WiMAX, the technology resulting from the work developed by IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN working groups, has attracted a lot of attention throughout the world
in the last few years. There is a great expectation that WiMAX will be the solution of choice to offer wireless broadband services both in fixed as well as in
mobile scenarios. Due to this great interest that is perceived in every segment of the communications community (industry, government
regulators and academia) the IEEE Communications Society has organized the very first IEEE Mobile WiMAX Symposium, as an extension of its successful
IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference – WCNC. This first event is being co-located with CTIA WIRELESS and this partnership creates
the expectation of attracting a significant level of participation from industry due to the timeliness and relevance of the topic.
The two-day program consists of two parallel tracks of technical sessions, totaling 28 high-quality papers, and four plenary sessions, featuring highly
reputable industrial leaders and researchers from all over the world. A wide range of interests are included in the program, including physical transmission
technology, medium access control, mobile (WiMAX) networking technology, multimedia applications and networks and state-of-the-art services scenarios.
We sincerely expect that by attending this symposium each participant will benefit from a complete experience on advances in mobile WiMAX.

A LICS'07 and ICALP'07 Affiliated Workshop on
FOUNDATIONS OF COMPUTER SECURITY
and
AUTOMATED REASONING FOR SECURITY PROTOCOL ANALYSIS
Wroclaw, Poland, July 8-9, 2007

*** FIRST ***
*** CALL FOR PAPERS ***
***********************
Submission deadline: April 15, 2007
BACKGROUND, AIM AND SCOPE
=========================
Computer security is an established field of computer science of both
theoretical and practical significance. In recent years, there has been
increasing interest in logic-based foundations for various methods in
computer security, including the formal specification, analysis and
design of security protocols and their applications, the formal
definition of various aspects of security such as access control
mechanisms, mobile code security and denial-of-service attacks, and the
modeling of information flow and its application to confidentiality
policies, system composition, and covert channel analysis.
The workshop FCS-ARSPA'07 is the second edition of the fusion of two
workshops: FCS and ARSPA, which joined forces in 2006 for FCS-ARSPA'06,
which was affiliated to LICS'06, in the context of FLoC'06.
The workshop FCS continues a tradition, initiated with the Workshops on
Formal Methods and Security Protocols (FMSP) in 1998 and 1999, then with
the Workshop on Formal Methods and Computer Security (FMCS) in 2000, and
finally with the LICS satellite Workshop on Foundations of Computer
Security (FCS) in 2002 through 2005, of bringing together formal methods
and the security community.
ARSPA is a series of workshops on Automated Reasoning for Security
Protocol Analysis, bringing together researchers and practitioners from
both the security and the formal methods communities, from academia and
industry, who are working on developing and applying automated reasoning
techniques and tools for the formal specification and analysis of
security protocols. The first two ARSPA workshops were held as satellite
events of the 2nd International Joint Conference on Automated Reasoning
(IJCAR'04) and of the 32nd International Colloquium on Automata,
Languages and Programming (ICALP'05), respectively.
The aim of the joint workshop FCS-ARSPA'07 is to provide a forum for
continued activity in these areas, to bring computer security
researchers in closer contact with the LICS and ICALP communities, and
to give LICS and ICALP attendees an opportunity to talk to experts in
computer security. We thus solicit submissions of papers both on mature
work and on work in progress.
We are interested both in new results in theories of computer security
and also in more exploratory presentations that examine open questions
and raise fundamental concerns about existing theories, as well as in
new results on developing and applying automated reasoning techniques
and tools for the formal specification and analysis of security
protocols.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
Automated reasoning techniques Access control and resource usage control
Composition issues Authentication
Formal specification Availability and denial of service
Foundations of verification Covert channels
Information flow analysis Confidentiality
Language-based security Integrity and privacy
Logic-based design for Intrusion detection
Program transformation Malicious code
Security models Mobile code
Static analysis Mutual distrust
Statistical methods Privacy
Tools Security policies
Trust management Security protocols
All submissions will be peer-reviewed. Authors of accepted papers must
guarantee that their paper will be presented at the workshop.

