Liebe Studierende,

gemäß der am Wochenende veröffentlichten CoronaSchutzverordnung von NRW werden die aktuellen Regeln zunächst bis zum 21. Februar und dann vermutlich bis zum 7. März in mehr oder weniger unveränderter Form fortgeschrieben. Deshalb haben wir uns mit den Prüfungsausschussvorsitzenden auf die folgenden Regelungen verständigt:

Es dürfen bis zum 7. März keine Lehrveranstaltungen und Prüfungen in Präsenz stattfinden. Das betrifft sowohl mündliche als auch schriftliche Prüfungen. Ausnahmen gelten für die Medizin und bereits genehmigte Laborpraktika. Weitere Ausnahmen kann es nur in durch die Abt. 1.1 genehmigten Sonderfällen geben (siehe Punkt 2.).

Für die bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt stattfindenden Prüfungen bestehen folgende Möglichkeiten.

1. 1. Klausuren können durch alternative Prüfungsformate ersetzt werden. Generell genehmigte Ersatzformate sind: mündliche Prüfungen via Zoom von Zuhause aus oder Fernprüfungen, bei denen Sie nicht beobachtet werden. Andere Ersatzformate, wie z.B. die Anerkennung unbenoteter Modulbausteine in Form von Hausübungen oder Bonuspunkten als Ersatz für die Prüfung, können von den Prüfungsausschüssen genehmigt werden.

2. 2. Klausuren können nach dem aktuell gültigen Generalbeschluss der Prüfungsausschussvorsitzenden durch Fernprüfungen von Zuhause mit Beobachtung via Zoom ersetzt werden. Die Teilnahme daran ist nur mit Ihrer expliziten Zustimmung möglich. Sind Sie mit der Teilnahme an einer beobachteten Fernprüfung nicht einverstanden, soll Ihnen eine der folgenden Möglichkeiten angeboten werden:

- Es kann ein alternatives Prüfungsformat, wie z. B. eine mündliche Prüfung, angeboten werden.

- Die Prüferin oder der Prüfer kann Sie auf den zweiten Prüfungstermin verweisen, wenn dieser noch in dieser Prüfungsperiode bis Ende April liegt. Bitte beachten Sie dabei, dass wir zurzeit noch keine verlässlichen Aussagen bezüglich der Planungssicherheit dieser Präsenztermine treffen können.

- Wenn es sich um den einzigen Prüfungstermin in dieser Prüfungsperiode handelt, kann durch die Abteilung 1.1 eine Ausnahmegenehmigung erteilt werden, sodass Sie dann die gleiche Klausur zeitgleich in einem Hörsaal der RWTH schreiben können. Damit ist kein weiterer Prüfungstermin notwendig.

Die Entscheidung, welche Option angeboten werden soll, liegt bei den Lehrenden.

3. 3. Klausuren können verschoben werden. Die neuen Termine werden in der Vorlesungszeit des Sommersemesters liegen und müssen mit den Klausurplanenden der Fakultät abgestimmt werden. Präsenzprüfungen im ZuseLab können erst ab Mai wieder neu angesetzt werden.

Nach einer weiteren Aktualisierung der CoronaSchutzverordnung informieren wir Sie wieder. Achten Sie bitte auf Informationen der Prüfenden, da sich auch noch kurzfristig Änderungen ergeben können, z.B. bei der Anfangszeit. Wir appellieren eindringlich an Sie, Fernprüfungsformate zu nutzen, da derzeit niemand prognostizieren kann, ob aufgrund der Mutationen z.B. im April wieder Präsenz möglich ist.

Wir werden Nachreichfristen für den Masterzugang entsprechend verlängern, so dass Ihnen durch eine Verschiebung in dieser Hinsicht keine Nachteile entstehen.

Uns ist bewusst, dass die Information kurzfristig kommt. Leider kommen die behördlichen Vorgaben, die wir beachten müssen, mit der gleichen Kurzfristigkeit. Planungssicherheit können Sie am ehesten mit der Teilnahme an Fernprüfungen schaffen.

Dear Students,

In accordance with the NRW Coronaschutzverordnung (Coronavirus Protection Ordinance) published on the weekend, the rules and regulations currently effective will initially be extended until February 21 and then, presumably, continue to be effective in more or less the same form until March 7. For this reason, we have agreed on the following regulations with the examination board chairpersons:

No courses or exams will be held in person until March 7. This applies to both oral and written exams. Exceptions apply in the field of medicine and for lab courses that have already been authorized. Further exceptions can only be made in special cases that are to be approved by Div. 1.1 (see Point 2.).

The following options are available for exams scheduled up to March 7.

1.     1. Exams can be offered in alternative assessment formats. Generally approved alternative formats are: oral exams via Zoom from home or remote exams where candidates are not observed. Other alternative formats may be approved by the examination boards, e.g. ungraded module components may be recognized in the form of homework or bonus points.

2.     2. According to the currently valid general decision of the examination board chairpersons, exams can be held online as proctored remote exams (take-home exams) via Zoom. Students must give their consent to taking the exam in this format before sitting the exam. If you do not agree to participate in a proctored remote exam, you should be offered one of the following options:

-      You may be offered an alternative format, such as an oral exam.

-     The examiner may offer you the opportunity to take the exam on the second exam date if this has been scheduled in the current exam period that runs until the end of April. Please note that we are currently unable to make a firm statement on whether these in-person exams can actually be held.

-     If there is only one date scheduled for the exam in the current exam period, an exemption may be granted by Division 1.1, so that students may take the same exam as the remote exam and at the same time in a lecture hall of RWTH. This means that no further exam date is necessary.

It is up to the instructors to decide which option to offer.

3. 3. Exams may be postponed. The new exam dates will be scheduled for the summer semester lecture period and must be agreed in close coordination with the faculty's exam schedulers. Rescheduled in-person exams in ZuseLab may be held in May at the earliest.

We will provide you with further information once the next amendment to the Coronavirus Protection Ordinance has been published. Please look out for upcoming information from the examiners, as changes may be made at short notice, e.g. regarding the starting time of exams. We would strongly urge you to make use of remote exam formats, as due to the COVID-19 mutations, it is currently impossible to predict whether in-person formats will be possible again in April, for example.

We will extend the late deadlines for applications for Master's degree programs accordingly, so that you will not be disadvantaged by the postponement of exams.

We are aware that this announcement has been made at very short notice. Unfortunately, we are only informed of the official requirements at very short notice too. The best way to keep your planning on track is to take the remote exams.
