Dear all,
please find enclosed - the new TC6 calendar of events - the updated delegate list.
WG chairpersons: Please check "your" events and send me some modifications (if necessary).
There is a very "surprising" new element in the list, namely an IFIP TC6 Workshop on "Broadband Satellite Communication Systems and the Challenge of Mobility" to be held in conjunction with the World Computer Congress in Toulouse (August 23-26, 2004).
I learned about this event when I received a Kluwer editors agreement (editors are Thierry Gayraud, Michel Mazzella, Fernando Pedro Lopes Boavida Fernandes, Edmundo Heitor da Silva Monteiro, and Gilberto da Matos Orvalho; I don't know them and probably they have not been visible in TC6 before). The agreement had already the signature of Jean-Claude Laprie (WCC chair) and of Klaus Brunnstein (IFIP president).
Please forgive me that I didn't want to provoke a scandal (since the procedure is indeed inacceptable) but that I signed the agreement. I believe that it will be a good activity but of course we should have been informed before - in particular since TC6 is quite reluctant to participate in WCC's. At least WG's 6.1, 6.2 and 6.8 should have been asked whether they would like to contribute.
I asked IFIP secretariat about that but they couldn't give me more information until now.
Please feel free to comment on that story.
Best regards Otto
Dear Otto,
As I told you before I have not received any request for the organization of this Workshop during my chairmanship period. I fully agree with you that before announcing a TC6 event, a request must be made to the Committee.
Best regards
Augusto
