Guten Tag zusammen, ich habe eine Abschlussarbeit zum Thema Reinforcement Learning, für die ich einen (oder sogar mehrere) Studenten suche. Dabei geht es darum, ein Reinforcement Learning Netz für die Verbesserung von Linsensystemen für die Lasertechnik auf zu stellen. Eine Kombiarbeit (bspw. Projektarbeit + Bachelorarbeit oder Seminararbeit + Masterarbeit) könnte ich mir auch gut vorstellen. Falls jemand Interesse hat, kann sich gern den Anhang angucken und bei mir melden! Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) Method in Chromatography Modeling The CADES project(cadet.github.io<https://cadet.github.io>) is developed at Forschungszentrum Jülich for many years as simulator for chromatographic separation systems and further unit operations in pharmaceutical and chemical industries and published as open source code. The project is actively managed and developed in Jülich und has a broad international user community. The existing code is implemented in C++ and uses a finite element approach for solving the underlying partial differential equations. This shall be complemented with a discontinuous Galerkin (DG) approach that has been successfully tested in a closed project (doi.org/10.1016/j.compchemeng.2020.107012<https://doi.org/10.1016/j.compchemeng.2020.107012>). The project is very suitable for a Master thesis in Computational Engineering Science and related fields. CADET is promoted by a young, dynamic and communicative team with broad expertise in process modeling, numerical methods and software engineering. Candidates can make a real and visible contribution and must bring substantial programming experience. Das Projekt wird in Jülich aktiv gepflegt, stetig weiterentwickelt und hat eine breite internationale Nutzergemeinde. Der bestehende Code ist in C++ implementiert und verwendet einen Finite-Volumen-Ansatz zur Lösung der zugrunde liegenden partiellen Differentialgleichungen. Dem soll nun ein diskontinuierlicher Galerkin (DG) Ansatz gegenübergestellt werden, der in einem nichtöffentlichen Projekt bereits erfolgreich getestet wurde (doi.org/10.1016/j.compchemeng.2020.107012<https://doi.org/10.1016/j.compchemeng.2020.107012>). Das Projekt eignet sich hervorragend für eine Masterarbeit im Bereich Computational Science and Engineering. CAMMP week Pro 2021 – Final Call

— English version below — Liebe Studierende, es gibt noch ein paar freie Plätze für das Seminar CAMMP week Pro! Wenn ihr Lust habt mathematische Modellierung in spannenden, aktuellen Forschungsthemen anzuwenden, könnt ihr euch noch bis zum 1. Juni für die CAMMP week Pro 2021 registrieren. Die erfolgreiche Teilnahme kann euch in eurem Studiengang (Mathematik, CES, SiSc) mit 3 CP (Mathematik B. Sc., CES, SiSc: Abschlussbericht + mündl. Prüfung) bzw. 5 CP (Mathematik M. Sc.: Abschlussbericht + Berichterweiterung + mündl. Prüfung) anerkannt werden. Die CAMMP week Pro ist eine Woche zur computergestützten mathematischen Modellierung, bei der Studierende verschiedener Studiengänge eine Woche lang unterstützt durch DoktorandInnen und ProfessorInnen, an aktuellen Forschungsthemen des Forschungszentrum Jülich arbeiten. Die Themen sind vielfältig und reichen u. a. von Elektrostatik, Molekulardynamik, Robuster Optimierung im Energiesektor, über den Daten-Fit von Schwerewellen bis hin zur Bildverarbeitung und Visualisierung von Proteinketten. Während der CAMMP week Pro lernt ihr nicht nur Studierende aus anderen Studiengängen und Semestern kennen, sondern könnt zudem Kontakte zu ProfessorInnen des Forschungszentrums Jülich knüpfen und ggf. spannende Themen für Abschlussarbeiten und Hiwi-Jobs ausloten. Am Ende der Modellierungswoche werden die erzielten Ergebnisse den Problemstellern und weiteren Gästen präsentiert. Wenn Corona es erlaubt, findet die Veranstaltung in einer Jugendherberge in Voeren (Belgien) statt. Ansonsten wird die Veranstaltung online durchgeführt. Die endgültige Entscheidung hängt von der Corona-Situation ab und wird von uns zu angemessenem Zeitpunkt entschieden. Je nach Format variieren die Durchführungszeiträume. Die CAMMP week Pro findet statt im Zeitraum - 30.08. morgens – 04.09.2021 abends bei einer Exkursion nach Belgien, - 26.08. morgens – 04.09.2021 abends im Falle einer Online-Veranstaltung (ohne das Wochenende). Für die Teilnahme an der CAMMP week Pro in Belgien wird ein Unkostenbeitrag von 70 € erhoben. Dieser beinhalten Transport, Unterkunft und Verpflegung in der Jugendherberge. If you want to apply your knowledge of mathematical modeling to exciting and relevant research topics, the CAMMP week Pro is the perfect opportunity to test your skills! For that, registration is open until 1. June 2021. Successful participation can be accredited with credit points for students of Mathematics, CES or SiSc: As a Mathematics bachelor, a CES or a SiSc student, you get 3 CP for participating during the week, writing a final group report and passing a final oral exam. As a Mathematics master student you get 5 CP for participating during the week, taking a final oral exam and handing in an extended report. The CAMMP week Pro is an excursion week with a special focus on mathematical modeling. For one week students of different courses of study work together in small teams on current research topics provided by the Forschungszentrum Jülich. They are supported by PhD students and professors. A variety of topics, ranging from electrostatics, machine learning in material science and the data fit of gravity waves to image processing of protein chains, assures that all areas of interest are covered. Beside getting to know students from different fields and years, you can also get in direct contact with the professors from the Forschungszentrum Jülich. This gives the opportunity to find the perfect topic for your master thesis or it could lead the way to finding a PhD position or a job! At the end of the CAMMP week Pro you will present your results to your advisors, further professors and fellow students. If there are no restrictions due to Corona, the CAMMP week Pro takes place in a youth hostel in Voeren (Belgium). Otherwise it will be held as an online event. The final decision of the format (online or in-person) will be made in due course. Depending on the format, the length of the event will differ. The CAMMP week Pro will take place from - 30.08. morning – 04.09.2021 evening if we travel to Belgium, - 26.08. morning – 04.09.2021 evening if the event will take place online (weekend not included). The costs for participating are 70€ if we travel to Belgium. This includes transportation, accommodation and meals in the youth hostel. Participation in the online event is free.
