Dear TC6 meeting participants:
I will have to change slightly the venue of the meeting, as it seems it interferes with the Olympic preparations (renovation) fever currently in Athens.
I was informed last week that the Old University building in Plaka (that houses the University History Museaum) undergoes some renovation works and - although probably still open on some days - it will be difficult to accommodate our meeting. To avoid any intereference and possible inconveniences, I have decided NOT to use this building for our meeting.
The new location will be again at the center of Athens, and it is the second oldest University building, designed to be the first University building (the one in Plaka served temporarily as the first one but was not designed for this purpose).
The building is shown at the main page of my university url: http://www.uoa.gr/uoauk/uoaindex.htm There is a map of the area at the same URL under "University Campuses and Transportation". From there, you select "Center of Athens" and you can see the map with streets and the locations of various University buildings in the area.
The venue will be the "Rectory and Admin Services" building at 30, Panepistimiou street. It is right at the "PANEPISTIMIO" stop of the new Athens Metro. It is between SYNTAGMA and OMONIA squares and corresponding metro stops. See http://www.ametro.gr/main/imagemap_text_eng.gif . The new venue is closer to the Park Hotel than the old one and will probably cost 2-3 Euros by taxi to get there.
Athens Metro: http://www.ametro.gr Athens old electric subway (ISAP -line 1) plus Athens Metro Lines : http://www.isap.gr/en/
I plan to have the Friday dinner and (late?) Saturday lunch in the Plaka/Acropolis area. It is 20 minutes walk or one can take the Athens metro or electric subway (ISAP) go to the metro station "MONASTIRAKI" to access the Plaka/Acropolis area.
The room reserved is "The Room of Meetings of the Faculties of the Schools". I plan to have information at the main entrance of the building (at the the guard's desk) with room directions and any other last minute information. So please, look for it upon arrival.
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience.
