Thanks Santiago,
I got helps from someone in our university to convert it to a rpm. The
installation was smooth -- "100%" ... "installed". Although "rpm -qa
smartlist" gives "smartlist-3.15-21" but I cannot find where it is
installed.
I suppose it is the binaries (everything in ~smartlist/.bin) got
installed. Could you give more hints as how to piece things together
with rpm install?
Thanks,
Zhiliang

Thank you for all the replies. Unfortunately this RHEL5 64-bit Dell
machine is what I have to live with (moving everything out -- including
many databases/applications -- from the old machine to the new one).
Has anyone ever complied it on a RHEL5 64-bit system?

And I've been happily using it with Sendmail on a 64bit
UltraSPARD machine for years.
I have struggled for some time to install Smartlist on a newer machine
(RH linux) but fails. The same install process works on older machines).
The diagnoses seem to point to the shell (sh -> bash) problems/versions.
Now we realize this new machine is 64 bit -- Is there a 64-bit Smartlist
source codes available, or the current code is already 64-bit compatible?
Thanks,
Zhiliang
I try to make the Smartlist to work with qmail.
qmail is working fine.
Upon sending a mail to a Smartlist list, nothing on the list side is
seen, and the /var/log/maillog shows:
Aug 11 15:47:39 db3 qmail: 1250023659.091760 new msg 25821488

although I had my list permissons as:
drwxrwxr-x 11 slist slist 4.0K Jul 31 13:30 slist
drwxr-sr-x 8 slist slist 4.0K Aug 5 19:25 slist/mylist
-rw-rw-rw- 1 slist slist 0 Aug 5 19:25 slist/mylist/log
What could be wrong?
Zhiliang
I am setting up Smartlist on a new RedHat GNU/Linux 2.6.18 machine with
Sendmail. The configurations are like:
1. /etc/aliases:
newlist: "|flist newlist"
newlist-request: "|flist newlist-request"
2. /etc/smrsh/flist -> /usr/local/slist/.bin/flist
3. /var/mail/.etc -> /usr/local/slist/.etc
When tested mail to "newlist", it's not sent to the list but appended to
/var/spool/mail/mail (nothing written to /usr/local/slist/newlist/log ,
nor any mail deposited to /usr/local/slist/newlist/archive/latest/)
The /var/log/maillog says mail accepted for delivery, then next line it
says "timeout waiting for input from local during Draining Input"
Any suggestion what could be the problem and where should I check further?
Thanks,
Zhiliang
