Dear IFIP TC 6:
IFIP Working Group 6.4 on Internet Applications Engineering is participating as a partner in organizing the 2002 International World Wide Web conference (WWW2002). This is a significant achievement for us. WWW is one of the most prestigious conferences in the field with significant participation from both academia and industry. The expected number of attendees is around 1200. Recently, the issue of acceptance rates at IFIP-organized events came up. Being involved with WWW should definitely help us out here. The acceptance rates for the past 3 WWW conference have been: 2001: 19.9%, 2000: 19%, 1999: 15.8%.
I strongly encourage all of you to help publicize this conference and to participate if possible. It will take place May 7-11 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, and the paper submission deadline is November 13. The URL for the conference is: http://www2002.org.
Attached are 2 copies of WWW2002 Call for Participation announcements. The first is an ASCII text version which is appropriate for distributing via e-mail. The 2nd is a 1-page color advertisement which can be printed out (preferably on a color printer) and displayed at your place of work, distributed at conferences, etc. If you would like a larger WWW2002 brochure to distribute, please send e-mail to info@www2002.org with your name, address, and the number of copies you are requesting.
I put in a lot of effort in order to involve IFIP with this highly successful conference. One of the things the conference organizers are looking for in order to justify IFIP partnership for future events (and the revenues which will go to IFIP) is evidence of the number of extra participants which result from IFIP. If anyone has any thoughts on how this information can be obtained, I would be quite interested in hearing them.
Best Regards, Arun Iyengar IBM Research
