But wouldn't that remove the html-data? That's not an option over here
I'm afraid.

Hi,
We run aprox. 600 mailinglists using smartlist.
Now occasionally we have the problem that if someone sends a short html
e-mail message, they get returned with an "unprocessed" x-diagnostic.
What can I do to fix this problem?

Hi
Without explaining here (see below) I would like to remove the
"X-Message-Info" and the "Received: " fields from mail sent to a list.
I have managed to remove the X-Sender and X-Originating-Email by editing the
rc.submit/rc.local.s20 but using the same technique foe the other fields
does not work.
I have the following in the rc.local.s20 file:
:0 fhw
| formail -IX-Message-Info: -IReceived -IX-Sender:
-IX-Originating-Email:
Can someone advise how I might do this?
========================
Now if you want to know why I want to do this its not some sinister hack,
actually quite simple.
I maintain several email lists totalling about 70,000 names and it is a
hazard that some people get on the list by accident. I always provide for
unsubscribing and as a very public figure (I am a member of the Parliament
in my country) I am aware of the SPAM implications.
However because I travel so much I redirect all my email from various
accounts to a Hotmail Premium account which allows me to use Outlook to
manage the address database and also to send and receive hundreds of emails
daily from anywhere and on any internet connection.
Also I can use Frontpage to construct "nice" email newsletters which then
uses Outlook to send them to the list via my Hotmail account. So far so
good!
However it only takes 3 (I repeat just 3 people!) to complain to Hotmail
about SPAM and they will shutdown your account AUTOMATICALLY without any
contact or question even though you are a paying premium customer!
So I am happy for people to contact me to either abuse me and/or to ask for
removal from the list however I want to hide the fact that the original
email was sent via my Hotmail account and the headers of the newsletter
still have the header information like this:
X-Message-Info: txF49lGdW41bSEufHX0Z8j6mSUSlMGNAGUJvcjBa8gk=
Received: from host.our-web-host.com ([209.239.36.67]) by
bay0-mc12-f19.bay0.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.1830);

As you can see from the above rc.local.s20 file these headers stay in!
thanks

To download SmartList addons (e.g. the confirm package) it's the best to do
it over http
http://www.pure.ch/pub/smartlist/
The ftp-URL mentioned in the FAQ doesn't work with user anonymous. The
FAQ should be updated.

I have used SmartList for many years now for various mailing lists.
Recently I set up a new list and all of a sudden I have a bunch
of AOL users complaining they can't see the attachments. I think
it is mainly digest mode users but it is regular mode users too.
I run other lists from the same server and the AOL users there
have no problems - at least that they have reported to me.
Here's a sample user complaint:

Hi all,
I just signed back on to the ____ List. But, I have aol, and it doesn't
read MIME, and I am not getting pictures. I get the messages, but twice. One
is regular, and the 2nd is with lots of numbers and symbols added in.
Pictures just make the page turquoise, and with lots of letters, numbers and symbols
- and very long - like 10 pages.

Has anyone else seen these types of problems? Anyone have a solution?
TIA,
Terry Todd
hi Jon,
I'm not sure whether this could help, but some of the lists I am
subscribed to, send periodically an email to all subscriptors, reminding
them that they are subscribed and how to unsubscribe.
You could use a simple shell script to do the job. It should send a
customized message to each address in your list, and the message should
include the subscribed address (ie, the one in your list) and a note
instructing the user to bounce back the message in case they cannot
unsubscribe by themselves. That way you should know which address to
remove.

Hi People
I use Smartlist to maintain a large list for newsletters. However because of
mail forwarding some recipients cannot get off the list automatically and I
cannot figure out how they got the email.
How can I customise each email with the original recipient in the email so I
can remove them manually?
I presume that I have to add a custom footer in rc.local.s20 as per the FAQ
footer.template file looks like:
If you have trouble unsubscribing automatically
email me here mailto:me@here.com -S trouble unsubcribing $ORG_TO
Then add the following to the rc.local.s20 file
#
# Appending a recipient address to every outgoing mail for unsub problems:
#
:0 fbw
ORG_TO=`formail -cXTo: | head -1`
| sed 's/\$ORG_TO/'"$ORG_TO"/g footer.template >footer.txt
| cat - footer.txt
Again my apologies for the intrusion

Hi,
How do I create a list that users can't subscribe to and list members
can't unsubscribe? The list members should only be added and removed by
the administrator by command line.

I have just upgraded from Smartlist 2.6 to Smartlist 3.03. I need to email the data file to another person. With the last version, I could go into the Smarlist folder and attach the appropriate file to the email. With the new version, I can't find the data file on my hard drive. I'm using Windows XP and the application folder is C:\Program Files\Smartlist To Go
Do I have to export it from my copy and then email the Excel file? It seems like an extra step to me.
