MUNICH INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

MUNICH INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
from March 24-26, 2006 at the Mathaeser
38 films from 23 countries are running for competition at MUNICH INTERNATIONAL short film festival, which takes place this weekend in the Bavarian capitol, the leading city of film production in Germany. All films are Bavarian premieres, 23 of them are even celebrating their German premiere. Among the films are three Oscar-nominees, four nominees for the European Film Award, four winners of the student Oscar, five Emmy award winners, five winners of the Prix UIP, 13 winners of the Jameson short film award and winning films of many national short film awards such as Spains Goya and Icelands Edda.
Festival director Martin Blankemeyer assembled five programs assigned to the five basic taste sensations:
The program "Sweet", launching the festival on Friday at 6 p.m., comprises six short films involving love, partners and sex ranging from the Hollywood-like romantic comedy "Love Thy Neighbor" to the female masturbation fantasy "Susie", a puppet animation.
The program "Salty" combines the physically sweatening like the Greek Olympia-parable "Pilala" with the politically "salty" like the US animation "Rex Steele: Nazi Smasher", which fuses state-of-the-art animation techniques with the visual style of the German Wochenschau from the 1930s.
"Bitter" shows a selection of films without happy endings, among those the documentary animation "The Yellow Bus" on rural flight in Hungary, the documentary "Land of Mist" about asylum seekers in Denmark, as well as the almost cheerful "Killing The Afternoon" about an afternoon on the beach wouldnt there be its bitter ending.
"Sour" showcases demanding films, without lacking hope. Group dynamics such as in "Meander" neighbor reflections on death ("Wake") and on relationship: US director Vanessa Ly shot "Mekong Interior" - a perfect example of typical French Cinema - in Cambodia.
"Umami", at last, is a scientifically acknowledged taste sensation, but hasnt come to public awareness (yet). Hence, this program presents unknown territory that gives strong impressions just as glutamate, the epitome of umami. For example the Flash-programmed animation "Frog" about a vicious circle and the Oscar-nominated drama "Little Terrorist" about a boy who becomes an object of international politics as he crosses the Indo-Pakistani border by mistake.
All films will be screened in their original English language or with English subtitles. More information on the individual films and the screening program can be found at the festival website www.muc-intl.de
Tickets for each "tasty" program can be purchased at the Mathaeser for 5 ( 4.50 for students). A festival pass, which allows access to all screenings, can be obtained for 18 (passport-size photo required).
The festival is presented by the Munich Filmwerkstatt and CommClub Munich, in Cooperation with Munichs largest movie theatre Mathaeser, and with the support of GO> Munich, Toytown Munich, Media Campus Bavaria, Italian Cultural Institute, Early Bird Films and Michael Dorka. The festival is operated under the patronage of UNICA, which bestows the most innovative film with an award endowed by Kodak with film material for the filmmakers next project.

Screening invitation for hit Chinese film, Waiting Alone
- March 20, 10am, HKCEC, Meeting Room 407
Arclight Films is excited to announce that we have recently acquired the film that rocked audiences in China in 2005, becoming one of the biggest hits and the most talked about releases in the country's history: Waiting Alone, by hot young Chinese-American writer/director Dayyan Eng, who previously directed Bus 44 which premiered and won awards at the Venice Film festival in 2001, Sundance Film Festival in 2002 and was invited to Director's Fortnight in Cannes the same year.
Waiting Alone was nominated for three awards, including “BEST PICTURE”, at the 2005 Chinese Academy Awards (Golden Rooster Awards) -- The first ever by a foreign director, and the only first-feature and the only indie film in category!

Set in Beijing, the film is a window into modern Chinese youth culture. Waiting Alone is a coming-of-age tale which tells the first-person-narrative story of Wen (Xia Yu), an antique shop co-owner and an aspiring author who feels that he's met the perfect girl (Li Bingbing). But no matter how close he and the girl become, he just doesn't understand why she won't fall for
him. Aided by his best friends and the one girl he completely trusts (Gong Beibi), he tries different ways to woo her, playing along within the “rules of the game”...

"Waiting Alone provides honest laughter and touching moments as it invades the modern romantic comedy turf of Woody Allen and Nora Ephron. … All thesps show good comic timing, and Xia [Yu] is especially good as the lovelorn Chen and Gong Beibi also impresses as [Jing]... will leave the cinema with a joyous bang."
-- Variety
"Waiting Alone brings a uniquely new style and approach to Chinese cinema; it is one that cannot be found in past Chinese films. …Eng is a strong and unique new talent in Chinese cinema."

Dear Producer,
We are a new Brazilian distribution company interested to analyze
your feature film for possible distribution. We just operate in the
Brazilian territory.
Could you please let me know the status of your films for the Brazilian
territory? We´re just interested in films made between 2005 and 2006.
If you send us a DVD, Please send it by regular mail and not by express
courier because the Brazilian bureaucracy makes us to pay a lot of
unnecessary taxes to receive screeners.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
