First IEEE WoWMoM Workshop on Adaptive and DependAble
Mission- and bUsiness-critical Mobile Systems
ADAMUS 2007
In conjunction with the 8th Int. Symposium on a World of Wireless,
Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM'07)
Helsinki, Finland, 18th June, 2007
( WoWMoM web site : http://ieee-wowmom.tml.hut.fi/

WORKSHOP SCOPE
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A truly extended use of mobile computing technologies asks for effective
software engineering techniques to design, develop and maintain mission-
and business-critical applications over mobile environments.
In recent years, we witnessed an increasing demand for mission- and
business-critical applications over mobile environments. To overcome the
intrinsic limitations of mobile devices and environments, a variety of
research studies have produced a plethora of methods and proof-of-concept
prototypes for supporting non-critical applications. However, it is still
unclear whether current technologies, methods, and solutions can satisfy
the challenging adaptability and dependability requirements of the emerging
mobile mission- and business- critical systems and applications, such as
mobile commerce, wireless control of robots, healthcare computing, and
video-surveillance.
To be effective, these applications must endorse provisions that allow them
to continue the optimal distribution of their service despite the
occurrence
of potentially significant and sudden changes or faults in their
infrastructure and the surrounding environment. Hence, it is becoming
increasingly important: to devise conceptual models and paradigms able to
mange and to express strategies and provisions for change tolerance and for
cross-layer adaptation; to propose mechanisms to model, design, and develop
adaptive and dependable systems; to provide analytical and simulation tools
to measure a system's ability to withstand faults and optimally re-adjust
to new environments; to develop design-/run-time solutions to identify and
enforce optimal trade-offs between energy consumption, performance, safety,
and security.
The main goal of this first workshop is that of fostering exchange of ideas
and lively discussions to reduce the gap between research achievements and
industrial applications in the field of adaptive and dependable mission-
and business- critical mobile systems and applications.
Researchers and practitioners from the academia and the industry are
encouraged to participate. High quality papers able to identify open issues,
to discuss the limits and/or advantages of existing solutions, or to
propose
original and innovative techniques for adaptive and dependable mission- and
business-critical applications over mobile environments are solicited for
submission. The main topics of the workshop include, but are not limited to:
* Dependability and real-time adaptation requirements for mobile systems

CALL FOR PAPERS
First International Workshop on
Mobile Opportunistic Networking
MobiOpp 2007
sponsored by ACM/SIGMOBILE
in conjunction with ACM MobiSys 2007
http://cnd.iit.cnr.it/mobiopp07
jointly organized by
IIT-CNR, Italy
UCLA, USA
June 11, 2007
Puerto Rico, USA
Opportunistic Networks are one of the most exciting evolutions of the legacy
Mobile Ad hoc Networking (MANET) paradigm, in which the assumption of
complete paths between data senders and receivers is released. Opportunistic
Networks enable users' communication in disconnected environments, in which
island of connected devices appear, disappear, and reconfigure dynamically.
The network is thus extremely dynamic, and is formed by the evolving
contacts among mobile devices, and among connected clouds of devices. In
this view, legacy-Internet connectivity is just a particular connectivity
opportunity. Opportunistic Networks thus encompass the features and methods
of delay or disruption tolerant networks (DTN). They are very suitable to
support the pervasive networking scenario, in which a huge number of devices
carried by users and embedded in the environment communicate wirelessly
without requiring any pre-existing infrastructure. By enabling end-to-end
communication without requiring complete paths, Opportunistic Networks are
much closer to real pervasive networking scenarios, with respect to the
legacy MANET paradigm.
Original contributions are solicited, related to systems and protocols
design, development and analysis, in all areas related to Opportunistic
Networking. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

