Dear all,
two working group have organised an election procedure for a new chairperson: WG 6.1 (since the second term of Guy leduc ends at the end of 2004) WG 6.9 (since Ramon Puigjaner has too many other obligations; among others he is GA representative from Spain; Ramon will stay active as Spanish TC6 delegate and he will contribute furtheron to WG 6.9 activities).
The request for candidates had the following input:
1. Two candidate teams for WG 6.1 (i.e. teams of collaborating candidates which appears to be meaningful since WG 6.1 is by far the biggest working group of TC6): Team 1: Elie Najm and John Derrick. Team 2: Kurt Geihs and Hartmut Koenig.
2. Two candidates for WG 6.9: Ana Pont Villy Baek Iversen.
The outcome of the voting is reasonably clear (see below). Thus we should appoint Elie Najm and John Derrick as well as Ana Pont at the occasion of our meeting in Bangkok.
I would also invite the newly elected chairpersons to attend the meeting; at least Ana Pont will be in Bangkok.
Should you have some objections then please tell me.
Best regards Otto

Message from Guy Leduc (WG 6.1 chair):
Dear WG6.1 colleagues,
I am happy to let you know that 33 WG members have voted (= participation of 77%).
The result is:
Elie Najm and John Derrick: 20 votes (= 60.6 %) Kurt Geihs and Hartmut Koenig: 13 votes (= 39.4 %)
Therefore Elie will be the new chairman and John the new vice-chairman, starting on January 1st, 2005, for a period of 3 years, renewable once.
Congratulations to them!
On January 1st 2005, I will also step down from all steering committees.
Their new composition will be as follows:
- Elie Najm will be the IFIP representative in
the Middleware Steering Committee.
New FORTE Steering Committee: Gregor v. Bochman, CA (bochmann@site.uottawa.ca) Tommaso Bolognesi, IT (t.bolognesi@isti.cnr.it) John Derrick, GB (J.Derrick@kent.ac.uk), chair Ken Turner, UK (k.j.turner@cs.stir.ac.uk)
New TESTCOM Steering Committee: Ana Cavalli, FR (Ana.Cavalli@int-evry.fr) John Derrick, GB (J.Derrick@kent.ac.uk), chair Roland Groz, FR (roland.groz@imag.fr) Alex Petrenko, CA (petrenko@crim.ca)
New DAIS Steering Committee: Kurt Geihs, DE (geihs@ivs.tu-berlin.de) Hartmut König, DE (koenig@Informatik.TU-Cottbus.DE) Elie Najm, FR (Elie.Najm@enst.fr), chair
- New member
Based on the results of the previous election, it would seem logical to me to nominate Lea Kutvonen (FI) as new DAIS SC member. As a reminder here are the DAIS steering
committee results (April 2004):
Lea Kutvonen was 4th with: Yes [15] No [3] Abstain [13] Krzysztof Zielinski was 5th with: Yes [8] No [3] Abstain [20]
New FMOODS Steering Committee: John Derrick, GB (J.Derrick@kent.ac.uk), chair Roberto Gorrieri, IT (gorrieri@cs.unibo.it) Elie Najm, FR (Elie.Najm@enst.fr)
- new member
Here we had no other candidates in 2004. We'll have to call for candidates.

Otto Spaniol, the chairman of the TC6 has been informed of this result and I expect he will appoint Ana Pont as new chairwoman in the next TC6 meeting that will be held next November 21-22 in Bangkok.
