Don,
Here's an example of a problem users have with Smartlist. The software is
actually about as "smart" as a box of rocks! The Smartlist Junkies insist
all the users are idiots because they just won't stand on their heads while
using this arcane UNIX software, instead preferring to use such user-hostile
software as Outlook Express. I have to agree with the Smartlist geeks: If
you can't program in COBOL you shouldn't be using a computer!

When a person posted a message on my mailing list. Sometimes not
success. I found the message in the header of email below:
==========================================
X-Diagnostic: Already on the subscriber list
X-Diagnostic: 80 db2(a)list.com 32760 db2(a)list.com
==========================================
Actually this message was not sent for subscription. why it went to
subscription routine. Anybody knows this?
Thanks!
I added an rc.local.s10 file to my list directory to add
"[listname]" to the headers of all mailing list messages. That
worked fine. Then in the rc.custom file, I uncommented
"reply_to=$listaddr" and set it o "reply_to="Reply-To:
$listaddr". That works, but now I've lost the "[listname]" in
the message headers. Can anyone tell me what's going on?
Thanks, Lu Rudolph

check this list distribution file (dist). Look in it for the
address above and make sure it is properly formated: no strange
characters, no CR+LF, no missing CR, one e-mail address per line,
etc.

choplist: Skipping invalid address entry: "name(a)name.com zenemijr"
The address in question is valid...indeed it originates from the

Hi folks,
I try to install SmartList on a providers freebsd server. I have only a
virtual-server with only one user-acount 'XAVER'. My mailing is called
'testing'. Before I created it like this:
createlist testing lm(a)inno-media.com Now I only get dead.letters like this
one:

Hi,
I couldn't find it on the documentation and the messages on the archive
did not reflected exactly what I'm looking for, so I'm writing to the
list.
I would like procmail to check the size of the mbox file before droping
the new arrived message down there. I think this should be something
more hardcoded than a rc script.
If the size exceeds "x" bytes (pre-defined), I want it to pick up the
"From" email address on the begining of the mail and send a mail back
to this guy, telling him his message was not delivered.
I'm not sure if I have made myself clear, but what I want is something
like this:
john(a)foobar.com sends a mail to maria(a)mynetwork.com
1) the MX sendmail (MTA) for 'mynetwork.com' will accept the message
and engage procmail to deliver the message.
2) procmail will check the size of "maria"s mailbox, and if it's larger
than, let's say, MAXMAILBOX (defined in a configuration file anywhe-
re), it will get the "From" line (containing john(a)foobar.com) from
the body of the email, and send him a predefined message (perhaps
a file also defined on the configuration file?).
I couldn't find this feature on my release (3.15. 1), and nothing exa-
ctly like this discussed here before.
Does anyone knows how to do it? Or if it have to be coded, where in the
code should I insert such routine?
Thanks,
Felipe

Hello to all...
Does anyone have any experience of setting up the mail to html
program MhonArc with smartlist?... does it work? I've managed to
install Mhonarc on a linux server (remotely) but cant seem to manage
to get it to pick up the archive.
all the best
David
I have a mailing list that contains 78 addresses on it.
If I edit the accept file directly, I can see all the names.
But, if I send an Xcommand to mail me the addresses on it, I only
get 59 names back.
People have been complaining that they are not getting the mail.
How can I fix this?
TIA
Joe
At 10:49 AM -0500 3/9/01, Tom Mahoney is rumored to have typed:
> If I should have sent to the list...I shall.
And, I note, forwarded to the list a message sent by me to you PRIVATELY
without my permission. Perhaps you should spend more time learning proper
netiquette, and less time b*tching about SmartList. Forwarding mail sent
PRIVATELY to a PUBLIC mailing list without the permission of the author is
about as low as you can get...which is exactly why I _didn't_ reply to you
on-list, but rather privately, suggesting you should have sent your message
to the list instead of to me since my views on this issue should be
well-known to you from my previous responses. Note I had the decency NOT to
send your posting to the list without your permission - something you need to
learn immediately before you post to _any_ mailing list on the net. (This
improper behavior is grounds for immediate explusion on the mailing lists _I_
operate. I would have expected more from someone at F&M...they appear to have
considerably lowered their standards in CS.)
As to the rest...there's no point to my wasting the time responding.
Knock yourself out having the last word...I won't bother replying to you
again.
Charlie (who apologizes to the list for this unseemly exchange)
