** SINCERE APOLOGIES IF YOU RECEIVE MULTIPLE COPIES OF THIS CfC **
*******************************************************************
Call for contributions
18th IFIP World Computer Congress
The premier international forum on
Sciences and Technologies of Information and Communication
22-27 August 2004
Toulouse, France
http://www.wcc2004.org
*******************************************************************
The technological evolution of the sciences and technologies of
information and communication (STIC) during the last decades is far from
reaching completion. The challenges posed to the STIC community for
pursuing the evolution share a dramatic jump in complexity, be it for
the fall of elementary hardware dimensions towards nanometric scales,
for producing software of warranted quality, or for providing the
informational infrastructure with protections and with human-machine
interaction modes that enable the emerging paradigm of Ambient
Intelligence to support the Knowledge Society.
The 18th IFIP World Computer Congress will cover the above-mentioned
challenges via a rich program featuring nine co-located established
conferences, topical days or sessions, workshops, tutorials, a student
forum, an exhibition.
The topics of the co-located conferences range from theoretical
informatics to the relationship between informatics and society, through
hardware and software technologies and non-functional aspects relating
to our dependency on networked information systems:
- Theoretical Computer Science - TCS
- Information Security - SEC
- Smartcard Research and Advanced Applications - CARDIS
- Distributed and Parallel Embedded Systems - DIPES
- Artificial Intelligence Applications and Innovations - AIAI
- Human Error, Safety and System Development - HESSD
- Virtual Enterprises - PRO-VE
- e-Commerce, e-Business and e-Government - I3E
- History of Computing in Education - HCE
The topical days or sessions will offer synthetic and prospective views
on topics of dramatic interest for the emergence of the Knowledge Society.
Deadlines for submission:
- Topical sessions/days, Workshops: end October 2003
- Conference papers (see the website for the various conferences),
Tutorials: January 2004
Please visit the conference web site for detailed submission
instructions and updated information on the Congress
(http://www.wcc2004.org).

Dear Augusto:
The Semantic Web is within the scope of WG 6.4. For example, WWW is one of
the premier conferences for the Semantic Web, and this conference is a WG

Dear TC6 members,
In the last IFIP GA TC12 (Articial Intelligence) proposed new aims and
scope
for its WGs. I would like to be sure that you have no problem with this
proposal before I approve it from TC6 side. My main question is with WG
12.4
(Semantic Web). Is there an overlap with WG 6.4?
Please send me your comments until the end of September. I thank that you
send your comments with cc to the TC6 list.
Best regards
Augusto Casaca

Following the discussion at the recent Technical Assembly, I am
sending you copies of the two documents I presented at the
meeting (as two Word 2000 attachments). One gives amplified
Aims and Scope for TC12. The other gives the Aims and Scope for
the TC's working groups in the revised structure.
Please let me know by October 30th at the latest if you would like
any of the wording of these documents changed. Please copy any
reply to Basie von Solms (basie(a)rkw.rau.ac.za).

Dear all,
it is planned (for the moment being without IFIP TC6 but we might add
TC6 of course) to organise a workshop on "Challenges in Information
Infrastructures for Crisis Management" (Feb. 8 - 11 in Schloss Dagstuhl,
Germany). See the enclosure for an outline of its contents. It is
obvious that the topic has to do with process management, geographical
information systems, data mining, security,... but also with communication
systems such as sensor networks, wireless networks, ad hoc networks,
network management etc. (WG 6.5, 6.7 and 6.9 might be particularly
involved).
My question: Do you know experts who might be interested (including
yourself, of course)? Could you provide names (incl. email addresses)
who should be invited to attend? Do you think that an active involvement
of TC6 should be seeked?
Best wishes
Otto
Dear TC6 members,
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend next TC6
meeting in Oman.
Best regards
