Liebe Interessierte,
"Wie lang sollten wir leben?"
Wann: Mittwoch, 24.07.19, 18:30
Wo: Seminarraum S06 im C.A.R.L.
Was: Diese Woche wollen wir formales Debattieren näher kennenlernen,
genauer British Parliamentary Style
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Parliamentary_Style).

Where: seminar room S06 in the C.A.R.L.
What: This week we want to explore formal debate, British Parliamentary
Style (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Parliamentary_Style). We
will start with a short introduction what this means, how the debate is
run and why this debate style is practiced. Then we will head right into
the topic of aging and what advantages and disadvantages of living for
longer are.
If you want to participate in the debate, please have a look at the two
articles below. If you just want to listen to the debate because the
topic interests you, that's also great.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Liebe Interessierte,
in Partnerübung üben.
Lokalgruppe kennen!
Wir freuen uns auf euch!
Viele Grüße,
Tom

Dear subscribers,
Our next open meetup is this Wednesday, July 17th 2019, at 7:30pm in the
S06 (CARL).
Ever argued with a friend about a hot topic and ended up only shouting
at each other, not resolving the issue at hand?
Not anymore, thanks to the rationality technique 'double crux'. In
double crux, you and your discussion partner aim to find the real
underlying disagreements that fuel the conflict on the surface. This
leads predictably to higher conflict resolution and understanding of the
other party's goals.
We will introduce double cruxing and then practice it in pairs at our
next meet-up.
If you are interested in the topic or just want to have a chat about
philosophy and rationality, come around and get to know the local group!
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
Best,
Tom

actions and plans and helps to achieve one's goals more easily.
Afterwards there will be time for discussions and chats about topics
surrounding Effective Altruism, rationality and philosophy.
We are in the CARL until ~9pm, so if you are interested in the topic or
just want to have a chat about philosophy and rationality, come around

Liebe Interessierte,
"The ones who walk away from Omelas".

Dear subscribers,
our next open meetup is this Wednesday, 5th June 2019, at 7:30pm in the
S06 (CARL).
Imagine the perfect society. No fighting, no hatred, just pure joy and
fulfillment.. but there is a price for this utopia. A price measured in
human suffering.
Would you be willing to pay it to sustain this happiness?
This question is tackled by Ursula Le Guin's short story "The ones who
walk away from Omelas". We will listen to an audio version of the story
and then discuss it.
At 8pm we will walk to the bar Papillon to chat about this and other
topics related to Effective Altruism.
If you are interested in the topic or just want to have a chat about
philosophy and rationality, come around and have a look.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Liebe Interessierte,
Seminarraum S06 (Hörsaalzentrum C.A.R.L).
Tom - EA Aachen

Dear subscribers,
Our next open meetup is next Wednesday at 7:30pm in the seminar room S06
(Auditorium C.A.R.L).
For the start of the semester you had some new resolutions? Getting up
after the first ring of the alarm, keep a to-do list, don't scroll
Instagram so long anymore?
After two months you already broke every single one of those resolutions?
Don't worry, there is a solution to your problems: trigger-action-plans
(TAPs)
TAPs are one of many so-called rationality techniques, which asssit one
to accomplish ones goals.
Broadly speaking, if you experience a "trigger" you perform an "action".
How one precisely creates a TAP and how to make the most out of the
technique will be discussed in a lightning talk by Tom from the local group.
Afterwards we will also discuss the topic of the talk and other subjects
related to Effective Altruism.
We are in the CARL until ~8pm and will walk to the Papillon afterwards,
so if you are interested in the topic or just want to have a chat about
philosophy and rationality, come around and have a look.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
