Dear TC6 Member,
It was a tradition to see the TC6 Chairman being reelected for a second
period of three years.
But Augusto has indicated that he wants to break the tradition by rejecting
the idea of a second term. If Augusto confirms his position we have to
prepare the more complex process of election of a new chairman.
At the TC6 Meeting in Paris, I have been designated for the organisation of
the election of the next TC6 Chairman.
I will follow the rules adopted by TC6 three year ago.
The first step consists in finding a list of candidates.
Besides being a national representative, which is a Bylaws condition, the
TC6 decided that all eligible members must meet the following conditions :
- attendance to at least one TC6 meeting among the last 3
- have already been a conference organiser of an TC sponsored event
involving more than a hundred people
- make the commitment to attend all meetings of TC6
- make a commitment to participate regularly in the Council Meetings and
the General Assembly Meetings.
In Beijing, we will first established the list of eligible people taking
into account the first three conditions:
- national representative
- attendance to at least one TC6 meeting among Hungary, Paris and Beijing
- conference organiser.
After Beijing, I will ask all the TC6 members which will be on the eligible
list list to confirm their willingness to stay on the ballot. Staying on
the ballot means, of course, a commitment to attend all the meetings of TC6
and to participate regularly in the Council and General Assembly meetings.
In order to avoid any misunderstanding, I will invite also all the people
on this list who are not willing to stay on the ballot to clearly indicate
their position.
When the list of willing eligible people will be ready (likely around
September 15-20), we will start the last step before the vote:
each candidate will have to prepare
- a short CV with an emphasis to the TC6 related activities
- a statement of interest for the TC6 Chairmanship postion. Why do they
want to be chairman, what activities they intend to continue, to
discontinue, to create, what will change in TC6 under their leadership.
- a statement about the way they see the relationship between them (as TC6
chairman) and the Council and the General Assembly.
These information will have to be sent directly to me. I will sort all
these informations and prepare the final document which will allow each TC6
delegate to cast his vote for one of the candidate. If none of them get
more than 50% of the votes, a second vote will take place with only the two
candidates who received the greatest support on the first vote.
The people eligible to vote are the national representatives and the WG Chairmen
(one vote by WG).
I hope that this time the vote will be carried by email with the help of
the IFIP secretariat for counting the vote. If snailmail has to be used,
the people responsible of mailing of the bulletin and the two enveloppes
will be as usual the TC6 chairman. I am ready to check the vote arrivals
and to proceed with the counting when all of votes will be on my desk.
See you in China
Andre

Dear TC6 members,
I attach the proposed agenda for our TC6 meeting in Beijing.
I would like to dedicate most of our time in the meeting to the planning
of events in each of the Working Groups. I feel this is the next logical
step after having stabilized the structure of the Working Groups.
We should decide which events are sponsored by each Working Group and we
should also decide on the best strategy to promote those events.
See you in Beijing

Dear WG and TG chairmen,
A quick reminder that the deadline for sending the reports ends tomorrow
(August 4). I can still receive the reports until August 7 in order to
include them in the meeting documents. Until now, I received only the WG
6.7 report.
I would also thank the WG chairs who cannot attend the TC6 meeting, to
delegate their representation in a proxy delegate, who belongs to the
respective WG and is attending the meeting.
Best regards
Augusto Casaca
Dear TC6 members,
I attach the present version of the TC6 handbook. I would appreciate
that you read it carefully and indicate any modifications you suggest to
make during the TC6 meeting in Beijing.
Best regards
Augusto
Dear TC6 members,
Please find attached the coordinates of the Slovenian representative to
TC6.
As usual I would thank Otto and Herbert to do the appropriate updates.
Best regards
Augusto
Dear freinds,
here is another nontechnical story which could (nevertheless)
have a little bit of truth.
Best wishes
Otto
*************************************************************************
A shepherd is supervising his large group of sheeps in a deserted
environment. All of a sudden a well-dressed young man comes driving a
modern minivan and asks:
"If I can find out the number of your sheeps... can I then get one of
them"? The shepherd agrees.
Thereafter, the young man opens the NASA Internet homepage, scans the
environment using GPS satellite navigation system, opens a data base
and sixty EXCEL pages. He prints a 150 page report using a very fashionable
printer and, finally, he says: "You are owner of exactly 1586 sheeps".
The shepherd replies: "That's absolutely correct. Please select one of them
for your tonight's meal".
The young man selects a sheep and puts it into his minivan.
Just before he is starting the motor, the shepherd says:
"If I can find out your profession... can I then get my sheep back?".
The young man agrees.
The shepherd says: "You are a consultant. I'm absolutely sure about that".
The young man is stupefied and says: "That's correct. But how could
you find out my profession"?
The shepherd: "I have at least three convincing reasons for that:
1. You came without being asked".
2. With a very complicated procedure you have found out something which
was already well-known to me.
3. You don't have any knowledge about your customer,
(i.e. about my profession) since the sheep which you have selected
is the sheepdog."