IPSN 2007 Workshop
Data Sharing and Interoperability on the World-wide Sensor Web (DSI'07)
April 24, 2007, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
(co-located with IPSN 2007, http://www.cse.wustl.edu/~lu/ipsn07.html)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last five years, the research community supporting embedded
sensing has benefited from the experiences of numerous real-world
deployments. Actual scientific applications are on the rise, and a
number of new environmental observatories are moving from planning to
implementation (NEON, WATERS). In parallel, we have seen an expansion
in the use smartphones and other consumer devices, supported by the
cellular network and capable of capturing acoustics and images,
creating a host of citizen-initiated sensing projects (e.g.,
videothevote.org).
While many algorithms for networking and control of embedded sensing
platforms anticipate within-deployment scaling of observational
resources, the introduction of diverse environmental observatories and
the variety of new urban applications suggests that interoperability,
and for the purpose of this workshop the ``sharing" of data and
models, represents another, equally important, kind of scaling. In
this workshop, we focus directly on the implications of widely shared
sensor data, models and algorithms, and the systems that might support
this.
Simply put, data is the raison d'etre of any sensing exercise. While
few researchers in the field would argue the point, too much attention
has been paid to the networking of distributed sensing and not enough
emphasis has been placed on the tools to manage, share, analyze, and
understand the data. Hosted in coordination with IPSN (emphasizing
algorithms for communications, coding theory, and distributed
estimation) and SPOTS (focusing on hardware and complete platforms),
this workshop will examine the various uses of data associated with
embedded sensing.
Topics of interest (but not limited to):
- Data interoperability
- Data Semantics
- Extracting information from data and sensor data fusion
- Managing data uncertainty
- Systems for data integrity
- Modeling sensor data
- Managing spatial and temporal data (e.g., indexing, caching,
query processing, etc.)
- Automated or semi-automated processing of ad-hoc sensor data
- Architecture to connect multiple sensor deployments together
- Data visualization
- Mash-up applications (the ability to pull in data/tools from
multiple places and render it at a client) and workflows

13th EUNICE Open European Summer School and IFIP TC6.6 Workshop on
Dependable and Adaptable Networks and Services
July 18 – 20, 2007
University of Twente, the Netherlands
http://www.ctit.utwente.nl/eunice2007
Purpose
-------
The EUNICE network (http://www.eunice-forum.org/) has been created to
foster the mobility of students, faculty members and research scientists
working in the field of information and communication technologies and
to promote educational and research cooperation between its member
institutions. The main goal of the EUNICE Summer School is to give
researchers and particularly Ph.D. students the opportunity to present
their work at an international level. In addition to the research paper
presentations, a number of tutorials or invited talks, presented by
experts in the field, will be given.
Call for Contributions
----------------------
One of the main challenges in the next decade will be to make the
Internet and the services that are provided on top of it more dependable
and adaptable. Research on these themes is needed for fixed, wireless
and ad-hoc networking, ubiquitous communication and computing, sensor
networks, and context-awareness. While individual mobile applications
with context-aware and personalize features emerged, at the same time
many challenges for network and service architectures were imposed
concerning integration, interoperability, management, provisioning,
reliability and security. On the one hand research has to build up a
sound understanding of these applications and their supporting service
and network architectures. On the other hand, the service and network
infrastructure needs to be able to provide the necessary quality of
service for the envisioned applications.
Although the EUNICE summer school is open to researchers from any
institution, we particularly invite PhD students from EUNICE member
institutes and from European Network of Excellence projects in this
field, such as EMANICS and Euro-NGI to contribute with original submissions.
The topics of interest include:
- Middleware for mobile and pervasive computing
- Context awareness and personalized services
- Service discovery, mediation and composition
- Security, trust, access control and authorization in ubiquitous computing
- Adaptive applications and architectures
- Service oriented architectures, web services and semantic web
- Service technologies and platforms
- Service design and creation methodologies
- Self-organizing networks and service infrastructures
- Management models and architectures
- Network and service provisioning, reliability and quality assurance
- Management technologies and platforms
- Wireless and mobile computing
- Peer to peer networks and applications'
- Ad-hoc and personal networks
- Business integration and service architectures
- Business-software alignment and traceability
Types of Contribution and Submission Guidelines
-----------------------------------------------
Regular Contributions: Authors are invited to submit original papers,
which will be reviewed for presentation and publication in the
proceedings of the Summer School. Submission details, including an
author kit, are available at:

