Dear IFIP TC6 members, I have now to attribute the chair positions for the sessions of Autonomic Networking conférence (4 positions are available). Autonomic Networking 06 is the join conference of IWAN, WAC, IntelComm and SmartNet. Let me know if you are interested in such a chairpersonship.
As one of the flagship conference of TC6, you are invited to register in this conference through the web site. During the meeting in Paris just after the conference we will have to discuss of the next Autonomic Networking conference (I get some informal demands to organize the conference in 2007) or to come back to individual conference or continue AN and WAC and IWAN in parallel or any other possibility. Autonomic Networking 2006, Paris 27 to 29 September 2006 www.autonomic-net.org
Finally, I had no answer at all on the following message (below is the interesting part of the message). The ACF meeting will take place during the confernce in Paris, just 2 days before the TC6 meeting. I think this is an important issue to discuss in Santiago for the preliminary meeting of the TC6. So, if you have some comments please let us know. Best regards, Guy

ACF (Autonomic Networking Forum) is a forum created two years ago. There are 600 members. Radu Popescu Zeletin is at the head of this consortium. One of the potential proposal that could be an output of the ACF meeting in Paris during the Autonomic Networking Conference could be to propose to become a Working Group of the IFIP. This WG focus could be on the normalization of AC interfaces and environment (this is an output of discussions held some time ago in a conference in Mykonos). So the TC6 could propose officially this solution and let the ACF continues its very strong work within the TC6 with a large freedom. This could be a strong action of the TC6. Guy

Dear Guy P. (and others),
I'm not yet sure when I can arrive in Paris; this is due to some other things (PhD defenses etc.) which might be scheduled for the last week of September. Paris is too near and therefore some other business cannot be avoided in the same week! Thus it is better not to foresee a session chairmanship for me.
During the meeting in Paris just after the conference we will have to discuss of the next Autonomic Networking conference (I get some informal demands to organize the conference in 2007) or to come back to individual conference or continue AN and WAC and IWAN in parallel or any other possibility. My suggestion is to have one strong conferences rather than a subdivision into plenty of subcritical small events which would all end up in agony. Hopefully I can come early enough to Paris in order to defend this hypothesis. Take the success of Networking xx as an example.
Finally, I had no answer at all on the following message (below is the interesting part of the message). It is on the agenda of the Santiago meeting but I'm not sure whether there are enough delegates present in Santiago in order to come to an almost final conclusion. ACF is part of my GA report indicating that we may soon come with a proposal for new working groups. Til now, it was unclear whether we should establish new groups (ACF, sensor netowrks, ad-hoc networks,...) or whether we should enforce the existing ones such as WG 6.8 on wireless communication.
Please give us input about the WG 6.2 chairmanship. Only one potential candidate is known to me: Georg Carle from Tuebingen. Geord would be willing to come to paris for the second day of the mmeting, i.e. on Saturday only due to time conflicts. He would (or will) present his concepts for the further life of WG 6.2. I have already invited him to attend.
Best regards Otto
p.s.: Getting back no answer at all when you distribute a question for comments is not untypical. It happens for many messages. We are not even informed about established conferences which will have there next event in less than three month from now. Obviously, some WG chairpersons expect that I seek via Google in order to find the corresponding information. (And French based chairpersons don't make an exception of that observation) It has to be stated that I will not be able to continue this tedious and superfluous Google search activities. I really don't know what to do.

I agree. I'd advise to merge them. I don't think it will be a problem for INTELLCOMM, SMARTNET and IWAN. I am less sure about WAC. This community may want to live on its own. We can also possibly add NETCON to the set.
Best regards, Guy

I'll be attending for sure, but due to teaching commitments that are not yet finalized, I cannot guarantee a slot where I'll be there for sure.

It would be nice to have a WG addressing fully Autonomic Communications/Networking in TC6. Clearly WG6.7, hosting events like INTELLCOMM, SMARTNET and IWAN, is somehow already addressing this topic. Similarly, WG6.6 on management is also addressing AC. And finally, NETCON is also in a related area (don't remember in which WG it is).
Would it make sense to have 3 WGs (6.6, 6.7 and ACF) intersecting that much, or would it be better to keep only 2 WGs, possibly reshaped, with one of them clearly addressing Autonomic Communication/Networking?
I'm just tring to figure out what would be the ideal struture of TC6, but I would support getting ACF on board in one way or another.
Best regards, Guy

Several delegates - in particular those who would like to attend both the conference and the TC6 meeting - expressed their interest to know about the location of both events. They would prefer not to be obliged to change the hotel during their stay.
Thus: Where will the meeting be held? Do you have some recommendation for hotels (for both the conference and the eeting)?
Best regards Otto
Hi, The conference will take place in Rue des Ecoles in the heart of Quartier Latin, 6th arrondissement (Métro Odeon) The TC6 meeting will take place in the University Pierre et Marie Curie, the address is just below, it's very close from the Eiffel Tower, this in the 15th arrondissement but very close to the 7th arrondissement. The metro is either Duplex, Bir Hakeim an La Motte Piquet Grenelle. There is a direct metro between Odéon and La Motte Piquet Grenelle (5 stations in between). So, the best is to be either close to Odéon, or La Motte Piquet Grenelle, both places are quite nice. So if the hôtel could be in the 6th, 7th or in the north of the 15th arrondissement, this seems to be the best. I will try to find some hotel in these areas. I will send you the list soon. If you need an invitation letter please let me know. See you in Paris or in Santiago (I will participate in the meeting in Santiago). Guy
