3rd International Workshop on
PARALLEL AND DISTRIBUTED METHODS IN VERIFICATION
(PDMC 2004)
September 4, 2004, London, U.K.
Workshop affiliated to CONCUR'04, 31 August - 3 September 2004.
http://www.fi.muni.cz/~brim/PDMC04
=============================================================================
OBJECTIVES: The growing importance of automated formal verification in
industry is driving a growing interest in those aspects which have a
direct impact on its applicability to real world problems. One of the
main technical challenges is in devising tools that allow to handle
large state spaces. Over the last years numerous approaches have been
developed. Recently, an increasing interest is in parallelizing and
distributing of verification techniques.
The aim of the PDMC workshop series is to cover all aspects of
parallel and distributed methods and techniques for formal
verification. Theoretical results, algorithms and case studies are
equally welcome. After two successful meetings in 2002 and 2003 with
primary focus on parallelization of model checking, the scope of the
workshop have been extended to cover all approaches where parallel and
distributed techniques can make the automated verification more
effective and/or extend its applicability. This extension is also
reflected in the new name of the workshop.
The PDMC workshop aims to provide a working forum for presenting,
sharing, and discussing recent achievements in the field of parallel
and distributed verification. The workshop will consist of invited
talks and a selection from submitted papers.
SCOPE AND TOPICS: Papers describing recent work on all aspects of
parallel and distributed verification are solicited as contributions
to PDMC. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* parallel and distributed model checking
* parallel and distributed equivalence checking
* parallel and distributed satisfiability checking
* slicing and distributing the state space
* distributed theorem proving
* distributed constraints solving
* parallel methods in probabilistic model checking
* file systems for distributed transitions systems
* parallel methods in performance evaluation
* tools and case studies
* industrial applications
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: There are two categories of submissions:
regular papers and presentations.
* Manuscripts of regular papers are limited to a maximum of 10
pages (excluding bibliography and technical appendices) in
postscript or PDF format (ENTCS style strongly recommended).
* Presentation reports on relevant results submitted to other
forums or already published or on not yet finished work in
progress. Presentations will appear in the workshop preliminary
proceedings, but will not be considered for the final workshop
proceedings. The space limit for presentations is 10 pages
(excluding bibliography and technical appendices) in postscript
or PDF format (ENTCS style strongly recommended).
Submissions should be made electronically using PDMC'04 Submission Page.
PROCEEDINGS: The preliminary workshop proceedings will be available as
a Research Report of Imperial College London. The final proceedings
appear as a volume of Electronic Notes in Theoretical Computer
Science. After the workshop, selected authors will be invited to
submit full versions of their papers (regular papers or presentation
results not submitted for journal publication) to a special issue of
IEEE Transaction of Parallel and Distributed Systems (under
negotiation).

Application Sessions for MMNS 2004:
https://www.itsharenet.org/MMNS/Application_Sessions
Autonomic Session Chair: John Strassner
Multimedia Architecture Session Chair: Raymond Liao
CfP is below:
This year, MMNS 2004 is introducing the concept of an "application
session". These sessions focus on the management of multimedia networks
and services from an industry and end-user perspective. Particular
emphasis will be placed on the experiences of enterprises, Service
Providers, vendors, and customers in the following two areas:
* The move towards implementing network autonomics
* New architectures and mechanisms to support mission critical or
next generation wireless/multimedia systems and services
The first session includes any and all work on making all components of
the managed environment (e.g., network devices, applications, servers,
middleware, and others) behave in an autonomic fashion. The second
session includes any and all work on management and control
architectures, and the mechanisms that they use, to support next
generation wireless/multimedia systems and services.
The application sessions therefore complement the main conference track,
which is focused on theory and research results. Its aim is to help
encourage discussions between academia and industry, and to emphasize
the practical application and problems encountered when building and
managing multimedia systems and services.
Please note that "vendor advertisements" will not be allowed.
1. How it will be organized
The Application Session will consist of two groups of sessions. The
first, focusing on Network Autonomics, will be chaired by John
Strassner. The second, focusing on architectures, will be chaired by
Raymond Liao. Both sessions will have their own application committee,
which will be responsible for reviewing and selecting papers submitted
to each application session. The Application Session will also use EDAS
for paper submissions.
2. Organizational Details of the Application Session
The paper format should be written in English. The presentation must be
original that is not currently under review, and has not been previously
published in another conference or journal. Submissions will be in the
form of presentations, with the top half consisting of graphics, and the
bottom half made up of explanatory text. Submissions should be no longer
than 14 pages, including title and references. A sample PowerPoint file
will be available from the MMNS website for use as a reference.
Submissions using PowerPoint or PDF will be accepted. To submit your
paper, go to <https://www.itsharenet.org/MMNS/Papers> Paper Submission.
There is no specific limitation to topics for these workshops, as long
as they relate to the two themes listed above. For further infomation,
please contact the Session Chairs,
<mailto:john.strassner@intelliden.com> John Strassner and
<mailto:rliao@ttb.siemens.com> Raymond Liao.
3. Important Dates (for both application sessions)
Submission Deadline: July 2, 2004
Notification of Acceptance: August 2, 2004
Final Version: August 23, 2004
4. Proceedings
All application sessions will be published in their own separate
proceedings.

Call For Papers
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Scope:
Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks (WSANs) are fast emerging as a new
sensing paradigm based on the collaborative effort of large number of
sensors deployed close to or inside the phenomenon to be observed, and
have the potential of providing diverse services to numerous
applications. The realization of WSANs require intensive technical
research efforts especially in power aware scalable wireless ad hoc
communications protocols due to their unusual application requirements
and unique constraints such as the following:
- WSANs are generally composed of large number of sensor nodes that
have limited computational and storage capacity.
- In many applications, sensor nodes can be randomly scattered in
unreachable regions.
- The sensed phenomenon must be acted on by the actor nodes in field
in a timely and accurate manner.
- The lifetime of a sensor network is generally limited to the battery
lifetime of sensor nodes.
SANPA 2004 is intended to provide a forum for researchers to present
their contributions as technical papers related to communication
protocols for WSANs, data management, access, aggregation and fusion
techniques, and sensor network applications. SANPA 2004 will continue
and build upon the success of SNPA 2003 (held in conjunction with ICC
2003). The papers solicited in SANPA 2004 cover a variety of topics
including but not limited to:
- Communication protocols for Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks at
all layers
- Novel sensor/actor network applications and services
- Self organizing and scalable sensor/actor network architectures
- Software platforms and tools for sensor/actor network application
development
- Energy efficient medium access control, error control, and traffic
management protocols
- Energy efficient system services such as localization and time
synchronization
- Robust distributed algorithms for collaborative processing
- Mechanisms, protocols and algorithms for authenticated, secure
communication
- Application specific network and system services, including
data-centric routing, attribute based addressing and location
management
- Data querying and dissemination
- Data compression, association, aggregation and fusion
Submission Instructions:
The papers should confirm with the MobiQuitous paper format
(www.mobiquitous.org) and can be up to 11 pages long. Authors should
submit a PDF version of their paper to sanpa(a)ece.gatech.edu. For more
information about the workshop, see http://www.sanpa.org/.
