WG 6.11 report (Sept. 2006) =====================
Not much to report on WG 6.11 this time:
Preparations for our annual confernce "I3E" are running smoothly - it is helt in Turku, Finland in about 3 weeks (organised by Reima Suomi). Also the next regular WG6.11 meeting will take place there.
Future I3E conferences are scheduled - for 2007 in Wuhan, China, and - for 2008 in Tokio, Japan
Initial preparations for those events already started.
Some progress on the issue of cooperation with other TCs (especially TC11 and TC8) wrt I3E: We just reveived a note from TC11 that they will - after longer discussions - withdraw as a formal partner from I3E. This clarifies formally what was already practice in recent years. But in order to keep the relationships to topics addressed by TC11 (as well as TC8) we asked them to keep an "inofficial" cooperation wrt, e.g., jointly addressing topics of mutual interest at I3E. Similar clarifications with TC8 are still to come.
So, in the future, I3E will ("officially") probably become a pure TC6 (organised by WG 6.11) event - with - hopefully - still some fruitful cooperation with (among others) TC11 as well as TC8.
We still have to decide on how to reflect that in the I3E steering committee.
Kind regards, Winfried Lamersdorf (WG 6.11 Co-Chair)
PS: A WG 6.11 web sit is up and running - currently at Uni Hamburg - and connected to the TC6 site.
