Dear CES Students, we at the Computer Animation Group (https://animation.rwth-aachen.de) are seeking qualified HiWi's to assist in current research tasks. Our groups main area of study is the simulation of rigid-bodies, deformable-solids and fluids with applications in virtual-prototyping, medical simulation, computer games and special effects. As a part of a cooperation with the ISF (Welding and Joining Institute) we are working on extending the capabilities of our open source particle-based fluid-simulation framework SplishSplash (https://github.com/InteractiveComputerGraphics/SPlisHSPlasH), to be more consistent with specific requirements from an engineering perspective. Possible Tasks: - Help with implementation work and necessary improvements for our fluid simulator - Running and evaluating simulations - Reconstructing fluid geometry and rendering scenes for videos Requirements: - Experience programming in C++/ Python - Interest in/ experience with fluid simulation - Desire to work on current research topics in simulation and engineering We offer: - The ability to work remotely as long as contact restrictions are in place, as well as a workplace at our office - Close contact with our research group consisting of engaged researchers and HiWi's who will gladly answer questions and help out with issues - The option to continue working on different projects related to physically-based simulation in the future If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to me by E-Mail at jeske(a)cs.rwth-aachen.de. CAMMP week Pro 2020

— English version below — Liebe Studierende, auch dieses Jahr habt ihr wieder die Möglichkeit mathematische Modellierung in interessanten, aktuellen Forschungsthemen anzuwenden: Die CAMMP week Pro ist eine Woche (28.09. morgens – 02.10.2020 abends) zur computergestützten mathematischen Modellierung im Kloster Steinfeld - vorausgesetzt natürlich, dass uns Corona nicht dazwischen kommt. Studierende verschiedener Studiengänge arbeiten eine Woche lang unterstützt durch Doktoranden und Professoren, an aktuellen Forschungsthemen des Forschungszentrum Jülich. Die Themen sind vielfältig und reichen u. a. von Elektrostatik, Molekulardynamik, Robuster Optimierung im Energiesektor, über den Daten-Fit von Schwerewellen bis hin zur Bildverarbeitung und Visualisierung von Proteinketten. Während der CAMMP week Pro lernt ihr nicht nur Studierende aus anderen Studiengängen und Semestern kennen, sondern könnt zudem Kontakte zu Professoren des Forschungszentrums Jülich knüpfen und ggf. interessante Themen für Abschlussarbeiten und Hiwi-Jobs ausloten. Am Ende der Modellierungswoche werden die erzielten Ergebnisse den Problemstellern präsentiert. Die CAMMP week Pro kann euch in eurem Studiengang (Mathematik, CES, SiSc) mit 3 CP (Mathematik B. Sc., CES, SiSc: mündl. Prüfung) bzw. 5 CP (Mathematik M. Sc.: mündl. Prüfung + Berichterweiterung) anerkannt werden. Für die Teilnahme an der CAMMP week Pro wird ein Unkostenbeitrag von 70 € erhoben. The CAMMP week Pro is an excursion week (28.09.20 morning - 02.10.20 evening) with a special focus on mathematical modeling which will take place at Steinfeld Monastery - given there are no restrictions due to the corona virus. For one week students of different courses of study work together in small teams on current research topics provided by the Forschungszentrum Jülich. They are supported by PhD students and professors. A variety of topics, ranging from electrostatics, machine learning in material science and the data fit of gravity waves to image processing of protein chains, assures that all areas of interest are covered. Beside getting to know students from different fields and years, you can also get in direct contact with the professors from the Forschungszentrum Jülich. This gives the opportunity to find the perfect topic for your master thesis or it could lead the way to finding a PhD position or a job! At the end of the CAMMP week Pro you will present your results to your advisors, further professors and fellow students. The excursion can be accredited with credit points for students of mathematics, CES or SiSc: As a mathematics (B.Sc.), CES or SiSc student, you get 3 CP for participating during the week and passing a final oral exam. As a mathematics master student you get 5 CP for participating during the week, taking a final oral exam and handing in an extended report. The costs for participating are 70€. This includes transportation, accommodation and meals in Steinfeld. Transportation will be organized centrally. Please note: The entire event will be held in English.
