Dear Friends, Arclight films is embarking on its 2nd year with an exciting and varied lineup of films that we are proud to be bringing to our international distributors. We look forward to continuing our relationships and forging new ones as we move into 2004. Top lining our news for this market is our highly anticipated project LORD OF WAR, written and to be directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Truman Show) and starring Nicolas Cage & Monica Bellucci. Principal photography starts July 15, 2004 with a $45M budget. CRASH is now in post production and has brought together a dynamite ensemble cast including Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser, Jason Isaacs, Thandie Newton, Ryan Phillippe... We will have footage and selected scenes to screen at our offices. MERCHANT OF VENICE. We are also proud to be presenting footage of our $US22M adaptation of William Shakespeares MERCHANT OF VENICE starring Al Pacino, Joseph Fiennes, Jeremy Irons, Lynn Collins and Zuleikha Robinson, directed by Academy Award Nominee Michael Radford (Il Postino). Jackie Chans NEW POLICE STORY, now in post production, we will have a 10 min. promo available at our offices. Arclight is handling worldwide sales excluding Asia on Jackie Chans first Chinese language film after Around the World in 80 days. The film is directed by Benny Chan and co-stars Nicholas Tse in an action packed edgier thriller ala LETHAL WEAPON. MATADOR, a thoroughly contemporary thriller starring Pierce Brosnan as a professional hitman in a story of assassinations, margaritas and certain bars in Manila you wouldnt want to venture into. The rest of the cast will be announced at AFM. Principal photography begins mid-March 2004. A DIFFERENT LOYALTY starring Sharon Stone and Rupert Everett is now completed and will be screening at AFM. FIVE MOONS SQUARE, a taut political thriller starring Donald Sutherland, Giancarlo Giannini and Stefania Rocca. Premiere screening at AFM Last minute acquisition in Berlin, BEAUTIFUL BOXER, the story of a Thai who boy believes he is a girl trapped in a boy's body. He sets out to master the most lethal and macho sport of Muay Thai (Thai kickboxing) to earn the money to achieve the goal of becoming a woman. The story is based on the true story of Thailand's famed transvestite kickboxer, Nong Toom. This touching film is funny, colorful, and is packed with breathtaking Thai kickboxing scenes. The Hollywood Reporter called the BEAUTIFUL BOXER a "crowd pleaser," the "Thai BILLY ELLIOT." The film will touch your heart and make you cheer! US Premiere at AFM. >From our Darclight slate; SILVERHAWK, the female comic book, with the star of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Michelle Yeoh will premiere at AFM. THE HILLSIDE STRANGLER, the new film from the creators of Bundy and Ed Gein. Starring C.Thomas Howell, the film is in post-production and we will have a trailer at AFM.
