Hello:
We find that when a message is submitted to our list, and comes as html&text, we are not
able to insert the 'Approved...' line at the very beginning of the message, and therefore
are unable to approve it.
Has anyone run into this? Is there a solution or a workaround of some sort?
Thanks,
Mitch

Hello:
Should I ban attachments from being submitted to my list? Or does Smartlist handle them
in a reasonable fashion?
Thanks,
Mitch

Hi.
I am one of those people who have control panel, with limited access to
support.
I am still learning a great deal, but there is a feature where you go to
your mail administration program, click on the list name, click on
administer mailing list. Then you click on the type of list you want it to
be. Your choices are subscriber only, newsletter, or moderated.
I haven't figured out how to work the moderated one yet, but the subscriber
only and newsletter work perfectly (at least for me). I use the newsletter
format in the manner in which you are trying to use yours. There are only
those people in the accept list which I want to be able to post to the list.
Once you make the change to newsletter, you need to test it to be sure it
works before you put your subscribers addresses in it.
Now, if only I could figure out these other things about how to make
moderated work!

I need to know how to set my list so that no one but those I choose can
send messages to my list.
I want people to be able to subscribe or unsubscribe themselves, but not be
able to post to all list members themselves. I use this particular list as
a mailing list for information to my subscribers. Pleas make it simple
instructions as I am just starting to use Smartlist. I don't know what
files to change or where to make the changes.
The way it is now is that anyone on the accept list can send to the list
members. When they subscribe it adds to the accept file and the dist file.
I need for it to add only to the dist file if that's the one that holds the
mailing list in it.
Charlie said: ../.bin/delink dist but I don't know what to do with it???
I'm a dummy for now at least!

Actually, Charlie interpreted the original question correctly. It would be
a bit much to notify subscribers when there was no digest. Once I got the
digest-timing issue settled, I was going to recommend to the subscribers
that they check the archives if they were concerned they had missed
something, much as David had suggested.
BTW, the reason that I was trying to set up a regular digest-delivery is
that after managing Listserv lists for years, I was hoping to carry over a
digest feature that I liked. On Listserv the digests are generated when
they trigger the size limit, but there is also a daily default
digest-clearing time as well. It might result in a small digest, but no
one seems to mind.

There is a script available called "rc.dedup.list" to sort the dist-list and to remove duplicate e-mail addresses. Following the information I have, this script must be saved in the same directory as where the dist-list is stored.
My question is: what must I do to activate this script? I have added the line "RC_LOCAL_SUBMIT_00 =rc.dedup.list" at the end of the file "rc.custom", but it is not working. I am not familar with calling scripts, so please advise.
I need to know what to do to de link the hard link from dist file to the
accept file. I wish to have subscribers put in the dist file, and not the
access file. I wish to have the access file for only those I want to be
able to post to the list.
Thanks Jim Glaze
Or how can I do the same as this list and approve postings!!
like this!

I need to know what to do to de link the hard link from dist file to the

access file. I wish to have the access file for only those I want to be
able to post to the list.

I just read this on another list and was wondering if it is true:
>I spoke too soon about smartlist - it lets anyone post to it regardless of
>if they are a subscriber or not and regardless of what the 'access' is set.
>There is another hole that a person can send messages to a smartlist list by
>adding -dist to the end of a listname (Ie: testlist-dist(a)lists.mzaus.com) so
>I decided not to use SmartList.
... is that the case? I need a lightweight list program
but would like to have only people who are subscribed
to the list be able to post.
TIA,

I have a list that often will go a day or so without any posts, which
unhinges the next 2pm digest delivery. I have cronlist running daily, but
have not figured out how to work .digest.force into the daily schedule.
I've created it manually a few times and found that this helps the digest
delivery. But how do I automatically create this file on a daily basis?
Is it something that can be added to the cronlist or flush_digest scripts?
Or should it be a separate cron job? How do I do this?
TIA
