Dear Raouf,
Last week, during the WG6.6 meeting at MANWEEK 2006 in Dublin, I have announced that my term as the WG6.6 chair is ending mid 2007. In order to make the transition smooth, I suggest that we identify the new chair before TC6 2007.1 meeting, so I can pass on to him/her the needed information. With respect to the process as described in your email, I feel that it will be more appropriate if the WG6.6 members can nominate and/or elect who they feel can be a good chair of the working group. The TC6 committee can approve or confirm the candidate chair. I can ask the WG6.6 members for volunteers and if there are volunteers, TC6 can then look at the candidates and pursue whoever is considered most appropriate for WG6.6 and TC6.
I suggest that WG 6.6 members propose candidates for the chairmanship. There could also be some kind of election but this result is not binding for the committee (it can, however, give a strong indication of the WG feeling). The decision about a new chairperson has to be made by the TC6 committee - best after a personal presentation of one or two candidates concerning their intentions what to do with the WG.
Best regards Otto
I will proceed as suggested. -raouf
