Dear Friends,
Ocule Films is looking forward to the 2006 Cannes Film Festival as a chance
to meet up with you once more, enjoy the beautiful south of France, and, of
course, talk movies. See below for a quick introduction to the titles we
will bring to the 2006 Marche du Film. Ocule will be located at Riviera
Stand E4, please drop by and pay us a visit.
"The Art of Football: From A - Z" (90 min) starring John Cleese. Along
with superstar friends like Pele, Ronaldo, Bono, and Elton John, legendary
comedian John Cleese examines the world's most popular game. This comedic
documentary is a love letter to the sport of football as well as being a
film that takes mischievous delight in the more strange and unusual aspects
of the game. Perfect for avid football fans and newcomers to the game
alike, The Art of Football will be enjoyed for years to come. Football
heroes like Beckenbauer, Rud Van Nistelrooy, and Henri Thierry are featured
as are such icons and movie stars as Nelson Mandela and Dennis Hopper.
(Distributed in conjunction with Studio Hamburg)
"Brooklyn Lobster" (90 min) Martin Scorsese presents this sadly sweet drama
which stars Danny Aiello and Jane Curtin from "Saturday Night Live". A
stubborn, working-class business man refuses to yield to financial troubles
even though bankruptcy threatens to tear his family apart. Brooklyn Lobster
has met with tremendous critical praise across the US and was a favorite at
the Toronto Film Festival. Presently in US theatrical release.
"I am a Sex Addict" (99 min) in this quirky comedy, a man preparing for his
wedding day looks back at a long-time addiction to sex with prostitutes and
thinks back to how this habit has destroyed every relationship he has ever
had. Winner for "Best Film" at the Gotham Awards. Official selection at
the Tribeca and Rotterdam Film Festivals. Presently in US theatrical
release through IFC.
"A Hole In One" (97 min) academy award nominated Michelle Williams
(Brokeback Mountain) stars as a 1950s gangster's wife who considers a
drastic medical procedure in order to find happiness. Also starring
Meatloaf Aday and Tim Guinee. "A Hole in One" was released theatrically in
the US in 2005.
"Lost" (85 min) Dean Cain gives a critically acclaimed performance in this
psychological thriller. The film tells the story of a man in desperate
circumstances who resorts to bank robbery to turn his life around. The
robbery, however, goes horribly wrong . . . "Lost" was released
theatrically in the US in 2005 to rave reviews. German TV Rights Available.
"Trespassers"(83 min) a surf/horror film, full of waves, babes, and gore.
Five young friends travel from Los Angeles to Mexico looking for good surf
and a secluded beach, but instead they stumble upon a terrible curse that
rises from the sand. This film is scheduled for a 2006 US DVD Release
through Image/No Mercy Pictures.
"The Mars Underground" ( 52 min or 83 min) a documentary about Robert
Zubrin, a maverick, ex-nasa scientist who's lifelong dream is to explore and
eventually colonize mars. Thanks to CGI wizardry, this gorgeous
hi-definition film makes the viewer feel as if he or she has actually
touched down on the red planet. The Mars Underground has been picked up as
an "event film" by networks across Europe and is now available in
hi-definition DVD with 5.1 surround sound. German DVD Rights Available.
"Waking Up Dead" (80 min) follow the drummer for Skid Row and Saigon Kick on
a tormented journey through the dark side of rock and roll. This
documentary, which was four years in the making, is a back stage pass to
sex, drugs, and screaming fans. Ultimately, the film offers a hard look at
the consequences of the rock and roll lifestyle.
"Flavors" (114 min) a refreshing, cross-cultural comedy in the spirit of
Bend It Like Beckham. Four criss-crossing stories of Indian-Americans and
Americans that all connect in the most surprising of ways. "Flavors" is a
good natured and up-tempo romantic comedy.
"Guests Of The Ayatollah" (4 x 60 min) from Mark Bowden, the writer of
"Black Hawk Down" comes this sweeping and dramatic story of the 1979 Iranian
hostage crisis: America's first confrontation with radical Islam. (North
American rights only)
