Dear all,
Dear Otto,
Do we have data about WCC 2004 in Toulouse?
I attended both WCC and the general assemby in Toulouse and I have the data ou request.
Was it a success?
From technical as well from organisational viewpoints it was a great
success. In total there were more than 1000 attendees; however as the registration was global for all events I have no data per track or other concurrent activities (topical days, workshops, student forum, etc.). The bad point was that the breakeven was at 1300 attendees and, in consequence there were aprox 220000 euros of losses (report from Jean-Claude Laprie to the general assembly). If you need some other information, do not hesitate to ask. Best egards Ramon
Total attendance? Attendance per sub-event?
Best regards, Guy

Dear all,
here is the first invitation for IFIP WCC 2006 in Santiago de Chile. Contributions of TC's are particularly wanted. You will see that TC6 is explicitly mentioned "due to its experience with events in South America". The topic wil have to be discussed in Bangkok.
Best regards Otto
Dear TC Chairs
Nice seeing most of you in Toulouse, and welcome to the new TC 9 and TC 13 Chairs.
As you know, I was appointed by President Brunstein as IPC Chair for WCC 2006 (because of some matters outside my control, this appointment will be revisited.)However, in the meantime, I would like to invite all TCs, and their Working Groups, to seriously consider some smaller or bigger involvement in WCC 2006.
I know some of you have already scheduled conferences for 2006, but urge you to consider some (further) involvement at WCC 2006.
It is a unique opportunity in Southern America, and some TCs like TC 6 and TC 9 have experiences of being involved there.
Please consult your management ASAP, as time is short, and we want to get the structure of the program sorted out ASAP.
Hope to hear from you.

Basie von Solms Vice-President

Dear Ramon,
Thanks for the interesting data, but who is going to pay the 220 kEUR this time?
Best regards, Guy
[Private joke] Please, advise the next WCC organizer to set the break even point more realistically (I would not bet above 500 participants next time).

It has long seemed to me that the WCC is fast becoming a dinosaur congress. When one past IFIP president wrote that it was the " most important thing that IFIP does", I had to protest.
I humbly suggest that TC6 suggest to the Powers That Be that the days of WCC are past and that IFIP's exposure is much greater than any conceivable gain.
Sorry to be so negative but our smaller, carefully targeted technical meetings are much more attractive in this day and age. Well, just one person's opinion. A good topic for the next TC6 meeting.
with best regards all around, Harry
