TC6 members / WG chairmen
Earlier today, I received the e-mail below from Andrew Martin of Oxford University. (I've had no previous contact with him.)
Is anyone interested in Grid Computing and/or the Global Grid Forum? Does anyone think it relevant to any of our Working Groups? (As far as I can see it doesn't appear in any of the Working Groups aims and scopes.)
If you reply to me (to save filling up everybody's mailboxes), I'll put together a response to Andrew (which, of course, I'll copy to everyone).
Regards (and, if the wish is not too late, have a good week-end)
Peter

Hello,
I understand you are the UK representative for IFIP TC6. I'm writing to ask if you are aware of any interest in that community in the `Grid computing' paradigm.
You may know that the Grid/e-Science theme is presently receiving a great deal of UK and European funding, and gaining a great deal of interest and investment from companies such as IBM. I have just returned from a meeting of the Global Grid Forum (GGF4), which sees itself as a peer organisation to the IETF and W3C. I have been struck by how much that community appears to need input from the Software Engineering and/or computer science world. IFIP seems a likely framework for such input, and TC6 (WG 6.1, 6,2, 6.4 etc.) the most promising community.
No doubt I'm not the first to make that connection; can you direct me to any like-minded people? Looking at IFIP web pages, I can see much discussion of internet applications, but no mention of the Grid.
Thank you very much.
Best regards
Andrew. -- Andrew Martin. Oxford University Software Engineering Centre, Wolfson Building, Parks Road, Oxford. OX1 3QD Phone: (01865) 283605
