Scope of EWSN 2005:
===================
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are fast emerging as a new sensing
paradigm based on the collaborative effort of large number of sensors
deployed close to or inside the phenomenon to be observed, and have
the potential of providing diverse services to numerous applications.
The realization of WSNs require intensive technical research efforts
especially on energy efficient scalable wireless ad hoc communication
protocols due to their unusual application requirements and unique
constraints. Additionally, WSNs are further evolving from simple data
transportation networks to functionally rich distributed systems such
that the tasks of event sensing and acting upon the phenomenon can be
collectively realized in an autonomous manner by sensor and actuator
nodes.
The objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers from
different backgrounds ranging from hardware to applications, to
create a forum where cross-layer integration, novel solutions for
specific problems, and the future development of WSN functionalities
can be discussed.
We encourage contributions describing innovative work on WSN. Areas
of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Hardware for WSN: transceiver concepts, wakeup radio, antenna
design, system integration, process and cost of manufacturing,
battery technology, energy scavenging
* Communication protocols: MAC and link layer problems, routing and
transport protocols tailored for WSN, redundancy, data aggregation,
and mobility support; gateways to fixed Internet; providing
functionalities like localization and synchronization
* Source coding techniques appropriate for WSN to support data fusion
* Middleware for WSN: Configuration and installation support, lookup
of available functionalities, group communication, distributed
algorithms in WSN, harmonizing node-centric and data-centric
addressing, integrating WSN in middleware architectures like .NET
* Security: primitives for appropriate cryptographic protocols,
secure system engineering
* Applications of WSN: novel applications and their requirements such
as medicine, environment control, etc.; experiences with real-world
applications
* What part will WSNs play in realizing the visions of ubiquitous
computing & communication and Ambient Intelligence.
* Prototypes, field studies, and testbeds: novel sensor node
prototypes, measurements within sensor network testbeds
* Modeling of WSN: models for WSN load/applications, mobility or
channel models

==================== CALL FOR PAPERS
====================================
1st IEEE International Workshop on Networking Issues in Multimedia
Entertainment (NIME'04)
http://nime04.csr.unibo.it/nime04
GLOBECOM 2004 - Satellite Workshop
November 29th 2004
Dallas, TX, USA
Submission Deadline June 25th 2004
==============================
The growing availability of digital contents and the simultaneous cost
reductions in storage, processing,
and networking is driving the growth of the entertainment technology.
Many of the technologies pioneered
in emerging entertainment applications have also found use in a large
spectrum of more serious settings,
ranging from telemedicine to in-home, in-car, in-flight multimedia
distribution platforms. The success of
the entertainment technology is confirmed by several facts. Take, for
example, the two following cases: in
2003 the revenues generated by games have yet again surpassed those
provided by the movie industry; the
Apple iTunes online music service has hit a record share of almost 20%
in the MP3 player market in the
last semester of 2003. Further, while in the past entertainment
technology traditionally offered
predominantly passive experiences (e.g., video on demand), continual
advances in network and computer
technologies are providing tools for implementing greater interactivity
and for enabling consumers to enjoy
more exciting experiences, such as, for example, interactive digital
TV, interactive theatre and orchestrated
music and sound design. Simply put, today's entertainment technology is
able to create "entertainment
spaces" in which people experience a world where games, movies, songs,
plus news, sport events and
shows, are all made available for instant enjoyment with just one
click. Another beneficial aspect of high-
tech entertainment is that this phenomenon is pulling together an
extremely diverse group of experts
specializing in different technical areas, such as networking, computer
graphics, games, animation,
multimedia design, human-computer interaction, educational media and
software engineering. Even though
high-tech entertainment promotes interdisciplinary fusion, however,
only the ubiquity of wireless/wired
communication is considered suitable for accepting the challenge of
building a "large interactive
environment" for the delivery of the maximum entertainment value to
millions of consumers worldwide. In
this respect, there is a great hope that the wired and wireless
Internet (along with its protocols,
architectures, programming styles and technological solutions) may take
over this complex scenario for
fulfilling the consumer expectations. The first IEEE International
Workshop on Networking Issues in
Multimedia Entertainment provides an open forum for researchers,
engineers and academia to exchange the
latest technical information and research findings on Next-Generation
Multimedia Networking concepts,
technologies, systems, and applications for entertainment covering
existing deployments, current

Call For Papers
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Scope:
Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks (WSANs) are fast emerging as a new
sensing paradigm based on the collaborative effort of large number of
sensors deployed close to or inside the phenomenon to be observed, and
have the potential of providing diverse services to numerous
applications. The realization of WSANs require intensive technical
research efforts especially in power aware scalable wireless ad hoc
communications protocols due to their unusual application requirements
and unique constraints such as the following:
- WSANs are generally composed of large number of sensor nodes that
have limited computational and storage capacity.
- In many applications, sensor nodes can be randomly scattered in
unreachable regions.
- The sensed phenomenon must be acted on by the actor nodes in field
in a timely and accurate manner.
- The lifetime of a sensor network is generally limited to the battery
lifetime of sensor nodes.
SANPA 2004 is intended to provide a forum for researchers to present
their contributions as technical papers related to communication
protocols for WSANs, data management, access, aggregation and fusion
techniques, and sensor network applications. SANPA 2004 will continue
and build upon the success of SNPA 2003 (held in conjunction with ICC
2003). The papers solicited in SANPA 2004 cover a variety of topics
including but not limited to:
- Communication protocols for Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks at
all layers
- Novel sensor/actor network applications and services
- Self organizing and scalable sensor/actor network architectures
- Software platforms and tools for sensor/actor network application
development
- Energy efficient medium access control, error control, and traffic
management protocols
- Energy efficient system services such as localization and time
synchronization
- Robust distributed algorithms for collaborative processing
- Mechanisms, protocols and algorithms for authenticated, secure
communication
- Application specific network and system services, including
data-centric routing, attribute based addressing and location
management
- Data querying and dissemination
- Data compression, association, aggregation and fusion
Submission Instructions:
The papers should confirm with the MobiQuitous paper format
(www.mobiquitous.org) and can be up to 11 pages long. Authors should
submit a PDF version of their paper to sanpa(a)ece.gatech.edu. For more
information about the workshop, see http://www.sanpa.org/.
Papers of particular merit will be published in the Ad Hoc Networks

Dear all,
until now a percect number of delegates have confirmed their
attendance, namely 28 (see annex).
Comment: A number is called perfect if the sum of its integer factors
(excluding itself, of course) is equal to the number.
28 is one of the few perfect numbers since 28 = 1 + 2 + 4 + 7 + 14.
Other perfect numbers are 6 and 496. There are not very many of them
and I don't really know whether there is another one.
However, it is unknown (as far as I know) whether the the total
number of them is finite or infinite.
There are still some answers missing (from Australia, France, India,... and
a few others).
A nonperfect number of attendees would be even better and maybe the largest
attendance in TC6 history.
Thus I wait for some positive answers.
Best regards
Otto
