pervasive computing has emerged as a new computing and
communication environment with the aim of providing services
anytime and anywhere for everyone. To facilitate resource sharing
and support group communications, pervasive computing devices
should be able to support ad hoc communications and networking.
With ad hoc communications, seamless and transparent access to
services and applications can be achieved while providing
mechanisms for establishing spontaneous and interactive networking
among communicating entities. Despite considerable progress in
mobile computing and wireless communication technologies, new user
demands and emerging applications introduce challenges in several
areas including security, privacy, processing, auto configuration,
scalability, software infrastructure, communication models and
networking infrastructure. To support flexibility and unlimited
mobility, services and applications should adapt to heterogeneous
networking environment supporting multihop communication in hybrid
wired/wireless environment.