**********************************************************************
Wireless Internet is quickly becoming a reality thanks to fast
evolution of various wireless access technologies. Convergence of
heterogeneous wireless networks, enabled by interworking and wireless
mesh networking technologies, further brings wireless Internet into
various application scenarios. On the other hand, new wireless
Internet architectures, services, and solutions are still desired in
order to achieve the ultimate goal of wireless Internet access anytime
anywhere.
The Wireless Internet Conference (WICON) will continue to provide a
premier international forum to discuss novel research results related
to the emerging Wireless Internet. The focus of WICON 2007 will be on
advanced wireless access technologies, wireless mesh networks,
interworking of heterogeneous networks, next generation wireless
Internet, and industrial practice methodology. Given the existence of
many other conferences on mobile ad hoc networks and sensor networks,
papers that are oriented to these networks are discouraged unless
they directly focus on the conference theme of the Wireless Internet.
WICON 2007 is soliciting both academic research and industry practice
papers. Industry practice papers must have at least one author from
industry and should describe interesting technical aspects of
industrial applications, prototypes, experiences, and standards;
performance and design details are encouraged, whereas papers focused
on marketing or product information will not be accepted. Topics of
interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

Call for Papers
AD HOC NETWORKS JOURNAL (ELSEVIER)
Special Issue on
BIO-INSPIRED COMPUTING AND COMMUNICATION IN
WIRELESS AD HOC AND SENSOR NETWORKS
Submission deadline: February 28, 2007
_____________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________
A wide spectrum of applications and services is currently being
developed and designed to be built on top of various heterogeneous
and significantly challenging network architectures such as wireless
mesh, mobile ad hoc and wireless sensor/actor networks. These
heterogeneous wireless communication architectures are mainly
characterized by heterogeneous and resource-constrained nodes,
restricted communication channels, highly dynamic environments, lack of
any fixed infrastructure, and large scale network deployments that
strongly vary in their density. These features and challenges,in turn,
mandate intelligent, adaptive, autonomic,coordinated,self-organizing,
and efficient processing and communication approaches to handle the
complexity of these ambitious wireless systems.
The turn to nature has brought us many unforeseen great concepts.
Natural biological systems intrinsically possess and exploit similar
features by providing elegant and extremely efficient solutions for
the challenges and tasks faced in their natural operation. It is of
extreme importance to bridge the communication technologies with
biological sciences and capture the analogy between these two
distinct disciplines. To this end, solution strategies inspired by
the biological systems have been recently proposed to address the
challenges of many computing and communication systems.
This special issue is dedicated to capture the state-of-the-art and
the recent advances in the area of biologically-inspired computing
and communication in heterogeneous wireless architectures such as
wireless mesh networks, mobile ad hoc networks, and wireless sensor
and actor networks. Papers describing mathematical models, algorithms,
protocols, tools, evaluation methods, and experimental studies of
computing and communication architectures that are inspired by and
derived from biological systems are solicited for this special issue.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* Bio-inspired mathematical models, methods and tools
* Biological and bio-inspired computing, data processing algorithms
* Joint bio-inspired data processing and communication
* Embryonics-based fault-tolerant computing and communication
* Bio-inspired network and communication algorithms and protocols
* Novel applications and services inspired by biological systems
* Experimental studies of bio-inspired computing and communications
* Bio-inspired topology control and network reconfiguration methods
* Bio-inspired localization, synchronization, mobility approaches
* Evolution and self-healing of network architectures and protocols
* Immune and self-healing network defense and information security
* Bio-inspired nano-scale and molecular computing and communication
* Bio-inspired distributed control and sensing of networked wearable
and implantable medical devices
