A LICS'07 and ICALP'07 Affiliated Workshop on
FOUNDATIONS OF COMPUTER SECURITY
and
AUTOMATED REASONING FOR SECURITY PROTOCOL ANALYSIS
Wroclaw, Poland, July 8-9, 2007
http://profs.sci.univr.it/~vigano/fcs-arspa07

*** FIRST ***
*** CALL FOR PAPERS ***
***********************
Submission deadline: April 15, 2007
BACKGROUND, AIM AND SCOPE
=========================
Computer security is an established field of computer science of both
theoretical and practical significance. In recent years, there has been
increasing interest in logic-based foundations for various methods in
computer security, including the formal specification, analysis and
design of security protocols and their applications, the formal
definition of various aspects of security such as access control
mechanisms, mobile code security and denial-of-service attacks, and the
modeling of information flow and its application to confidentiality
policies, system composition, and covert channel analysis.
The workshop FCS-ARSPA'07 is the second edition of the fusion of two
workshops: FCS and ARSPA, which joined forces in 2006 for FCS-ARSPA'06,
which was affiliated to LICS'06, in the context of FLoC'06.
The workshop FCS continues a tradition, initiated with the Workshops on
Formal Methods and Security Protocols (FMSP) in 1998 and 1999, then with
the Workshop on Formal Methods and Computer Security (FMCS) in 2000, and
finally with the LICS satellite Workshop on Foundations of Computer
Security (FCS) in 2002 through 2005, of bringing together formal methods
and the security community.
ARSPA is a series of workshops on Automated Reasoning for Security
Protocol Analysis, bringing together researchers and practitioners from
both the security and the formal methods communities, from academia and
industry, who are working on developing and applying automated reasoning
techniques and tools for the formal specification and analysis of
security protocols. The first two ARSPA workshops were held as satellite
events of the 2nd International Joint Conference on Automated Reasoning
(IJCAR'04) and of the 32nd International Colloquium on Automata,
Languages and Programming (ICALP'05), respectively.
The aim of the joint workshop FCS-ARSPA'07 is to provide a forum for
continued activity in these areas, to bring computer security
researchers in closer contact with the LICS and ICALP communities, and
to give LICS and ICALP attendees an opportunity to talk to experts in
computer security. We thus solicit submissions of papers both on mature
work and on work in progress.
We are interested both in new results in theories of computer security
and also in more exploratory presentations that examine open questions
and raise fundamental concerns about existing theories, as well as in
new results on developing and applying automated reasoning techniques
and tools for the formal specification and analysis of security
protocols.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
Automated reasoning techniques Access control and resource usage control
Composition issues Authentication
Formal specification Availability and denial of service
Foundations of verification Covert channels
Information flow analysis Confidentiality
Language-based security Integrity and privacy
Logic-based design for Intrusion detection
Program transformation Malicious code
Security models Mobile code
Static analysis Mutual distrust
Statistical methods Privacy
Tools Security policies
Trust management Security protocols
All submissions will be peer-reviewed. Authors of accepted papers must
guarantee that their paper will be presented at the workshop.

IPSN 2007 Workshop
Data Sharing and Interoperability on the World-wide Sensor Web (DSI'07)
April 24, 2007, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
(co-located with IPSN 2007, http://www.cse.wustl.edu/~lu/ipsn07.html)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last five years, the research community supporting embedded
sensing has benefited from the experiences of numerous real-world
deployments. Actual scientific applications are on the rise, and a
number of new environmental observatories are moving from planning to
implementation (NEON, WATERS). In parallel, we have seen an expansion
in the use smartphones and other consumer devices, supported by the
cellular network and capable of capturing acoustics and images,
creating a host of citizen-initiated sensing projects (e.g.,
videothevote.org).
While many algorithms for networking and control of embedded sensing
platforms anticipate within-deployment scaling of observational
resources, the introduction of diverse environmental observatories and
the variety of new urban applications suggests that interoperability,
and for the purpose of this workshop the ``sharing" of data and
models, represents another, equally important, kind of scaling. In
this workshop, we focus directly on the implications of widely shared
sensor data, models and algorithms, and the systems that might support
this.
Simply put, data is the raison d'etre of any sensing exercise. While
few researchers in the field would argue the point, too much attention
has been paid to the networking of distributed sensing and not enough
emphasis has been placed on the tools to manage, share, analyze, and
understand the data. Hosted in coordination with IPSN (emphasizing
algorithms for communications, coding theory, and distributed
estimation) and SPOTS (focusing on hardware and complete platforms),
this workshop will examine the various uses of data associated with
embedded sensing.
Topics of interest (but not limited to):
- Data interoperability
- Data Semantics
- Extracting information from data and sensor data fusion
- Managing data uncertainty
- Systems for data integrity
- Modeling sensor data
- Managing spatial and temporal data (e.g., indexing, caching,
query processing, etc.)
- Automated or semi-automated processing of ad-hoc sensor data
- Architecture to connect multiple sensor deployments together
- Data visualization
- Mash-up applications (the ability to pull in data/tools from
multiple places and render it at a client) and workflows

