Dear colleagues, also from my side a merry Christmas 2004 and a prosperous 2005 ! After a heated copyright discussion in Bangkok things became a little bit more quiet now. But as a disturbing new I have to tell you that Springer has refused for the first time to publish an event of TC6, namely Ie§ (Oct.2005) in Cracow! See below. I attach for your distraction: 1. A (maybe old) story concerning the nonexistence of Santa Claus 2. Some slides of a Christmas lecture concerning Computer Science and Religion which I held yesterday under a pseudonym name (we call it Anagramm in Germany). Have fun. Best wishes Otto ---- The rejection message by LNCS follows: Dear Wojciech: Thanks for your reminder regarding the status of IFIP I3E 2005 for publication in LNCS. I had been out for a two week trip to China and could not sort out the matter before I left. So, I ask for your understanding that I am coming back only now. The main reason for the delay in coming to a decision at our side was that we had a controversial evaluation of your proposal going back and forth several times and that in this context we had to agree on a certain principled approach. I very much regret to have to inform you that we have decided not to accept IFIP I3E 2005 for publication in LNCS. We feel that, topicwise as well as regarding the people involved, the focus of I3E is rather on the applications of techniques from information systems, computer communications networking, etc. to business solutions than on advancing these techniques themselves or the related methodologies or foundations. We therefore feel that LNCS, with ist focus on serving the technical computer science R&D community is not the propper platform for publication of this proceedings. As said, I regret that the LNCS series editors could not agree on accepting I3E, however, I am sure that my colleague Jennifer Evans from Springer US/Norwell would be interested and happy to arrange with you for publication of I3E 2005 in the form KAP IFIP Proceedings publication style. The success of M-Commerce is basically dependent on the development and acceptance of new wireless technologies over 3G and 4G networks as well as intelligent service platforms on mobile devices. However, to fully exploit the high growth potentials of M-commerce there is a strong need to adopt existing E-commerce approaches for wireless networks and to develop new sophisticated mobile applications to meet the needs of mobile subscribers, for example in the areas of financial transactions, mobile marketing and gaming, as well as location and context-aware services. Compared with the traditional wired E-commerce, wireless networks and mobile devices impose additional constraints, challenges, and requirements on building M-commerce platforms and applications, for example content adaptation, security and privacy issues, and mobile payment mechanisms. The Second IEEE International Workshop on Mobile Commerce and Services (WMCS) brings together researchers, scientists, software architects, and industry professionals with the aim of discussing and exchanging innovative ideas and research work in M-commerce and services. The topics for submissions include but are not limited to the following fields: - Novel M-commerce applications and services - Location and context-aware M-commerce services - Service platforms for supporting M-commerce (mobile web enterprise) - Brokerage and service discovery mechanisms - Middleware, mobile components, and agent technologies supporting M-commerce - Platforms for client applications in mobile devices (J2ME, Symbian) - Digital Rights Management - Wireless security problems & solutions, and mobile privacy - Mobile payment solutions, systems and platforms - New wireless multimedia technologies and platforms for M-commerce (e.g., DVB-H) - Inter-organizational service provisioning (business models and their realization) - Wireless advertising solutions, systems and platforms - Mobile entertainment applications, services and platforms for digital mu-sic, videos and games - Case-studies and experiences (experience reports) Submissions ----------- Authors are invited to submit original and significant research contributions in the aforementioned areas. Dear Otto, As another year draws to a close, I have pleasure in recollecting how much we have appreciated working with you over the past years. Now I can still vividly recall the impressive scenes all the TC6 members spent together, especially the TC6 meeting hold in Beijing in 2000. As you know, I am working for 40 hours a week in Tsinghua Dascom company and write 1-2 books for Tsinghua University Press each year, which means a severe strain on a 70 years old person's intellectuall & physical resources, So I decide to retire totally. Now I take great pleasure in introducing to you Mr.Lin, professor of Department of Computer Science and Technology, Tsinghua University, who is well on his way to establishing an equally high reputation, I think he is the right person to take over my responsibility in IFIP-TC6.
