Liebe Studierende,

aufgrund der leider weiterhin nicht absehbaren Entwicklungen der Corona-Pandemie und ihrer Auswirkung auf die Prüfungsphase hat die Hochschule in den letzten Wochen Optionen einer alternativen und damit termingerechten Durchführung von Klausuren sowie deren Umsetzung geprüft.

Weiterhin gilt: Mindestens bis zum 14. Februar finden keine Prüfungen in Präsenz statt. Ausnahmen gibt es in der Medizin und für Laborpraktika.

Aber: Klausuren können als Fernprüfungen durchgeführt werden. Die Entscheidung obliegt allein den jeweils für die Klausur verantwortlichen Lehrenden und ist Teil ihrer gesetzlich geschützten Freiheit in Forschung und Lehre.

Bitte beachten Sie daher die kurzfristigen Informationen, ob und in welcher Form Ihre angemeldeten Prüfungen als Fernprüfung umgesetzt werden!

Im Falle einer Fernprüfung gilt für Sie:

● Prüfungen können als Fernprüfung (Take-Home-Exam) mit oder ohne eine Zoom-Beaufsichtigung ortsunabhängig abgelegt werden.

● Die Teilnahme an beaufsichtigten Fernprüfungen ist freiwillig - alternativ kann z.B. ein Wiederholungstermin im Prüfungszeitraum in Anspruch genommen werden. Falls Sie anstelle der Fernprüfung eine Prüfung in Präsenz wünschen, so wenden Sie sich bitte an den entsprechenden Lehrstuhl.

● Sie nehmen während der beaufsichtigten Prüfung an einem Zoom-Meeting teil und werden über eine von Ihnen gestellte Kamera (z.B. im Smartphone) bei der Bearbeitung der Prüfung durch Mitarbeiter*innen des prüfenden Lehrstuhls beaufsichtigt. Die Prüfung wird nicht aufgezeichnet.

● Es gilt die Freiversuchsregelung. Ausnahme: Sie treten nicht zur Prüfung an und haben sich nicht mindestens 24 Stunden vor Prüfungsbeginn abgemeldet. Darüber hinaus kann die Freiversuchsregelung nicht in Anspruch genommen werden, wenn ein Täuschungsversuch vorliegt.

● Sie müssen vor der Prüfung erklären, dass Sie sich für eine überwachte Fernprüfung entschieden haben. Eine Abfrage erfolgt je Prüfung durch den jeweiligen Lehrstuhl z.B. über RWTHmoodle. Sie müssen eine eidesstattliche Versicherung abgeben, dass Sie nicht getäuscht haben. Täuschungsversuche werden strafrechtlich verfolgt.

● Sie werden dringend gebeten, bei dieser Abfrage eine Telefonnummer anzugeben, unter der Sie während der Prüfung erreicht werden können. Dies dient einzig Ihrem Schutz, so dass Sie beispielsweise kontaktiert werden können, sollte es zu technischen Problemen kommen, die Sie selbst während der Prüfung nicht wahrnehmen. Bitte machen Sie von dieser Option daher unbedingt Gebrauch!

● Über den genauen Ablauf der Prüfungen und die geltenden Rahmenbedingungen werden Sie von den Prüfenden informiert.

vertraut, bevor Sie die Prüfung antreten, und beachten Sie dabei auch eventuell abweichende Bestimmungen der jeweiligen Lehrstühle.

Nicht in allen Fällen wird eine Fernprüfung angeboten werden können. Sollte pandemiebedingt auch keine Präsenzprüfung zum Klausurzeitpunkt möglich sein, so werden die Klausurtermine auf einen späteren Zeitpunkt verlegt.

Dear Students,

As the coronavirus pandemic’s trajectory and its impact on the examination period remain extremely difficult to predict, over the last weeks, the University has investigated alternative exam formats and their implementation to ensure that exams can be held in a timely manner.

The regulation that no in-person exams may be held at RWTH up to and including February 14 still applies, with exceptions in the field of medicine and for lab courses.

However, instructors have the option of offering exams as online exams. As part of the instructors’ constitutionally protected freedom in research and teaching, the decision in this regard is entirely up to them.

Please watch for upcoming announcements as to whether, and in what form, the exams you have registered for will be offered!

If you decide to take an online exam, the following rules and regulations apply to you:

● Exams can be taken online (as so-called take-home exams) with or without Zoom proctoring, entirely independent of students’ actual location.

● Participation in online proctored exams is voluntary – students can also choose to take the exam later instead, for example, in-person in the resit exam period. If you wish to take an in-person exam instead of an online exam, please contact the department responsible.

● In an online proctored exam, you will participate in a Zoom meeting, where you will be monitored by your instructors or their staff via your (smartphone) camera or webcam. The exam session will not be recorded.

● The free attempt regulation applies. Exception: It does not apply if you do not participate in the exam and have not withdrawn from it at least 24 hours before the exam date. Also, the free attempt rule does not apply to students who attempt to cheat.

● Before you take the exam, you must have officially declared that you have chosen to take it as an online proctored exam. For each exam, the respective departments will ask students how they have decided to proceed, e.g., via RWTHmoodle. Students are also required to submit an affidavit stating that they have not cheated during the exam. Cheating attempts will be prosecuted.

● Students are urgently asked to provide a phone number where they can be reached during the exam. This is solely for your benefit, so that you can be contacted, for example, in case of technical problems which you might not be aware of during the exam. Therefore, please be sure to make use of this option!

● The examiners will inform you in advance about the exact procedure of the exams and the conditions under which they are to be held.

Please pay particular attention to any regulations or procedures put in place by the responsible chair or department that may deviate from those outlined here.

It will not be possible to offer online proctored exams in all cases. If, due to the pandemic, in-person exams cannot be held on the scheduled dates, the exams will be postponed to a later date.