many challenges for network and service architectures were imposed
concerning integration, interoperability, management, provisioning,
reliability and security. On the one hand research has to build up a
sound understanding of these applications and their supporting service
and network architectures. On the other hand, the service and network
infrastructure needs to be able to provide the necessary quality of
service for the envisioned applications.
Although the EUNICE summer school is open to researchers from any
institution, we particularly invite PhD students from EUNICE member
institutes and from European Network of Excellence projects in this
field, such as EMANICS and Euro-NGI to contribute with original submissions.
The topics of interest include:

A wide spectrum of applications and services is currently being
developed and designed to be built on top of various heterogeneous
and significantly challenging network architectures such as wireless
mesh, mobile ad hoc and wireless sensor/actor networks. These
heterogeneous wireless communication architectures are mainly
characterized by heterogeneous and resource-constrained nodes,
restricted communication channels, highly dynamic environments, lack of
any fixed infrastructure, and large scale network deployments that
strongly vary in their density. These features and challenges,in turn,
mandate intelligent, adaptive, autonomic,coordinated,self-organizing,
and efficient processing and communication approaches to handle the
complexity of these ambitious wireless systems.
The turn to nature has brought us many unforeseen great concepts.
Natural biological systems intrinsically possess and exploit similar
features by providing elegant and extremely efficient solutions for
the challenges and tasks faced in their natural operation. It is of
extreme importance to bridge the communication technologies with
biological sciences and capture the analogy between these two
distinct disciplines. To this end, solution strategies inspired by
the biological systems have been recently proposed to address the
challenges of many computing and communication systems.

the recent advances in the area of biologically-inspired computing
and communication in heterogeneous wireless architectures such as
wireless mesh networks, mobile ad hoc networks, and wireless sensor
and actor networks. Papers describing mathematical models, algorithms,
protocols, tools, evaluation methods, and experimental studies of
computing and communication architectures that are inspired by and
derived from biological systems are solicited for this special issue.

CALL FOR PAPERS
First International Workshop on
Mobile Opportunistic Networking
MobiOpp 2007
sponsored by ACM/SIGMOBILE
in conjunction with ACM MobiSys 2007
http://cnd.iit.cnr.it/mobiopp07
jointly organized by
IIT-CNR, Italy
UCLA, USA
June 11, 2007
Puerto Rico, USA
Opportunistic Networks are one of the most exciting evolutions of the legacy
Mobile Ad hoc Networking (MANET) paradigm, in which the assumption of
complete paths between data senders and receivers is released. Opportunistic
Networks enable users' communication in disconnected environments, in which
island of connected devices appear, disappear, and reconfigure dynamically.
The network is thus extremely dynamic, and is formed by the evolving
contacts among mobile devices, and among connected clouds of devices. In
this view, legacy-Internet connectivity is just a particular connectivity
opportunity. Opportunistic Networks thus encompass the features and methods
of delay or disruption tolerant networks (DTN). They are very suitable to
support the pervasive networking scenario, in which a huge number of devices
carried by users and embedded in the environment communicate wirelessly
without requiring any pre-existing infrastructure. By enabling end-to-end
communication without requiring complete paths, Opportunistic Networks are
much closer to real pervasive networking scenarios, with respect to the
legacy MANET paradigm.
Original contributions are solicited, related to systems and protocols
design, development and analysis, in all areas related to Opportunistic
Networking. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Architectures for opportunistic networks
* (Killer) applications for opportunistic networks
* Middleware services in opportunistic networks
* Dissemination and replication techniques for opportunistic networks
* Resource management techniques for opportunistic networks
* Transport and reliability issues in opportunistic networks
* Routing issues in opportunistic networks
* Wireless link design and optimisation for opportunistic networks
* Opportunistic Networking in Wireless Sensor Networks
* Security issues in opportunistic networks
* Trust and cooperation in opportunistic networks
* Mobility models for opportunistic networks
* Tools and techniques for designing, analyzing and building opp. networks
* Opportunistic networks testbeds and measurements
* Opportunistic networks performance modeling
