Dear Prof. Brunnstein,
Many thanks for your mail regarding hosting the IFIP World Computer Congress 2010 in India together with the traditional TC-6 conference "Networking".
The Computer Society of India will be honoured to get the opportunity to host the IFIP WCC in IFIP's 50th year, as also the TC-6 Networks Conference.
We have had many of our senior members working with IFIP and its TCs over these 50 years and we will marshal all our resources and the support of our government to make the World Computer Congress 2010 a grand success.
Professor S V Raghavan of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras will work with me and our Manager - Conference Management Services to prepare a formal bid for this purpose.
You will recall that I met you at the SEARCC EXCO at Sydney last year. We are happy to have your support; we will surely gear up to put up a good set of conferences / events.

India is on TOP GEAR right now. My colleagues in TC6 are extremely happy to be in India for WCC and Networking 2007. We hope to win the bid for 2010 for both events. Our President (CSI) has said that he will do all that is required to make it a memorable one.

After the Paris meeting, I have discussed the possibilities with President, Computer Society of India (CSI) and he conveyed that CSI supports this
idea.
Computer Society of India will be formally approaching IFIP GA and Council for WCC 2010 and I have been authorized to approach TC6 and the Working Group for Networking 2010. Our (CSI) Public Relations will make the Country
Presentation whenever it is scheduled.
The current thinking is that we will make it a unique showcasing experience of Technology, Service, and India. Perhaps, multiple locations, video
walls,
and immersion technologies!
Thank you very much for your offer to organise WCC 2010 and networking 2010 in India.
I have forwarded your request to Klaus brunnstein (IFIP president and chairman of the congress selection committee) and to Eduard Dundler (IFIP secretariat); both of them get a copy of tis message, too.
Eduard told me on the phone that exactly today the official procedure concerning bids for WCC 2010 will be started by informing the National Societies. Thus an official reply and a formal bid for WCC 2010 would have to come from the National GA Representative of India.
With respect to Networking 2010 the committee TC6 will discuss your request at the occasion of the next meeting in May 2007. As you know, Networking 2008 will be held in Asia already (Singapore), Networking 2009 is still open (maybe in London). There might be some discussion whether we should return to Asia just two years after 2008. But, personally I think that this would be a possible option. Another discussion point is that traditionally Networking XXXX is held in May whereas WCC YYYY must be held in end of August or in early September together with a IFIP GA Meeting. We would have to discuss with TC6 whether we go away from our traditional date and whether we want to combine Networking with WCC; here I see some potential for conflicting views. A last point is the weather situation in India during August/September; as you told me in Paris, there is still some heavy monsoon rain in some parts of the country during that time of the year; this would make the organisation of a large congress less convenient. On the other hand, you said that in some other parts of India the weather would be quite good at that time of the year. You didn't indicate a town where WCC 2010 should be held. So you see that this and other points deserve thorough discussion.
