Dear TC6 members and especially Volker,
I have received the following message from Prof. Camarinha de Matos from TC5. I would like to know your comments, if any, to his proposal. I ask especially Volker to analyse how this proposal can co-exist with WG 6.11.
My objective is to know what is TC6 position regarding this proposal when it is discussed in the next Technical Assembly.
In a separate mail I will send you the aims and scope of the proposed new WG.
Please let me have your comments until July 5th.
Best regards
Augusto

Dear colleague,
As you know, there was recently an initiative inside TC to create a new Working Group WG 5.5 COOPERATION INFRASTRUCTURE FOR VIRTUAL ENTERPRISES AND ELECTRONIC BUSINESS - "COVE".
TC5 Chairman (Gus Olling) asked me to contact you as it seems you had some questions regarding potential overlapping of the Aims & Scope of this WG and other WGs.
As you know, Virtual Enterprises / Virtual Organizations is a truly multi-disciplinary area that requires contributions from many disciplines. The only way real progress in this -- as well as in many other areas -- can be achieved is through the involvement of people with different backgrounds. During the "launching phase" I was successful in getting the involvement and commitment of a good number of well-known experts in the area of VE/VO from many geographical regions (Europe, USA, Canada, Latin America, Asia). These people have been involved in several important international projects on Virtual Enterprises. When trying to define the Aims & Scope we tried, naturally, to cover in a consistent way the most important topics required for the area. I understand that this set of topics might involve a number of issues that are also topics of interest of others TCs and WGs. In my opinion this might be a very positive factor as it can create the opportunity for an increasing cooperation among TCs within IFIP. In the past of IFIP -- again in my opinion -- there hasn't been much cooperation even within the same TC. Given the current dynamics and trends of the scientific development, I think that we should not have closed groups but perhaps allowing some overlapping may be one of the driving forces to increase the dynamic cooperation among the various groups.
I would very much appreciate if you could spend some minutes on this issue and let me know your opinion about the subject.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
With best regards,