*Industry Session Papers*

*IEEE WoWMoM 2007*
June 18-21, 2007 - Helsinki, Finland
http://ieee-wowmom.tml.hut.fi
====================================================================
*FINAL Call for Papers*
Extended Deadline *Feb. 18* (extensions on case-by-case basis)
====================================================================
IEEE WoWMoM 2007 (http://ieee-wowmom.tml.hut.fi/) is one of the leading
international conferences for networking, software systems and
multimedia research in the wireless/mobile area involving both computer
science and electrical engineering communities. The 8th edition of the
WoWMoM conference is being held from June 18-21, 2007 in Helsinki, Finland.
As part of an expanded involvement of industry researchers and
professionals, WoWMoM 2007 is planning to organize a one-day *Industry
Session*. Accordingly, the Industry session program committee is
soliciting submissions of papers for this specially designated track,
specifically targeting specific commercial applications of the following
(non-exhaustive) research areas:
* Middleware support for mobile multimedia
* Mobile content distribution and authorization
* Presence-awareness and multimedia signaling in provider networks
* Service creation and provisioning for mobile applications
* Broadcast/Multicast based applications and architectures
* Power control and energy-efficient
systems for pervasive communication
* RFID/sensor applications in enterprise and provider networks
* Innovative methods for charging/billing
* Fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) systems
* Network simulation and validation tools
The Industry Session track is intended to specially highlight system
experiences and
proofs-of-concept in the areas of wireless communication and multimedia
applications. We
emphasize that submissions must still be ``research papers’’—in other
words, articles merely describing product-specific features or
implementation details are NOT being solicited. Like regular papers, the
“industry session” papers will undergo a review process by an
international TPC and will appear in the conference proceedings.
However, the selection criteria for “industry session” papers are
slightly different. In
particular, papers should describe applications, prototypes or
experiences of clear industry relevance. Papers with narrow algorithmic
focus, marketing focus or only high-level design details are
discouraged. A key goal of these sessions is to present systems-oriented
research that exposes the academic and research communities to
“real-life” issues and problems being faced in industry. Accordingly,
papers will be evaluated, less on the novelty of specific algorithmic
content, but by the originality and general applicability of insights
that can be inferred from the authors’ implementation experience.
Some details on the requirements and deadlines for this “track” are:
*) Papers must be submitted in PDF format via the EDAS Website:
http://edas.info/5197.
Paper should be in double-column, 10pt IEEE format and no longer than 8
pages. (Details on formatting are available at:
http://ieee-wowmom.tml.hut.fi/authorinfo.html).
*) Deadlines:
Extended Deadine: *** February 18, 2007 ***
Paper submission (via EDAS)
(Extensions to the Feb 18 deadline will be granted on a case-by-case
basis--to avail of this extension, you MUST email a request for
extension to the chairs ** BEFORE Feb 18 **).
Reviews available: March 12, 2007
Final manuscripts due: April 6, 2007.
More details on the committee/topics for “industry sessions” and
up-to-date submission
deadlines etc. are available at:
http://ieee-wowmom.tml.hut.fi/industry.html.

IPSN 2007 Workshop
Data Sharing and Interoperability on the World-wide Sensor Web (DSI'07)
April 24, 2007, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
(co-located with IPSN 2007, http://www.cse.wustl.edu/~lu/ipsn07.html)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last five years, the research community supporting embedded
sensing has benefited from the experiences of numerous real-world
deployments. Actual scientific applications are on the rise, and a
number of new environmental observatories are moving from planning to
implementation (NEON, WATERS). In parallel, we have seen an expansion
in the use smartphones and other consumer devices, supported by the
cellular network and capable of capturing acoustics and images,
creating a host of citizen-initiated sensing projects (e.g.,
videothevote.org).
While many algorithms for networking and control of embedded sensing
platforms anticipate within-deployment scaling of observational
resources, the introduction of diverse environmental observatories and
the variety of new urban applications suggests that interoperability,
and for the purpose of this workshop the ``sharing" of data and
models, represents another, equally important, kind of scaling. In
this workshop, we focus directly on the implications of widely shared
sensor data, models and algorithms, and the systems that might support
this.
Simply put, data is the raison d'etre of any sensing exercise. While
few researchers in the field would argue the point, too much attention
has been paid to the networking of distributed sensing and not enough
emphasis has been placed on the tools to manage, share, analyze, and
understand the data. Hosted in coordination with IPSN (emphasizing
algorithms for communications, coding theory, and distributed
estimation) and SPOTS (focusing on hardware and complete platforms),
this workshop will examine the various uses of data associated with
embedded sensing.
Topics of interest (but not limited to):
- Data interoperability
- Data Semantics
- Extracting information from data and sensor data fusion
- Managing data uncertainty
- Systems for data integrity
- Modeling sensor data
- Managing spatial and temporal data (e.g., indexing, caching,
query processing, etc.)
- Automated or semi-automated processing of ad-hoc sensor data
- Architecture to connect multiple sensor deployments together
- Data visualization
- Mash-up applications (the ability to pull in data/tools from
multiple places and render it at a client) and workflows
