Second IEEE Workshop on Networking Technologies for
Software Defined Radio (SDR) Networks
(Held in Conjunction with IEEE SECON 2007)
June 18, 2007, San Diego, California, USA
http://www.winlab.rutgers.edu/~wenyuan/sdr07/index.htm
Wireless systems have historically operated in relatively static frequency bands allocated to a single type of service. This compartmentalization of spectrum offered few incentives for common designs across frequency bands and limited opportunities for dynamic spectrum sharing. More recently, there has been a push to make more spectrum available, and in response there has been significant research towards developing new classes of cognitive radios and their associated protocols. Cognitive radios (CRs), or more generally software defined radios (SDRs), can tune their communication stack to take advantage of spectrum opportunities, adapt to a wide variety of radio interference conditions, and employ protocols that allow for collaboration between previously incompatible technologies. Dynamic physical layer adaptation is achieved by scanning available spectrum, selection from a wide range of operating frequencies, rapid adjustment of modulation waveforms and adaptive power co!
ntrol. A suitably designed cognitive radio with a software-defined physical layer would be capable of collaborating with neighboring radios to ameliorate interference using higher-layer protocols. These higher layer coordination protocols could range from etiquette mechanisms to fully collaborative multi-hop forwarding. The potential impact of cognitive radios upon both commercial and military wireless communications is great as they cou
allow for improved spectrum utilization and improved interoperability between wireless data standards.
The workshop builds upon the success of the First IEEE Workshop on Networking Technologies for Software Defined Radio (SDR) Networks. Although the potential for CR/SDR platforms is great, there remains a need for developing, testing, and prototyping the protocols that will allow the CR platforms to achieve their promise. The purpose of this workshop is to facilitate the exchange of cutting-edge research in cognitive radio and software defined radio technologies. The focus of this workshop is to explore the underlying networking and communication protocols needed to facilitate the interconnection of CR/SDR platforms. Since CR/SDR research is taking place across multiple communities, ranging from academic to government to industry, from physical layer to networking to hardware researchers, we intend for this workshop to serve as a forum for cross-pollination and collaboration that will accelerate the deployment and eventual success of CR/SDR platforms.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The goal of IFIP International Conference on Network and Parallel Computing (NPC 2007) is to establish an international forum for researchers and practitioners to present their excellent ideas and experiences in all system fields of network and parallel computing. NPC 2007 will be held in Dalian, China. You can find more information from the conference homepage (http://www.dlmu.edu.cn/npc2007/).
PAPER Submission Guidelines
Papers are solicited reporting original results and experience. Papers must be clearly presented in English, must not exceed 15 pages, including tables and figures, with PDF, PostScript, or MS Word format, and the work must not be published or submitted for publication elsewhere. new applications and techniques, practical implementations, military,
industrial and commercial developments, research testbeds and
demonstrations, recent research/implementation results, upcoming
research challenges, future directions, and novel approaches in the
fields of sensor, mesh and ad hoc communications and networks. One of
the key goals of this conference is to foster collaboration between
industry, government agencies and academia. Hence, participation of
researchers/developers from industry or governement agencies and
posters/demonstrations reporting joint work are especially encouraged.
Topics considered for posters and demo include but are not limited
to:
* New architectures and protocols to support
communication, localization, time synchronization,
routing, data dissemination, and other distributed

mesh networks and sensor networks
* Novel algorithms and theories for management,
supervisory control, and monitoring of distributed ad
hoc networks, and techniques for the interpretation
and use of sensor data in decision-making processes

Submissions should be in the form of an abstract describing the main
contributions of the poster/demo. If available, preliminary results
can also be included. Abstracts will be evaluated mainly based on
their potential to stimulate interesting discussions, exchange of
ideas and promote collaborations. Accepted abstracts will be
published in IEEE Xplore.
Up to three best posters will be given the opportunity to be presented
at the main conference. There will also be a best demo award and
a best poster award judged by a panel of academic and/or venture
capital participants.
Submissions should not be more than three pages (preferably IEEE
conference format, 2-column) in length. Demonstration submissions
should include the space requirements and/or any other
equipment-specific requirements. The documents must contain the
authors' names, affiliations, and contact information and the
designated corresponding author.
Accepted authors of posters/demos will have a space in the poster/demo
session room to display their posters or exhibit their demos and
describe their work in discussions with interested attendees.
IEEE Communications Society policy states that all accepted SECON 2007
posters/demos must have at least one registration at the regular
rate. For authors co-authoring multiple posters/demos, one regular
registration is valid for up to three presentations.
Submission will be accepted until 3/29/2007, 5 pm EDT for
demos and for posters. Please send the submission material to the
poster/demo chairs in pdf format, and make sure to include the first
