Dear Viet Yen, all,
we have tried to open the latest COMPASS virtual machine with VMWare player (we have version 6 installed). When trying to import from .ova format, either nothing happens, or the following window pops up:
and then, after cliking 'retry':
Can you give some advice about how to run the virtual machine? Do we need to install any additional packages (ovf tool)? Did you succeed in unpacking it on your side?
Best regards,
Marco

Hello Marco,
I created and ran the images with VirtualBox (which is a free download).
Specification-wise, they should work on VMWare, but I haven't tested that. I'll look into it.

Ok, thanks for looking into this.
I think it would be nice if the VM we distribute is compatible with VMWare as well, because we have a user base using it (e.g., Regis). Besides, the COMPASS website speaks about a VMWare image.

Dear Marco,
Harold and I have been trying to reproduce the issue with VMWare Player in Windows (we don't have a Linux machine at hand here). After getting the OVF spec. conformance check, and then clicking retry to relax them, it works for us.
Let us first check whether your download is correct: could you compute a md5sum of the ova?
It should be b33d7cb5c3b524469d7b94565c2ba2b1

Hi Viet Yen,
the md5sum is correct.
In fact, I tried on my laptopunder Windows, and it worked for me as well.
Under Linux, in my case it seems that VMWare crashes when I try to import the VM. In Gianni's case, you have seen the screenshots.
I have the same version (6.0.0, same build) on both Windows and Linux.

Hello Marco,
OK. Well since it should also work on Linux, I'll have to investigate whether I can make a better OVA image. I'll try to acquire a Linux machine here soon so I can experiment with it.
In the mean time, if Gianni finds other indications that might help solve the problem, please feel free to notify me on this.

Hello Viet Yen,
OK.
In the meanwhile, I have copied the imported virtual machine from Windows to Linux, and I am able to run it, now.
