Liebe Coscine-Nutzende,
im zweiten Newsletter des Jahres geben wir Ihnen einen Einblick in neue
Coscine-Features und einen Rückblick auf die vergangenen Veranstaltungen
sowie eine Ankündigung kommender Präsentationen. Zudem haben wir im Rahmen
der Love Data Week 2025 ein Gewinnspiel organisiert, um der
Coscine-Community als Dankeschön für ihre Mitarbeit etwas Liebe
zurückzugeben.
Neue Features
Wir arbeiten aktuell daran, ein neues Feature zu implementieren, welches von
vielen Nutzenden gewünscht wurde: Die Verbesserung des User Interface (UI)
beim Quota-Management. Statt des Sliders, um den Speicherplatz bei
Neuerstellung von Ressourcen zuzuteilen, gibt es nun ein Eingabefeld. Dies
erleichtert, insbesondere für große Ressourcen, die Speicherplatzzuteilung.
Sobald das Feature implementiert wurde, informieren wir Sie darüber.
FAIR-Prinzipien
In Bezug auf das FAIR-Impact Programme wurde nun ein Ansatz von Coscine zur
Implementierung der FAIR-Prinzipien für die in Coscine verwalteten Daten
erstellt. Diesen haben wir sowohl auf unserer Webseite [1] zur Verfügung
gestellt als auch in Zenodo [2] veröffentlicht.
Community-Features-Gewinnspiel
Anlässlich der Love Data Week veranstalten wir ein
Community-Features-Gewinnspiel. Dadurch möchten wir gerne den Nutzenden
etwas zurückgeben, die sich an der Weiterentwicklung von Coscine aktiv
beteiligen. Die besten drei Beiträge, die im GitLab Community Features [3]
Bereich hochgeladen oder über das ServiceDesk [4] eingereicht wurden,
erhalten einen kleinen Preis. Die vollständigen Teilnahmebedingungen finden
Sie auf der Webseite [5]. Wir freuen uns über eine rege Teilnahme!
DataStorage.nrw
Die Vorbereitungen für die Inbetriebnahme des neuen Speichersystems
DataStorage.nrw laufen weiterhin auf Hochtouren. Aktuell arbeitet das
Entwicklungsteam an der Implementierung des neuen Ressourcentyps, damit bald
die Provisionierung über den DataStorage.nrw starten kann. Der nächste
Blogbeitrag zu diesem Thema erscheint voraussichtlich am 5. März 2025.
Schauen Sie daher gerne regelmäßig auf dem IT Center Blog [6] vorbei.
Stellenausschreibung für das AIMS-Projekt
Für das innovative Forschungsprojekt Applying Interoperable Metadata
Standards (AIMS) suchen wir engagierte Unterstützung zur Weiterentwicklung
des Metadatenprofil-Generators auf der Plattform Coscine. Die
Bewerbungsfrist läuft bis zum 10. März 2025 und wir freuen uns über
aussagekräftige Bewerbungen. Leiten Sie die Stellenausschreibung auch gerne
innerhalb der FDM-Community weiter [7].
Veranstaltungen
Im Februar lag der Fokus veranstaltungstechnisch auf der Love Data Week. Es
gab zwei Workshops zu Coscine, einmal den Basis-Workshop zum Kennenlernen
aller grundlegenden Funktionen und andererseits den Workshop rund um
Metadaten(profile). Beide Kurse waren sehr gut besucht und die Forschenden
konnten einen guten ersten Eindruck von der Plattform bekommen. Einen
Bericht zu den Workshops sowie dem Community-Features-Gewinnspiel finden Sie

Zudem ging ein Nachbericht über die Teilnahme von Coscine an der
RWTHtransparent Veranstaltung, die am 31. Januar 2025 stattgefunden hat,

Im März wird das Coscine-Team außerdem bei den E-Science Tagen in Heidelberg
vertreten sein. Am Donnerstag, den 13. März 2025, gibt es zwei Vorträge,
einen zu den Herausforderungen der agilen Software-Entwicklung mit Bezug zu
FDM sowie der Triathlon Staffel der Speicherplatz-Provisionierung. Details

Dear Coscine Users,
In the second newsletter of the year, we give you an insight into new
Coscine features and a review of past events as well as an announcement of
upcoming presentations. We have also organized a competition as part of Love
Data Week 2025 to give some love back to the Coscine community as a thank
you for their collaboration.
New Features
We are currently working on implementing a new feature that has been
requested by many users: The improvement of the user interface (UI) for
quota management. Instead of the slider to allocate storage space when
creating new resources, there is now an input field. This makes it easier to
allocate storage space, especially for large resources. We will inform you
as soon as the feature has been implemented.
FAIR Principles
Regarding the FAIR Impact Program, Coscine has now created an approach for
implementing the FAIR principles for the data managed in Coscine. We have
made this available on our website [1] and also published it in Zenodo [2].
Community Features Giveaway
To mark the Love Data Week, we are organizing a community features
competition. We would like to give something back to the users who actively
participate in the further development of Coscine. The best three
contributions uploaded in the GitLab Community Features [3] area or
submitted via the ServiceDesk [4] will receive a small prize. You can find
the complete conditions of participation on the landing page [5]. We look
forward to your active participation!
DataStorage.nrw
Preparations for the launch of the new DataStorage.nrw storage system are
still in full swing. The development team is currently working on
implementing the new resource type so that provisioning via DataStorage.nrw
can start soon. The next blog post on this topic is expected to be published
on March 5, 2025, so please check back regularly on the IT Center blog [6].
Job Vacancy for the AIMS Project
For the innovative research project Applying Interoperable Metadata
Standards (AIMS), we are looking for dedicated support for the further
development of the metadata profile generator on the Coscine platform. The
application deadline is March 10, 2025 and we are looking forward to
receiving meaningful applications. You are also welcome to forward the job
advertisement within the RDM community [7].
Events
In February, the focus of the event was on Love Data Week. There were two
workshops on Coscine: the basic workshop to get to know all the basic
functions and the workshop on metadata (profiles). Both courses were very
well attended and the researchers were able to get a good first impression
of the platform. A report on the workshops and the community features
competition can be found on the RDM blog [8].
In addition, a follow-up report on Coscine's participation in the
RWTHtransparent event, which took place on January 31, 2025, went online.

In March, the Coscine team will also be represented at the E-Science Days in
Heidelberg. On Thursday, March 13, 2025, there will be two presentations,
one on the challenges of agile software development with reference to RDM
and the triathlon relay of storage provisioning. Details of the
presentations can be found on the Coscine website [10].
