Dear All,
Please find attached the Call for papers for the 2nd International Symposium on Wireless Communication Systems (ISWCS) 2005 (http://www.iswcs.org/iswcs2005) to be held in Siena, Italy, from 5 - 7 September 2005. The symposium is technically sponsored by IEEE Communication Society and is endorsed by the technical committee on Personal Communications. Proceedings of the conference will be available on the IEEEXplore after the event.
Important date:
NEW DEADLINE: 15 May 2005 (extended abstract) via EDAS due.
We look forward to receiving your papers.
Many thanks
Best regards,
Boon
General co-chair
Dear colleagues,
I trust that you all made it safely home and I would like to say I enjoyed
very much seeing all of you again in Toronto.
Attached is the slide presentation I gave including the links I was unable
to access due to lack of Internet connectivity in the meeting room. As I
mentioned during the meeting, I would like to suggest that it would be
useful to post presentations of those who are willing, on the TC-6 web site
as it would provide ready access to a global view on ICT development.
Personally I would be interested in having access to presentations given in
previous as well as such future presentations.
Best regards,
Lorne Mason
Dear all,
The email below was already circulated in December 2004 on the TC6 list.
As you can see, Alfred Hofmann from Springer LNCS
justifies the 30% difference between IFIP-LNCS
and "standard" LNCS as a way to compensate the
royalties paid to IFIP.
This is highly questionable, as under article 31e of the "AGREEMENT BETWEEN
IFIP AND SPRINGER SCIENCE+BUSINESS MEDIA" I read:
"Royalties to IFIP for volumes published in IFIP
LNCS will be paid as a one-time advance
publication fee upon publication of the
respective volume, and will be 10% of the
estimated total sales of the volume, excluding
bulk sales."
Best regards,
Guy

Summer School on Wireless Sensor Networks and Smart Objects
===========================================================
Aug 29 - Sept 3, 2005, Schloss Dagstuhl, Germany
www.vs.inf.ethz.ch/events/dag2005/
+ + +
Wireless sensor networks and smart objects are two instances of
networked embedded sensing systems, which can perceive and control
many aspects of the real world, and which may interact with humans.
These technologies are currently receiving significant attention by
researchers, potential users, and by people interested in the
implications of the induced paradigm shift in the way we use
computers. The goal of this summer school is to
- survey the most relevant subfields
- present perspectives and underlying technologies
- identify pertinent issues and important research themes
- establish contacts among people working in the field
The intended audience are post-graduate students, PhD students, and
young researchers from universities and industrial laboratories
around the world. We expect about 60 participants.
PROGRAM
- Lectures: Usually, each day will feature lectures and discussions
around a broad theme. Three to four lectures will be presented per
day (morning and late afternoon). Lecturers include Jan Beutel,
Holger Karl, Koen Langendoen, Marc Langheinrich, Pedro J. Marron,
Friedemann Mattern, Kay Roemer, and Albrecht Schmidt.
- TinyOS Hands-On Tutorial: Participants can learn to program sensor
nodes using TinyOS. This tutorial will be given by Joe Polastre and
Rob Szewczyk, two experienced TinyOS developers and trainers.
- Participants Workshop: Some time will be reserved for a workshop
where participants can present their own work and involvement in
the field.
- Application Competition: Participants can submit their ideas about
application scenarios involving sensor networks and smart objects.
Marcelo Pias will take care of the competition.
- Excursion: One day is scheduled for an excursion and other social
activities which should help to form a community among the young
researchers.
VENUE
The summer school will take place in the relaxed and inspiring
atmosphere of Schloss Dagstuhl (Dagstuhl manor house), Germany, close
to the border of Luxembourg and France. Schloss Dagstuhl was built in
1760 and is used for seminars and conferences since 1990. Besides
providing accommodation, a comprehensive computer science research
library, and computer facilities, it offers a unique setting for
inspiring discussions, informal exchange of ideas, and socializing.
The rural surroundings provide good opportunities for relaxed walks.
REGISTRATION
Participation is open to all qualified applicants, but the number of
participants is limited to a maximum of 60. If we receive more
applications, we will select participants based on their work area
and background, geographic distribution, and date of registration.
The registration fee of EUR 650 includes accommodation at Schloss
Dagstuhl and all meals. We can support about 15 European students
with grants of EUR 400 each.
Online application is available at www.vs.inf.ethz.ch/events/dag2005.

FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS
Fifth International Conference on Integrated Formal Methods (IFM)
November 29 - December 2, 2005
Eindhoven, The Netherlands
http://www.win.tue.nl/ifm/
SCOPE
Applying formal methods may involve the modeling of different aspects of a
system that are expressed through different paradigms. This motivates us to
research the combination of different viewpoints upon a system, either by the
creation of hybrid notations, by extending existing notations, by translating
between notations, or by incorporating a wider perspective by innovative use of
an existing notation.
The integration of formal methods has already yielded noteworthy benefits for
systems modeling and software development. Whichever approach is taken,
significant issues arise in areas such as semantic integration, the tractability
of our notations, the integration of tool support, the integration of proof
systems, consistency and completeness. Issues arise equally in our
conceptualization of systems at different levels of abstraction and the
development of these conceptualizations through the process of refinement.
The scope of IFM2005 includes all aspects of integration of different formal
notations, paradigms and tools, and also the formal strengthening of informal
notations (e.g., UML).
The conference also seeks and welcomes contributions in related areas such as:
hybrid systems, the embedding of one formalism within another, and the
integration of formal methods with informal or semi-formal diagrammatic
notations and structuring techniques.
SUBMISSIONS
Submissions should be original work, not published or submitted elsewhere.
Submissions may be up to 20 pages in length and are preferably prepared with
LaTeX. Springer Verlag will publish the conference proceedings in the series
'Lecture Notes in Computer Science', hence submissions must be prepared
according to the LNCS author instructions (see
http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html). The first page of the
paper should contain an abstract of the paper, a list of keywords, the
names, affiliations and emails of the authors. The contact authors
should further provide their fax numbers as well as their phone
numbers. The format for submitted papers and final versions is PDF or
PostScript. For final versions, sources will have to be provided as
well (including an RTF file for non-LaTeX papers).
A link to the submission web site will be provided on the conference web site
(http://www.win.tue.nl/ifm/).
