Dear Otto,
In our last meeting in Coimbra I was committed to contact Josep Sole Pareta
in order to know his ideas about how to re-launch WG6.10.
I have had several phone talks with him. Between these talks he has met
Iannis Tomkos (the person who won the election as Vice-Chairman).
They work together, as well as with some other members of WG6.10 and
involved in the organization of ONDM. Also they cooperate in the Network of
Excellence E-Photon-1 dedicated to the optical and photonic networking.
They are ready to take profit of all these synergies to relaunch WG6.10.
I have explained some inconveniences of the current organization of ONDM
(no ERF, no steering committee, etc.). They were not aware of this
administrative/organizational aspects of IFIP conferences. I have suggested
him to look at our web page our event organizer manual.
Also, both Iannis and Josep, are ready to attend our next meeting in Paris
and explain their plans for transforming the almost death WG6.10 into a
real Working Group.
Although during our meeting in Coimbra I was yet sick (remember my
panchreatitis) I think I have filled the commitment I received.
If you need any other information, do not hesitate to contact me. I will
try to enhance the information.
Best regards
Ramon

Dear Otto,
In our last meeting in Coimbra we discussed about possible candidates to
the chairmanship of WG6.8.
Let me propose a new candidate: Pedro Cuenca from the Universidad de
Castilla-La Mancha.
He is young (remember my idea of new blood) and active. Currently he is
organizing the PWC 2006. So, this means he is well integrated in the WG6.8
activities.
If you consider that he coan be a good candidate I will send you all the
information you request. Do not hesitate to ask me about him.
Best regards
Ramon

International Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Multimedia Computing
(ParDMCom-06)
http://multimedia.ucc.ie/ParDMCom/
in conjunction with the International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed
Processing and Application (ISPA-06) ,Sorrento, Italy, December 1-4, 2006
========================================================================
DESCRIPTION
--------------
For the last decades Multimedia computing has emerged as an important
technology to generate content based on images, video, audio, graphics,
and text. Furthermore, the recent new development represented by High
Definition and Interactive television will generate important computing
problems connected with the creation, processing and management of
Multimedia content. Dealing with HD Multimedia content (image, video and
sound) will generate a huge volume of data to process which can lead in
a natural way to parallel and distributed computing. Moreover, the
inherent data parallelism of Multimedia content data makes this type of
computing a natural application area for parallel and distributed
processing.
This workshop aims to merge the recent research achievements in
developing new theories, algorithms, architectures, systems and
integrated multimedia platforms that exploit parallel and distributed
computing.
TOPICS OF INTEREST (but not limited to the following):
------------------------------------------------------
- Parallel and distributed algorithms for multimedia.
- Parallel and distributed architectures for multimedia.
- Parallel multimedia computing servers.
- Multimedia content creation, processing, and management using
parallel and distributed architectures.
- Parallel processing architectures of multimedia set-top boxes.
- Multimedia agent technology and parallel processing.
IMPORTANT DATES:

Submission Deadline: August 1, 2006
Notification: Sep 1, 2006
Final Copy Due: Sep 20, 2006
SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION

Authors should prepare the manuscript with no more than 15 pages in PDF file

Dear friends,
In my last message called "precaution" I announced that I had a hepatitis.
This information was wrong. Really I had a panchratitis without any risk
of contagion. I am giving this information for your tranquility.
I have been a week in the hospital but since last Monday (June 5) I am
at home and step by step I am recovering my good shape.
Best regards

Dear all,
Samir Tohme (the French delegate to TC6) has informed me that he
wants to resign due to his health problems which make longer
trips difficult or impossible for him. (See below).
This decision is very regrettable but what can we do?
Jean-Claude Laprie (the French representative in IFIP GA)
has nominated Guy PUJOLLE (chairman of WG 6.2) as his successor.
Guy has already accepted the nomination.
Welcome Guy in your new function! We look very much forward
towards further good cooperation. Do you have any ideas already who could
take over the chairmanship of WG 6.2.? (Since your term would have come
near to its end anyway).
And for you, Samir: We deeply regret that you cannot be
any longer the French delegate to TC6. My suggestion is that you
attend if possible our next meeting in Paris (September 29+30
in Paris) in order to make an official and nice farewell. We promise
to make a particuler event for you at this occasion.
Thank you very much for your contributions in the last 15 years.
We'll stay in contact!
Best regards
Otto

Message received from Samir Tohme
(if necessary, we can translate it to Englsih language):
Cher Otto
Amities
Samir
