I took over the the SmartList FAQ from Peter Hartzler (pete(a)hartzler.net) in 2005 and have been hosting it since that time at Animalgenome.org site (https://www.animalgenome.org/SmartList/FAQ). Over the past 17+ years, the new updates to the FAQ were relatively few. The most recent update was in May 2021. While I don't foresee the updates will become more active in the near future as we witness the relative low/no activities on this mail list in recent years, I have moved the FAQ to Github for its long-term stability (https://zhilianghu.github.io/SmartList/FAQ) along with a SmartList Documentation Guide (https://zhilianghu.github.io/SmartList/) and Manual (https://zhilianghu.github.io/SmartList/Manual). One advantage with Github is that multiple contributers can work together. A repository can be "pulled"/"forked" to continue independent development works. I will be happy to set up an "organization" (github term) to accept Github users for collaborative works if any of you wish to join a possible team effort. Thank you, Zhiliang

Smartlist version added download site https://github.com/procmail-org/SmartList - 1.4 add http://www.pure.ch/pub/smartlist/old/SmartList-FAQ to "additional documentations" - 3.6 updated Matt Wright's "Formmail" link from the out-of-dated http://www.cgi-resources.com to https://www.scriptarchive.com/formmail.html Obviously there are many parts that need updates, and they are overdue. How to use rc.local.s10.mhonarc ?

All, I am trying to use rc.local.s10.mhonarc from http://www.ha-schneider.de/software/smartlist/ to set up an archive for a mailing list. I have renamed rc.local.s10.mhonarc to rc.local.s30 and added following line to rc.custom RC_LOCAL_SUBMIT_30 = rc.local.s30 rc.local.s10 and rc.local.s20 are already in use and since I do not know how to merge the recipe in rc.local.s10.mhonarc with either of the two, I renamed it to rc.local.s30 and added a new line in rc.custom. Could someone please help me understand as to how it all works. Thanks Nishi

hi! how can i modyfiy the text for the automatic subscribe/unsubscribe-mail? The possibilities of a *subscribe.txt*-file in my folder are not enough for me. But you're right, it's been _years_ since he's been around. However, the list belongs to the maintainer (or at least the machine's admin), not the members. You'll get no argument from me that the list should be moved (I believe I said exactly that a couple of times), but to suggest the admins need to take a poll to ask what they may or may not do with the existing list is silly, to say the least. They are certainly able to move this list to mailman without the list subscriber's permission - indeed, they _have_ done so, which makes my point for me. Whether we should move this list to a SmartList server is a completely seperate issue...one which Philip should probably weigh in on, since he is now maintaining the procmail/SmartList source and as such the de facto head of our band of merry wanderers... body header situations

I have a list that allows multi-parts(styled/attachment), and I have a recipe to insert a body header: :0 fhw | cat - header.txt It works fine for all plain text mails. However for mails with multi-parts the "inserted" header does not show in distributed mails. I understand it must be that the header was inserted in the "begining of body" but outside of "multipart" boundary marks thus gets dropped in subsequent processes (by MTA or email clients). Any possible work around? Zhiliang
