Recently set up a thriving list with SmartList and the crew is very eager
for the list name to be appended to the beginning of every subject for
sorting reasons.. I believe I've seen majorDomo do this.. Reasonably simple
task, except to do it right I think you'd want to parse the subject to make
sure it wasn't a reply with the list name string already in place...
Can smart list do something like that, and if so how?
thanks!

I am not sure if the person who asked how to filter mail in Outlook Express
got his answer.
It goes like this:
Tools
Msg Rules
Mail
Complete sections 1 and 2
section 3, click on the blue words and fill in the appropriate information
section 4, name the rule.
But, it does not look as though you can sort by header information.
(Remember MS assumes people are either too lazy or too stupid to know what
that information is for anyway.)
I am running a list with about 20 users. I am using a rc.local.s20 file
that puts the listname in the subject line and it also puts in a header
and footer. When anyone other than the list maintainer sends a message
to the list, it does not include the header and footer. Anyone know how
to solve this problem?
The rc.local.s20 looks like this.
#
# Adding a disclaimer at the beginning and/or end of every mail:
#
:0 fhw
| cat - header.txt
:0 fbw
| cat - footer.txt
#
# To get rid of all X- fields:
#
:0 fhw
| formail -I X-
# rc.local.s20
# This routine will put the list name at the start of the message
subject
SUBJ=`formail -zx Subject: | sed -e "s|\[$list] ||g" -e "s|Re: Re: |Re:
|g"`
:0 fw
* ! ^Subject:.[$list] *
| formail -I "Subject: [$list] $SUBJ"
SUBJ
#:0 fhw # insert the listname in brackets before the subject text
#* ^Subject: *\/[^ ].*$
#| formail -I"Subject: [$list] $MATCH"
#:0 Efhw # make sure that there's _something_ for the subject
#| formail -I"Subject: [$list] <none>"

I found a tar file in this directory. Two rconfig files.
I don't have a tar program (will winzip work? nah, didn't think so!). Is
there some way I can get this into my domain?
Also, do I need both of these rconfig files? One is dated September 2000,
the next October 2000.
This program is supposed to create a web interface for performing many
Smartlist tasks. Has anyone used it? If so, what do you have to say abot
it. Please remember this is the same person who does not yet know how to
access moderated mail yet.
Yes, I am working hard to learn this as fast as possible so I can stop
bothering you kind people.
Thanks!
Cindy
Dear List Members,
I would like to know how to put just one person on moderated status.
I will need to know what directory to create and what commands to write in
what files.
IOW, I don't know much!
But, this one person is going to ruin the whole list if I don't put her on
moderated status. If I just boot her off the list she will just come back
under any of a thousand different email address (she has AOL so that would
be easy).
I really do appreciate any help that might be offered. We have smartlist
version 3.4 (I think?).
Thank you!
Cindy
Dear List Members,
ok, here goes, laying my neck on the chopping block....
I wrote yesterday about wanting to know how to put one person on moderated
status.
Reading all the information and printing manuals and stuff for days has
taught me a great deal, but not solved my problem.
I have considered making the whole list moderated (a little more work, but
more necessary at this time to contain this problem). I have figured out
what all I need to do to make it moderated. However, I have not found in
any location the several sets of FAQs and instructions on how to retrieve
the messages that need to be approved and the process to approve or reject
them. All the instructions I have found assume you know how to do this and
go from there.
So, once I make the list moderated, how do I do this basic function?
Thank you!
Cindy
I am a webmaster who is running smartlist on a Red Hat web server. I haven't
figured out how to stop everyone on a list from being able to post to it.
One client would like to be the only one posting to the list. I would
appreciate any light that can be given to my problem. Also, I wonder if
there is some kind of how-to out there that would help me with general
questions about Smartlist. Thank-You
Mark

Wow, lived with Smartlist for 5 years never know that is a BOOK! ;-)
I was tracing -request function among the code blocks (rc.local
as well as those in ../.bin) and could not figure out some of the
behaviors. I'll take a look.
Thanks!
